this is an ask blog where you can ask questions about/to the Sides +Nico from my au “Escape the Mind Palace”

you can read the initial plot about it here, but this blog takes place after the initial story, where most of the other sides also take the front

Virgil, how’s it been for you? This whole thing that is?

Virgil: It’s been… a lot.

Virgil: Like, from Thomas showing up in the Mind Palace, to realizing what the hell actually happened, to actually being a person for the first time ever, to being able to talk to Nico as myself-

Virgil: *inhale* Yeeeeah, it’s been kind of a busy few weeks for me.

Virgil: Look, I don’t like change, and this has been a lot of change in not a lot of time. And that part sucks. It sucks really bad.

Virgil: But… like Logan said, I’m learning to get used to it. And besides, it’s not all bad, I guess.

*His eyeshadow turns purple slightly.*

Virgil: Nico… being around… helps… a lot…

Nico: *smiles softly* I’m happy to, Vee.

*Virgil’s eyeshadow went full purple sparkles before he pulls his hoodie over his face.*

Virgil: *muttering* Man you can’t be allowed saying stuff like that-

Thomas: …Roman and Nico got me infodumping about flower language. One side turned indigo and the other side turned red.

Thomas: …I really like flowers. 👉👈

Sooo, Thomas, what's with the color changing makeup?

Thomas: Oh yeah, that’s just something that happens when I’m “acting” like one of the Sides.

*It shifts to indigo.*

Thomas: Yellow when I’m lying, Purple when I’m freaking out, Blue when I’m just feeling a lot, Red when I’m passionate about something and Indigo when…

*He notices the color change.*

Thomas: …Yeah.

*It shift back to pink.*

Thomas: I haven’t gotten green yet. Thank god. But I have gotten two different colors a few times.

Thomas: It’s… weird.

patton! janus! how go the warm drinks?

Patton: They’re going great! I got a hot cocoa, and Janus-

Janus: Janus got an empty cup of ice.

Patton: Now c’mon Janus, don’t tease them.

Janus: Heh. Oh alright. Black tea. A personal favorite of mine, and much less sweeter than a hot chocolate with 20 million marshmallows stuffed in it?

Patton: Are you sure? ‘Cause the amount of sugar i saw you put in there-

Janus: You saw nothing, actually.

Im very interested in how this whole switching in and out thing, is like DID mixed with ghosts?

Logan: …Would you like to take this one?

Nico: Yes please thank you.

Nico: The short answer is. Basically what you said, plurality mixed with ghost rules.

Nico: Long answer is that it looks to be a bit more complicated than that. I don’t think it’s DID specifically. Maybe some form of OSDD, I’m not entirely sure. I am by no means a doctor.

Nico: When I met Remus for the first time, I thought that they were just a system . I thought “sides” was just their stand-in word for “alter” and that day was just their egg cracking or something.

Nico: And then the mic thing happened when the others came back and that was when I started getting confused. And then the whole “being able to interact with real stuff but only sometimes” really threw me for a loop.

Nico: I got permission to try and figure out how all this works the best I can. The system terms are more to make things easier to explain, but nothings gonna fit perfectly. Plus there’s the whole “Pieces of Thomas’ Personality” thing to take into account because that’s still a thing too.

Nico: I’m mostly doing this for to help them get more answers and references points to make the “situation” easier to ease into.

Nico: …And also I think this is really cool and I’m curious about what the hells going on.

Nico: Was that okay?

Logan: Yes, I think you explained the general idea well enough.

Virgil: …

Thomas: Well. Um.

Thomas: …

Thomas: He’s dead- wait, no-

*his eye makeup shifts again, this time to purple.*

Thomas: *head in hands, muttering* That is the worst thing i could’ve said why did i do that oh my god-

So, Virgil is here in the same capacity he is in videos, I am guessing? Can Nico perceive him? - 🐝

Virgil: *shrugs and nods* I mean, yeah pretty much.

Nico: Yesn’t? I can’t see him with my eyes, but I can hear him through the radio like i mentioned before, if we want to count that as “perception”.

Nico: I’m guessing if i used a camera or something, i could probably see him that way? But, I don’t know, that just feels weird.

Thomas: Huh- Oh! Um, I’m fine! M-mostly. I’m not lost!

Thomas: And I’m looking for… uuuuh… a friend? I guess???

*the jester paint around his eyes turns yellow*

Thomas: Okay, look in my defense i don’t really know what to call him, we’ve only talked like. Three times before this.

Thomas: …I don’t really know if he’s counts as “what” or not…

Hello Logan! What's it like being in front? After Thomas has been the one outward guy for most of his/yalls' life, what was it like adjusting to you and the others being able to take his place?

Logan: It… has been a learning curve for all of us, to varying degrees. Most of us were not used to having a proper physical presence or weight, or in Thomas case, a lack thereof.

Logan: While I myself adjusted to it quickly physically, the fact that I could sense myself being was a strange and fascinating sensation.

Logan: Not to mention the fact that fronting works differently for almost all of us. For example, I can enter the front freely for the most part, but I cannot force my way out. I either wait until Thomas is able to return or one of the others must force me out.

Virgil: Which is why I’m here. I’m the emergency exit.✌️

Logan: Yes. thank you for that by the way.

Virgil: 👍

Logan: We are all still getting used to this new normal, Thomas especially. But we are getting used to it nonetheless.

Nico: It’s how i hear the others when they’re around but not actively fronting.

Logan: I still do not understand how that works.

Virgil: Hey L? I don’t think anyone does.

Nico: I originally found this out with a karaoke mic. Waving it around like i was a ghost hunter or something lmao.

Logan: Which makes even less sense-

Virgil: Just let it go, man…

Logan: I’m doing well at the moment. Right now, Nico is having me play a game on his laptop. Rhythm Doctor is the name of it, correct?

Nico: Yup! I’m trying to get Logan into rhythm games. I was gonna start with Rhythm Heaven, but I figured he might enjoy Rhythm Doctor more.

Logan: I did find the setting and concept interesting.
