He tensed at the sentence. Not human. Then, what? Witch? No. She couldn’t be. That would make no sense.
Instead of commenting, though, he sighed, leaning back to the bench, stretching himself out once more. “I think that’s the side effect of being powerful, isn’t it? People don’t see you. Instead they see your power.”
He could relate to people not seeing him—just who he was on the surface, but…that was an issue for another day. “I see. I wonder how she’d hide that thing…in the air, no less! How about the other two? The demon and the shape shifter, then?”
"That makes... a lot of sense." She mumbled, thinking deeply to herself, but not saying anything more. She still didn't want to reveal everything about herself, about her past and her feelings. Sure, Shun already knew a lot more than most people do and would, but there's still a lot to Dianthe that she keeps to herself.
"She hides in the clouds." Dianthe said, turning to him with a disarming smile. "The demon is quite a people person... really enjoys mingling with humans... but mostly because he sort of has to. His job is to make contracts with humans. The shapeshifter is extremely shy though. He likes being by himself in the forests where he can change into any animal he wants to be."
"Well, isn’t that just normal human nature?" Closed up. Afraid to be taken advantage of. Afraid of being weak. He could only relate to some of this, but…he could relate. This was something that was always on his mind.
The mask he had on. The person he needed to be. The people he needed to be strong for. Suddenly, it had become more than one person he needed to protect, even unconsciously.
"Didn’t ask for it, did you? I guess you’re a lot more sympathetic of a character than I am." He crossed his arms in front of his chest, exhaling. Everything had happened because he had gotten himself into this mess. He deserved exactly what hand he had been dealt. No use crying over spilled milk. "Ahh!" Stretching, he shook his head vigorously. "So depressed. Let’s talk about something else. Tell me more about the airship."
"Human nature... but... I'm not even human, in a way." She said, as if she had just realized it right now. Dianthe never opened up to the people back at the temple, even if they are genuinely kind to her, even if they offered to listen to her problems.
So what made it so easy opening up to a stranger? Dianthe wondered. She didn't know much about Shun, but she has a lingering sense that he isn't a normal human that he makes himself to be.
"Perhaps I am. Not a lot of people see this sympathetic side though. Everybody knows me as that cold, all-powerful priestess." She stretched her arms before settling them back to her sides. Dianthe's eyes widened slightly, but was relieved that Shun had wanted to change the subject.
"The airship?" She began, "Hmm... well I personally haven't been on it myself, but the captain is a very... energetic and spunky girl. The complete opposite of me, in more simpler terms. From what I remember in a conversation with her, the airship is fueled by steam."
Frowning, he replied, “Well, they’re weird. Weird people are weird by definition!” Despite the frown, though, he broke out into a smile, adjusting his glasses once more. “Isn’t that just how it happens? You get thrown into a crowd with these people one day and suddenly you…you care. You don’t want to. But you start caring.”
Her smirked, shaking his head. “No, no. It’s not really silly.” Fixing his hair, Shun turned to look at her. “There’s plenty of things that can’t be explained by science, no matter how much I’d like the world to be able to be so defined and straight forward.” Somehow, being around her opened him up a little—perhaps it was the knowledge that he couldn’t hide anything from her. It caused him anxiety, yet at the same time… “But the world isn’t. My world…isn’t. So it’s okay. I believe you.”
"You've got a point there." She said, giving him a smile back. "I've always been really closed up, afraid that people would take advantage of me. I hated the idea of being weak in front of others." Dianthe didn't know why she was telling all of this to someone that she had just met, but there was a sense of comfort that she couldn't quite explain. "
"Wouldn't it be great if the world was that simple? Everything that we didn't understand could be explained by science?" She mumbled. "I mean, till this day, no one knows how I got my powers, and neither do I. I was simply... born with it." Dianthe stared at the ground as she spoke. "I guess that makes the two of us, huh? Just two people in our own worlds, places that we, ourselves, don't fully comprehend."
"Ah, well, I think you wouldn’t quite want to meet…" he paused. Could he even call them his? Theoretically, he only had his sister. That was it. She was an anomaly. Who she brought with her was annoying. Her cousin had been his friend—but only through association. It was a strange relationship. Relationships. “…them.”
Lowering his head, he managed a smile. “Do those really exist? Demons and shapeshifters, and airships?” She sounded like she was making those things up, but…he had seen weirder things. He wasn’t one to question what she had seen before.
"Well, if it makes you feel better, the weird people I know aren't that easy to get along with either. They're just...a jumbled mess of personalities. I'm not even sure when I started being friends with them." Dianthe liked them though, even if she has never said that out loud. They made her feel less lonely, in a way.
"I must sound silly, huh?" She laughed, but it was short. "Believe it or not, those things are real. I, too, didn't believe it in the first place, but when I came to know them, I realized that despite my own wisdom, I actually don't know everything in this world."
"I want you to count your blessings, because everyone here is strange." He was mumbling, but he shook his head. The people he knew were weird, but they were the good sort of weird, and if he thought about it clearly, he wouldn’t trade them for the world.
He would do anything for them. Reaching, he tilted his glasses up. Gross. Never thinking that again. Especially around her, just in case.
Letting out a hum, Shun shrugged. “I hope you find your reason to be here.” Was it because of the witches? Probably not. Hopefully not. “Anyways, weird people? How are your weird people?”
"An abundance of strange people, huh?" She let out a small huff. "Maybe that's what attracted me to here." Dianthe shrugged slightly and uncrossed her long legs, stretching them out before going back to her previous position.
"My weird people?"
"Good, I guess. If being friends with a demon, shapeshifter, and airship captain counts as good. They're all over the place, though, like me. Who knows where they are now..." At the last statement, Dianthe turned away from him and stared up at the blue sky.
Ah. She smiled. What a contrast to her previous expression. Shun tilted his head at this—objectively, he could say that she was rather beautiful, but this was just an observation.
"Just three? You’re extremely fortunate, Dianthe," he deadpanned in return, before letting out a laugh. "Well, what brings you to Japan, priestess?" Deciding that this would be a long conversation, he gestured at a bench not too far from where they were standing, before beginning to walk.
"Hah?" She spoke, her voice raising slightly. "Do you want me to meet more strange people? There's only so much I can handle, you know." Despite her words, there was a somewhat teasing tone in her voice and she freely laughed along with him.
Dianthe followed Shun over to the bench and sat down, neatly crossing her right leg over her left one. When she had heard his question, she began to tap her fingers on her chin thoughtfully, trying to piece together a good answer.
"I came here because I felt like I was needed here." She paused before continuing, "It's hard to explain... I guess you can say it's a special sixth sense that priestesses have."
i made a threads page *u*

It's also on my sidebar but anyway~~ I made it so that you can see my latest reply to your post and I can keep track of stuff more easily. So if you have a thread with me and aren't sure if I had replied yet or not, just go to this page and click on the umbrella symbol! (◠△◠✿)
She nodded. “I.. I won’t tell, I promise” She replied back. From what she can see, he seems shyer than she was. If this attracted too much attention then, it’d kill him, she thought.
The girl thought of things to do next. “Um…so what exactly are you?” She widened her eyes on what she just asked. “Ah, sorry! That was rude of me. You don’t have to answer. I can just leave and stay out of your business if you want me too.”
He breathed a sigh of relief. She seemed like a trustworthy person, but that didn't mean Riki would let his guard down so easily. He glanced up at her for a few seconds before looking down. He made sure to avoid her gaze so that she couldn't see the unreasonable amount of fear in his eyes.
When he heard her question, he froze and opened his mouth slightly before closing it. He knew that there was no point hiding his true identity now, but...
"S-shapeshifter." He mumbled simply. "I'm a shapeshifter."
