“Isn’t it a bit early for that?”
Marietta smirked and continued to sip her glass of whiskey. "I'm sure it's five o'clock somewhere, but I need it now. Care to join me?" She offered, expecting the man to decline and move on his way.

He begun to regret the sending owl almost as soon as the bird had flown from his window. Was he mad? Michael had already endured weeks of taunts, nasty sidelong glances, whispers and more about the rumours swirling about due to the mirrors. He’d even begun to avoid heading to the pub after work if only to dodge the constant questions he faced from people he barely knew. Deep down, the young man knew that the coffee he’d shared with a former housemate was completely innocent, but the rumours seemed to have taken on a life of their own. He’d been transformed from a slightly awkward if sweet Healer in Training from a disgusting, tail-chasing cad with no morals or boundaries in short order, all because of a chance encounter. Still, he wanted to clear the air with the girl, have her understand that he hadn’t intended on crossing any boundaries or upsetting anyone. While he knew that meeting up would surely set tongues wagging once more, it was something that had to be done in person, face to face.
It was only when the day arrived that Michael realized his awful, horrible mistake. The red hearts that lined the storefront windows, the cupids the hung and twirled around each corner - he’d managed to ask a girl everyone assumed he was madly enamoured with to meet him for lunch on Valentine’s day. He really was insane. Or, at least, much less intelligent than anyone ever game him credit for.
Still, as he hustled from the hospital towards the Thorn to meet Marietta, he knew he couldn’t turn back. Michael pushed the door aside as confidently as he could, the warm gust of air coming from inside the pub making him smile as he strolled towards the dark-haired girl that sat with her back to the entrance. Without announcement or ceremony, the lad plopped himself down in the seat opposite with enough gusto to give the girl a start. Upon seeing her jump slightly, Michael found himself chuckling and smiling, holding his hands out as if to calm her down. “Whoa, there. Didn’t mean to scare you,” he said easily, leaning back in his chair as the girl seemed to regain her composure. Michael found himself surprised by the ease with which she spoke, having assumed that this encounter might be more awkward than the one previous. Had she enjoyed the assumptions the mirrors made? For his part, the young man smiled hesitantly, taking in the surroundings before turning his attention back to the girl. “So - I have to apologize. I’m a total prat and didn’t realize what day it is. If you want to run away before we get served heart-shaped everything for lunch, I’d understand.”
Marietta smile became more genuine after hearing the familiar voice, “I just wasn't paying attention is all.” All awkwardness melted away, as it had before. “Wait, what?” She asked, obviously confused. Honestly, she rarely had a clue what day it was. Sometimes she would go a week before realising her birthday had passed. However, considering all of the extremely themed decorations that she'd somehow missed completely, it wasn't difficult to figure it out. Red and pink hearts and tiny angels were scattered on every surface possible in order to create what she supposed to be a romantic atmosphere (in reality it looked like primary school students had raided a craft shop). “Is it really Valentine's Day already?” Her voice full of surprise, an equally bewildered expression was clear on her face. “To be honest, I'd rather just continue; I assume people have already seen us so the damage is surely done.” Marietta decided after a few moments of thought. It would do more damage than good to reschedule at this point, she reminded herself.
Her brows were still furrowed in thought as she scanned the menu, eyes glazed over and not entirely focused on the options in front of her. Marietta let out a long sigh before taking a deep breath inward. “I hate how they can make me feel so guilty when nothing even happened!” She confessed, the annoyance spilling past her lips. “Those gossip bitches really have nothing better to do with their time than make fun of others; I feel like I'm back at Hogwarts.” Aggravation seemed to boil the air around her until it evaporated into steam. After a minute she came to her senses slightly. “I'm being ridiculous, aren't I?” She let out a stressed sort of laugh, resting her head in her hands. “It's been rather a long week.” That was the understatement of the century; Marietta had felt trapped in a never-ending cycle, doomed to live a life of embarrassment and treachery for the second time.
“Not that Diagon Alley’s particularly a bad place fer pets an’ whatnot, but they’ve got the bes’ pet park I’ve ever seen here. All wizardin’ folk, it’s righ’ fantastic, it is.” Seamus pointed ahead, past a fountain. Though it was already dark, wandlight and magically enchanted Victorian streetlamps lit the park surprisingly well. A small crup darted past Sea’s feet and a witch with her finnicky kneazle waved in unison to all the newcomers. There were many older wix walking a variety of magical and nonmagical creatures: puffskeins, streelers, owls, toads, nifflers, a fire crab, and a flock of silenced fwoopers. They’d Apparated just within the concealed location, which was a safe-haven park for witches and wizards, not well understood but thought to be some sort of pocket dimension within the city blocks that one had to actively seek to find. “What d’ye think?”
Marietta was amazed. The whole area seemed to ooze magic; it nearly took her breath away. She watched the different magical creatures move gracefully in the night and found a new appreciation for the simpler things. Her grin widened and her eyes gained back the curious glint. “Thanks Seamus. Really.” Her voice was full and sincere. Mareitta’s eyes were in constant motion, taking in all of the sights. The owls were her personal favourite; she thought of Edgar, her screech owl, and that alone helped her mood. “Do you have any animals?” She asked, breaking out of her happy daze for a moment.
Hannah laughed at the girl “Well believe it.” she giggled, sipping at her water, then shrugging. “It’s all part of the job really. If you’re serving alcohol to men who are here pretty much every night, even weekdays until late, it’s bound to happen.” she said as if it were the most normal thing in the world. “But yeah, I suppose that is part of the reason.”
Marietta grimaced, furrowing her eyebrows. “I don't think I could handle it.” She wouldn't even particularly appreciate the nicer interactions; Marietta was strictly not a people person. “Some guys really do just think with their dicks, don't they?” She sighed.
“Whiskey? Damn.” George grinned laughing loudly.
Marietta's smirk morphed into a grin. “I like the burn.”
Belle!
Hi Belle! I wanted to get this out to you before you leave but I may have missed you by a few hours (I’ll also be in Cuba tomorrow) so I need to do this reveal now! As you may have figured out, it was me! I had a great time talking to you and I hope I helped you explore Parvati and Marietta a bit more.
My present to you are some various edits and aesthetics that I hope you’ll like (I know Parvati and Marietta would, I did my research *cough* spamming you with questions and stalking their journals *cough*)! They were inspired by both of your muses, so if you combined the two you’d probably get a character like my edits XD. I also included a Pride and Prejudice edit (courtesy of Parvati) and a Carry On edit because you know Snowbaz is life :)Happy Valentine’s Day!

Alicia Spinnet - Secret Cupid
@aliciaspinnet-swiped
Marietta had no clue as to why she'd signed up for secret cupid; it wasn't her kind of thing at all. She felt pressured into finding something spectacular; which was a highly unlikely prospect. She was sure she hadn't spoken to Alicia at all in her entire life. The gift-picking process was arduous, but in the end Marietta came up with an idea she was fairly happy with. Using her charms knowledge, she created a travel mug. However, this was no ordinary mug. She charmed it to keep the beverage inside at the exact right temperature and, using some complex magic, made it so the mug would automatically fill with whatever the drinker desired. She added some fresh roses, because what girl didn't appreciate flowers, and an assorted basket of Honeydukes' finest before delivering it secretively with a lovely handwritten name tag.
Definitely, I actually think Simon Snow is my smol child and we know it. The closing scene was so down to Earth, absolutely a great way to tie it all up. The unreleased fanfic has never been seen by anybody but her. :( Secret Cupid time, for both you and Marietta and Parvati to answer. 1. What is your favorite place? 2. What music do you like? 3. How did you meet your best friend? And one more just for you: What is your favorite musical?
OOCI cried buckets at the end, both good and bad tears tbh. Aw that sucks :(
My favourite place is probably Loch Ness, It's so beautiful and tranquil. The kind of place you just want to sit beside and read meaningful poetry. I like all kinds of music but lately I've been listening to the new P!ATD album (love it so much) and also, bizarrely, a lot of Crosby, Stills and Nash. I've known my best friend pretty much all my life, I don't remember an exact meeting, but I also don't really remember a time she wasn't in my life. My favourite musical is either Spring Awakening or Les Mis, love them both to pieces <3
Marietta's favourite place is her workshop. It's cluttered and nothing is in its proper place, there's discarded coffee mugs all over the place and books scattered and opened on random pages. However, her magic just seems to flow better there and, despite the mess, her mind is clear. She loves classical music and could listen to Chopin or Tchaikovsky all day, but really she enjoys anything instrumental. Marietta met Cho at the Ravenclaw table after being sorted, they didn't click instantly, but over time formed a strong bond.
There is nowhere Parvati loves more than the divination classroom at Hogwarts. She spent countless hours just exploring and learning with Lavender, back when everything was easy and they were (fairly) innocent. She loves pop music; boy bands especially. Parvati hates when people act superior about their music tastes and insists that all music is good. Sometimes she feels like she listens to mainstream music to make a point more than anything else, but she enjoys it nonetheless. Parvati met Lavender on the train to Hogwarts. They immediately knew they were destined to be friends; it was written in the stars. As soon as Lavender was sorted into Gryffindor, Parvati was sure that's where she'd be sorted too.
Seamus smiled and gently held Marietta’s arm for the first time. It felt a bit awkward, since they were still very unfamiliar, but it was probably the only way to assure they could Apparate to exactly the same location without telling Edgecombe the surprise destination. With a loud crack and poppping noise, Seamus shivered as the cold air touched his skin and gasped for air after the claustrophobic experience that always came with Apparition. He let go of Marietta’s arm and looked around at the busy streets. This was a city alright, but it wasn’t London. The Wizarding World always focused on London too much in the scheme of Wizarding England, it was nice sometimes to get out and explore the other huge Muggle cities, many of which also had magical surprises to discover, if you knew where to look. “Welcome to Birmingham.”
Marietta was, as expected, a little bit apprehensive. She knew Seamus wasn't going to murder her in the back of an alley, but that didn't mean she was entirely comfortable. However, she decided to go along with it; perhaps she'd have fun. She shut her eyes tightly in preparation for apparating, it always made her nauseous, and gasped at the familiar sensation. When she opened her eyes she found herself in a very different city. She didn't recognise any of the features, but it definitely had a distinctly British feel. Marietta hadn't really spent a lot of time in muggle England and, therefore, didn't have a huge knowledge of the areas. “Birmingham. I don't think I've been here before.” She grinned, excited at the prospect of learning something new.
“Another round!” Pansy cued the bartender with a snap of her fingers.
“So why’re you drinking? Just because?” Marietta asked, curiously.
George nodded to the bartender, “One more scotch and a – whatever for the lady.”
“Whiskey, on the rocks.” She supplied.
“Well at least you’re planning to talk to her rather than avoid the situation all together. Thats admirable.” Hannah smiled reassuringly, she couldn’t imagine how hard it would be for Marietta, with everybody talking about her, and saying such horrible things while they’re at it. “Little bit of boring in chaotic times is definitely refreshing.” She nodded with a wink. Then shrugged at the brunettes question “Really, nothing.” Hannah scoffed at her comment, pouring a butterbeer for another customer “Hardly. I havn’t gone on a date in… Merlin ages.”, the (fairly drunk) customer she was serving heard this and made some revolting comment to her, to which she rolled her eyes “Yes thank you Joe. No more for you, go back home to your wife.” she said snarkily, returning to Marietta.
Marietta gave her a grateful smile. “Definitely.” She agreed. “I don't believe that.” She shook her head, grinning, then scowled at the crude comment. “Actually, if that's what you have to deal with, then I do believe it.” Honestly, she couldn't believe people that time, Marietta would have blown his head off.
OOC Whoever my secret Cupid is, I was kind of stupid and deleted the question in my inbox. However, I do have the answer saved. So here's the answer, without the question: I know, they're so perfect I was pretty much dying while reading <3 Really? If you find it then please let me know because I'm so there for that! I'm always early and end up having to wait for ages, it's a good way to get a better Piano Tiles score (I'm obsessed tbh). As for extra curriculars; I play in a jazz funk band, I sing in a choir and I act in local musicals. I'm a little bit of a musical theatre nerd ngl. My favourite thing about playing Marietta is the change to give her the redemption arc she totally deserves. I always felt really bad for her, especially considering everyone seemed to think she deserved it! As for Parvati, it's great to be able to add some depth to an otherwise shallow and overlooked character. Also, she's far more likeable than Marietta so I enjoy exploring her fun and outgoing personality. Parvati is less sarcastic and has more genuine banter. Marietta doesn't really care deeply about very much and isn't in a particularly happy place, whereas Parvati has deluded herself into thinking that now all of the trouble is over everything will return to normal. She's far more optimistic and naive in that respect. The drastic differences between them really make them more fun to play, and it's interesting to think how each character would respond to certain scenarios. They are similar in some ways though; they're both stubborn, passionate and entirely too attached to the past.
Belle ( @etta-combe ), here are some icons you can use for Marietta and Parvati! I hope you like them!
“Thanks!” Lee said brightly, trying to get a better look at the girl’s face. He didn’t think he’d seen this girl before in his life, but his imagination placed the word “SNEAK” on her face and he realized who it was: Marietta Edgecombe. His smile faltered a little as he said, “Er. Nice of you to say.” Over the years, he’d gotten better at hiding his emotions, but not by much.
Marietta noticed the slight slip in his friendly demeanor and realised that he'd probably guessed who she was. The realisation made the slight scars on her face burn. Although they couldn't be seen, due to the layer of makeup she ritualistically applied in the morning, she felt as though the words hadn't faded at all. Her own smile dimmed a bit also, but she tried to continue the friendly conversation. “Has business been good so far?” She asked politely.
No, your books are super cool! I love Rainbow Rowell, Carry On and Fangirl are two of my favorite books. I should get started reading Pride and Prejudice soon, I've heard some very swoon-worthy things about Mr. Darcy that I think I'll have to investigate for myself. Now for questions! Question 2 IC: Most people say that your values are partly from your family, so how did Marietta's family affect her? And Parvati? Question 2 OOC: What secret talent(s) do you have that others may not know about?
OOC
I love Carry On and Fangirl too! <3 I love Mr Darcy, can't wait for the new zombie movie- it's going to be awesome. Secret talents? That's tough. To be honest I've never been effortlessly good at something in particular. I play the trumpet, although not particularly well, and I'm an okay songwriter, but I wouldn't say I have any talents. It's cool though, I'm fine with being kind of good at most things. They do say a jack of all trades is better than a master of one, no?
IC
Marietta trusts her family a lot; probably too much. She inherited pretty much her whole personality from her mother and would do anything to protect her. They're both difficult to understand and get along with, and deep down all they really want is someone that will spend the time to get to know them. Her father is light in both of their lives; he's too good to be true. And, although Marietta tries really hard, she can never come close to his kind of good. However, sometimes it's thanks to him that she even tries at all.
Parvati thinks that perhaps the reason she was sorted into Gryffindor stems from her upbringing. She had always had impeccable family values and a strong sense of loyalty. For some reason, despite being more superficial and emotional than Padma, she felt the need to protect her. From what she had no idea, but Parvati would go to impossible lengths to ensure her family's safety. This lead her to discover her inner strength and bravery, which might otherwise have gone unnoticed.
@corner-swiped
Marietta was rather shocked to receive an invitation for lunch from Michael Corner. Honestly after all that had happened she had expected him to avoid her at all costs. But, here they were. They had decided on ‘The Feather & Thorn' considering its close proximity to St. Mungos, where Michael worked. The setting was very comfortable and homey, which helped immensely in calming Marietta's nerves. She wasn't really sure why she was so on edge, but for some reason her anxiety level was through the roof.
She arrived only a few minutes before Michael, allowing her sufficient time to settle and choose a nice table. Naturally, she picked one that was out of the way; so as to give them privacy and hopefully avoid more drama. She then sat and waited for her company to arrive, surveying her surroundings to pass the time. When Michael sat opposite her, Marietta jumped slightly. She had been so lost in thought that she hadn't seen him come in. “Oh, hey. I didn't see you there.” Her voice carried more confidence than she'd anticipated and she smiled as warmly as possible.
