Wilbur didn’t know what he was supposed to expect when he walked into the territory of Las Nevadas that night. But it wasn’t this.Â
With a reputation to uphold, it’s not a smart decision strolling into an enemy kingdom at 2 AM. Even to see a special someone, especially then.Â
He wouldn’t stop fiddling with his brunette curls, despite having fixed them over and over again before leaving his castle. (Does that matter? Probably not.)Â
Both Quackity and Wilbur knew the risks, however it never seemed to stop them.Â
especially not now.Â
The indigo-clad prince had been waiting outside the gates for a considerable amount of minutes now, debating if he should turn back. how long? who knows. time is a construct anyway.Â
No. he can’t go back. not now.Â
~~~~~~~
Wilbur better get here soon. it’s getting late. Quackity was getting impatient. He knows it’s dramatic, but Alex always started overthinking whenever Wilbur was late. Fuck, what if he doesn’t come? What if he doesn’t want to see him? What if his dad did something?Â
Scratch that, here comes chaos incarnate.
A  brunette man with slight stubble and a rugged indigo ruffle-collar shirt walked through the gateways underneath a black robe with hid all of his features. Yep, that’s him. That’s the man Quackity is in love with…
In a way, this night felt sacred to both of them. They don’t ever get much time to see each other. Therefore, whenever this moment stumbles upon them like Tommy’s raccoon legs, they take it.
The two kingdoms of L’manburg and Las Nevadas colliding is not unusual, but it can be as long as it’s domestic as these two attempt to make it. You could see this as a classic Romeo and Juliet, two enemy families whose children fall in love. But the craft and veda families differentiate from the two figures you might perceive them to be.
Nevertheless, this relationship is a secret for a reason.
~~Timeskip - about 20 minutes~~
Two brunette men lay in a king sized bed under a white comforter. Wilbur’s arms wrap around the duck’s waist, careful not to crush his wings. Meanwhile, his own feathery appendages lay against his back creating a black blanket of softness on his spine. Quackity’s face is in Wilbur’s neck, eyes already drooping.
“hey,” Wilbur used that hushed tone, the one he knows makes his boyfriend melt. “You alright?”
He hesitated. He hasn’t really been okay since the last fight the two kings had. Philza Craft and Schlatt had a dilemma about a week ago, not like that’s anything new. Still doesn’t make it a pleasant experience when Alex’s father is arguing with Wilbur’s about which one of them should die more.
 “I don’t know yet.” He confessed softly.
Wilbur didn’t push. He just nodded and held the other prince closer. He doesn’t know how they got here. Four months ago, Alex was just another boy that he was raised to be seen as an enemy. But things can change. So can people. And That’s why they’re here.
Warm. Safe. Free.
“Do you always wear that stupid shirt to bed?” Quackity chuckled.
Wilbur gasped in mock offense before standing up to change into a baggy t-shirt. As he does so, Quackity notices a flower tattoo on Wilbur’s arm. How long had that been there?
“what’s that?”
“huh?”
“You have a tattoo.”
Wilbur’s face flushed before he regained composure, clearing his throat. “Yeah, I-I do. Nobody knows though.”
Quackity raised an eyebrow. “Why?”
“my dad would probably kill me if he found out. I don’t know his opinion on things like that.”
Quackity understood that. It’s not like his father is any better. If you knew Schlatt as well as Alex, or anyone, you would describe him as anything but easy-going. Quackity touched his own earring, remembering the yelling… the judging… but that could wait.
hands met under the blankets.
“Do you ever want to go on a real date with me?” Wilbur had popped this question suddenly.
Taken aback, Quackity blushed. “Yeah…”
“have you ever thought about it? What we would do?”
There was some silence. Black feathers met gold, brown eyes met silver. Of course, Quackity’s thought about it. Being in public instead of always having to sneak with Wilbur whenever they wanted a moment alone. But… it’s hard to imagine what a life without the borders and castle walls. Hard to picture them just… being.
This night had been going pretty normal so far. The couple wrapped up in each other on the bed, a few kisses, some cheesy joke about their tragic star crossed lovers story.Â
And that’s when it changed.
A ring.
A bell.
Coming from L’manburg.
What time was it? Midnight. He doesn’t normally go back for a couple hours, but Wilbur could sense something was wrong.
~~~~
The bell kept ringing. Waiting.Â
Every step Wilbur took closer to home felt like a death sentence. He could feel his own heart beating. His legs were shaking.
The last thing he remembers from that night was a cold, husky voice masked by a veil of pink.Â
