Maria Elena González is 1/10 artists included in the most recent #BRIC shortlist curated by Alva CalyMayor. In "Tree Talk," series González translated bark patterns into a digitally cut roll for a player piano to see what kind of sounds would result. When played, the scroll has an unexpected “score.” The phrasing, polyphony, and rhythm seem deliberately composed and modern.
