Life has a funny way of playing out and when Tobin comes face to face with an old flame, life throws her a curve ball; UCLA forward Alex Morgan. A friendly favor leads to a budding friendship neither girl expects, especially while Tobin’s old flame is still around. With everything else going on in the UCLA midfielder’s life, Tobin’s never wanted her life to be under control like she does now.

This isn’t how she wanted to spend her evening. She wanted to be on her couch, catching up on the adventures of The PinWheel and the rest of the fleet on Wicked Tuna, not being pressed against Kelley in a crowd sweatier than she’d like.
“Change of plans!” Kelley yelled over the music.
“What do you mean, “change of plans”?” As if being dragged to some indie-rock concert wasn’t change enough.
Alex knew better than to expect that she’d actually get to enjoy her only day off, still, she plopped onto the couch and got comfortable. That only lasted for one infomercial.
“Morgan, get up!”
To say she was startled would be a lie. Kelley knew her schedule just as much as she did, so when her roommate bursts through the door, Alex is already waiting for it.
“Don’t give me that fucking look, we’re going out!” Kelley doesn’t even tell her where they’re going before she’s dashing off to her room, probably to get ready.
Shutting off the TV, Alex lets out an exasperated sigh.
“Kelley, what the fuck am I wearing?”

“What do you mean “change of plans”?” As if being dragged to some indie-rock concert wasn’t change enough.
“There are three opening acts! Main act won’t start till 10!” Alex scowls at her before Kelley can finish, “Maybe!” Alex can feel her annoyance rising fairly quickly, the pushing and shoving isn’t helping either. She tells Kelley that she’s going to be at the bar in the back and that she’ll just find her when the main act comes on.
The brunette made her way to the bar, leaning onto the counter as she asks for some water. The bartender gives her a strange look before obliging.
Taking a sip of her water, Alex feels the ache in her feet and wonders how bad of a friend she’d be if she ditched. Just as she began entertaining the thought, something interrupts her.
“We are The Blackouts! Are you ready to kill it?! Lets go!”
The bass booms so loud Alex can actually feel her ribs trembling. She glances at the stage, wondering why the hell she didn’t try and stay home.
“Must be having the time of your life!”
The question surprises Alex, mostly because she didn’t know anyone was standing next to her.
“Excuse me?” Alex has to yell over all the noise and even then she still wonders if any sound actually came out of her mouth. She watches as the woman smiles and leans in closer.
“I said you look like you’re having so much fun!” The woman shrugs, a laugh playing on her lips as Alex rolls her eyes and turns to face her.
“So much!”
They share a laugh and when Alex has the chance, she lets her eyes glance over this woman.
For once, she doesn’t have any complaints about her current situation.
“What gave me away?” Alex shouts. The woman, with her ever present smile, purses her lips together as if she actually had to think about it. To say she was charming was an understatement.
“I think it was your radiating frown and all around joyous “what the fuck have I gotten myself into” attitude!” Much too pleased with herself the woman laughs, watching as Alex rolls her eyes, trying to ignore the way she wants to take another step towards this woman. “Lemme guess, not your scene?” Alex quirks an eyebrow. She looks down at her outfit, suddenly all too conscious of her outfit.
When the woman just shrugs, Alex nods toward Kelley.
“Oh, you’re on a date?”
“God, no!” The brunette is elated when she sees the smile on the woman’s face grow into a shy smirk as she nods. “She needed someone and I was--”
“--That someone.” The two say in unison.
“Same.”
“Really?” Giving her another glance, Alex has a hard time believing this woman wasn’t here because she wanted to be. Maybe it was the torn skinny jeans, or the snapback--or both. Probably both.
The woman shrugs before leaning on the counter, ordering two shots of tequila. “Cheers.” She said when looks over at Alex.
With a smile, Alex shakes her head. “DD.” Glances back at Kelley who now has a drink in her hand that Alex doesn’t remember her ever getting. When she looks back at the woman, she shoots her a questioning look.
“What?” Is all she gets in return, well that and a shit eating smile as she hands the shot glass to Alex.
“Is this--”
“Water?” The woman answers with a smile that burns just as much alcohol could, Alex figures. She shrugs and raises up the small glass, “To us, then, the ever gracious friends!”
They spend the rest of the night in each others company, doing their best to block out the noise around them.
“I don’t even know who the opening acts are!” Alex’s confession pulls a laugh out of the woman, who just nods and agrees.
“Never heard of any of these people! Just got a wristband and slipped in!” She said, waving her wrist up as proof. Alex laughed, flashing hers too, how else would they have been able to get in?
As their conversation progressed, the brunette caught herself a number of times getting lost in conversation with this woman. They went on and on about nothing, but to Alex it was everything. She didn’t have to worry about due dates or meetings or projects, all she had to worry about was if she was going to get this woman’s number or not.
“Oh hey, that was the last opening act.” The woman states as the lights turn back on.
“Shit.” Alex hisses, remembering what she told Kelley. Just as she was enjoying her evening too. “I have to go find my friend, I told her I’d find her when the main act comes on.” She tells the woman when she sees her questioning look. There’s a look of disappointment on her face and Alex knows the feeling is mutual, neither of them want to leave.
“Well--”
“Will--”
The two talk over one another as the music dies down in prep for the next act. Just like most of their night, they’re laughing before the woman smiles and gestures for Alex to go ahead.
“Will I see you again?”
It’s the way that this womans smile grows that weakens Alex’s knees, not the fact that she answers with, “I hope so.” before asking the bartender for a pen. She watches as the woman scribbles something onto a napkin, heart soaring out of her chest when she sees the numbers.
Their fingers brush when the woman gives Alex the napkin and Alex swears she’s never seen a better smile than on--
“Tobin?” She asks after she reads the name and number on the napkin.
“That’s me...”
“Alex!” She winces at the eagerness of her reply. It goes unnoticed.
“Alex.” Tobin echoes, committing the name to memory. As if she could forget.
The two stand across from one another, barely a step or two separating them and Alex swears Tobin’s eyes flicker to her lips.
“So, I’ll be seeing you?”
“I plan on it.” Is all Tobin leaves her with before the two part ways.
Alex finds Kelley just in time for the start of the main act. The lights are off, save the stage lights, and Kelley is going on and on about how she’s “so fucking ready”, that Alex figures she might as well try and enjoy the rest of her night--even if all she can think about is finding Tobin when this is all over.
--
She didn’t have to wait until the show was over, all she had to do was look up to find Tobin. Guitar in hand, sweat pouring across her forehead, mouth against the mic, Alex watches, jaw slightly dropped, as Tobin lost herself in the performance. She almost forgets Tobin isn’t the lead singer until Kelley screams for him to love her.
It doesn’t take Tobin long to find Alex either. Midway through the second song Tobin finally picks her head up and scans the crowd, finding the face she’d spent all night with, and winks.
The crowd goes wild but Alex knows that was meant for her, so she saves her scream and tries to keep from melting.
Throughout the performance Alex’s eyes are solely on Tobin and vice versa, it became so blatantly obvious that some of the people around Alex start to notice.
It’s been awhile since Alex has felt these butterflies in her stomach and she would even blame Tobin for her lightheadedness but she isn’t sure if Tobin is the reason or if it was because of all the screaming.
As if answering her question, Tobin breaks their gaze to take over her solo. Her head bangs with every note, sweat plopping onto the stage with every strum, biting her bottom lip as she loses herself in the piece. That’s when the lead singer plants a large sloppy kiss on her cheek, as if the crowd wasn’t already screaming loud enough. When she hits her last note Tobin’s gaze moves back to Alex, her lip slipping out from under her teeth, panting as her tongue rims the newly red skin.
In that moment, Alex decides it’s Tobin’s fault. Everything she’s feeling is Tobin’s fault.
At the end of the set, as the band is thanking the crowd, the lead singer--Alex thinks his name is Trevor but she can’t be too sure with the way Kelley screamed it, throws his arm around Tobin’s shoulders.
“Also, can we hear it for my good friend, Tobin! Who filled in on guitars for me! What an angel, right?”
Alex, along with the rest of the crowd, is screaming for her but when Trevor yells asking them if that’s really how thankful they are, the crowd erupts louder. All Tobin does is chuckle a bit before taking off her denim shirt, reaching for the hand towel on the amplifier, when the crowd starts screaming again.
Shamelessly, Alex is one of the first to scream.
Kelley looks over at her friend, glowing with pride, “I knew you’d love it!” Kelley shouts, but her voice goes unheard.
Tobin looks at the crowd with an overwhelmed and confused expression as she wipes off her sweat, oblivious to what she’s doing.
Soon the crowd fizzled out and once Kelley had sobered up some, they left too.
It was nearing 1 in the morning when Alex finally tucked Kelley into bed, doing her best not to remember the hot mess that was the car ride back to their apartment. She plopped onto her bed, glancing over at her clock. She only had 6 hours before she had to be up again, but she couldn’t kill thought of texting Tobin, so she did.
“You didn’t tell me you were performing.”
“Didn’t think it mattered. Does it?”
“No but I wouldve asked for an autograph since you’re a celebrity and all.” Tobin read the message and laughed, typing out her reply.
“Well you havent miss ur chance. Meet me for breakfast sometime this week and I’ll make sure you get that autograph.”
If Alex could only see how red she was, too bad she was too busy smiling.
“9 on Friday?”
“Looks like I’ll be seeing you then.”
Alex plugs her phone into its charger and bashfully smiles into her pillow.
That night might’ve not gone the way she had planned, but a change of plans every now and then won’t kill her, but the girl that she met just might do the trick.

alex spends the months after tobins disappearance trying to figure out about why shes having these nightmares about her and this little boy. (at first she spent most of her time looking for tobin before her parents told her that they had to let tobin go and that the girl was simply following orders.)
when the school year starts back up alex would be going into her junior year of hs at her private school and it would have been 6-7 months since tobins disappearance. thats when her family gets an invitation to the heath family's ball where they are going to have a huge thing set up (keep in mind the heaths were just recently introduced into the story). this all happens a week before school starts. anyway this is where alex and all her school friends get introduced to Tobin Powell Heath. the newest student in the HOST classes. attached to her hip is Christen(it wouldve been mentioned that the two spent most of their time in california etc etc theyre family friends)
so of course from there its an obstacle for tobin to get close to alex after the girl no longer trusts her and from there alex, who has found no leads about her nightmares, slowly begins to get more and more descriptive nightmares to a point where she has one that kind of starts from the beginning.
basically alex runs into the boy when shes trying to be "independent" and use the subway by herself. i believe they were only like 11 i dunno. but she runs into the boy whos in a hoodie and sunglasses and when they collide his hood and sunglasses fall off but he still helps her up and they stand there waiting for their subway cart when they get abducted by a group of men who hold them ransom. so add that to whats already been written about her nightmares.
so as this is happening, tobin is making her mark in the host classes. amazing grades, star soccer presence, and a sleeper since she sleeps in almost all of her classes. she and christen have matching schedules so that helps her out, also because christen seems to always attract kelleys attention, its easier for tobin to try and get closer to the girl. yet kelley always shuns her because she can't tell her why she left alex and lied to her about being a maid and stuff.
one day after a huge arguement between alex and tobin, of course its spurred on by the fact that tobin was trying to talk to the girl, alex googles tobin to see who she really is. this leads her to multiple articles talking about a kidnapping. soon she realizes that when tobin was younger she was kidnapped and someone was taken along with her. now alex isnt stupid but shes hesitant so she tries to find a picture of tobin as a child and sure enough, the girl had a boys haircut. tobin was the "boy" who was kidnapped with her and tobin was the "boy" from the nightmares, that she still didn't know how they ended.
nothing entirely changed after, she still kept her distance and tobin was still being very patient towards the girl but her nightmares were coming back full force and this time there was no tobin to keep her safe.
heres where things dwindle down toward the end:
alex tobin and the girls are off on an away trip for a soccer tournament when alex falls asleep on the bus and in her sleep she finally relives the entire ordeal.
she and tobin had been kidnapped by men that wanted money from tobins family, alexs family wasnt THAT big of a name was they are now, so tobin kept her safe in hiding her in the warehouse they were stashed in. tobin continued to be beaten until she answered the questions she was asked, which she never did. once they were left alone tobin found a crawl space that lead outside but it was only big enough for one person, so she made alex go first. the girl protested but tobin was persistent and promised alex shed be right there for her. alex was terrified and didnt want to be left alone. she trusted tobin to keep her safe like she did when she hid her behind the stack of crates when the men that kidnapped them came looking for them. so tobin promises along with being there for her that shed do everything to keep her safe. so alex indeed goes through the crawl space but before she knows it she turns around to find tobin hissing at her to run and not come back as a mans voice begin to yell at her. alex ends up running away to gas station and calls the police but she never sees tobin after that.
when alex wakes up its because the bus they were on gets stopped on the side of the road by a few police cars but it turns out to be a hijacking and they're going for alex. they make everyone stay in their seats with guns pointed at them as they take a terrified and crying alex out. once theyre off the bus tobin is the first to run out and close the doors so none of their teammates get hurt. she attacks the kidnappers and they fight for a while until one realizes that its tobin heath. they end up leaving alex finding that tobin has more money to offer than alex does. and of course cliche-ly alex cries out for tobin and before shes thrown into one of the fake cop cars, tobin looks at alex with a soft gaze as shes keeping up her promise to keep her safe.
then alex and the people call the police and its been a day before alex makes the connection and tries her luck at the gas station she ran off to after tobin set her free. and sure enough shes being held at the same warehouse by the same people.
then at the end when tobins safe and getting her cuts and bruises and stuff checked she again shares a small moment with alex, knowing that just because this happened doesnt mean it fixes everything.
days later, when tobins wandering around the help buildings with lindsey like old times, alex catches up with her, much like before, and thats when alex asks how she found a job with her family.
tobin explains how she contacted the morgans when she found out alex was the little girl who got kidnapped with her. she told her how her family was sending her away to keep her safe and that she pleaded that instead of being sent away to be sent to the morgans under a new identity so that way she'd be safe, and repaying a debt. she tells alex how guilty she feels even now that the girl who had done nothing wrong had been kidnapped with her. so she felt like it was her job to keep an eye on her but she never planned on falling for her the way she did.
and then i wasnt entirely sure how to end it from there. but rest assured the two end up together.
