i feel like we haven’t examined the maria/francesca dynamic enough bc that one line about the boys in the neighbourhood not being good enough for francesca… like have we considered that maria actively interferes with francesca’s relationships? she tries to separate vito and joe, so it’s entirely possible. she may be one of those mothers who takes possession of her daughter, who needs her daughter close by always to be taken care of by her, but doesn’t actually show her any kind of affection
