[CASE IN POINT, IT HAS BEEN TWO DAMN WEEKS SINCE MY LAST POST HERE--]
"If she hadn't focused so heavily on the table and cleaned the rest of the room, none of this would have happened."
"Anything, huh? Alright, we've already done a picnic, so... Let's see... you're proficient with a sword, right?"
Well, this is SOMETHING she'd thought for a while...
"... How about a sword-only battle arena among the fairy maids, with limited danmaku? We're known to have the best fairies in the mansion, so we can't just sit here! We've got to practice, and what better way than an arena?!"
"And once we're ready... Bam! We'll launch a surprise attack on Sis, and... bam again! It'll be a tale around the Scarlet Devil Mansion for all to tell once we pit SIs's fairies against ours by surprise!"
...
"Sorry, too much?"
"That sounds doable. There's a couple rooms big enough for such an arena. And some of the maids were getting a little antsy for a proper fight anyway."
"A fight against Remilia's Maids would put us against odds of 100 to 1, a worthy fight I'd say. It would be glorious."
"I personally think it's an excellent idea. Just say the word, Lady Flandre, and your wish shall be made reality."
"That'll be GREAT! We definitely need to redecorate some of these rooms! But if it's alright, do... you mind making something like paintballs, with pillow forts, Eliza?"
"We can do anything you wish, Lady Flandre. You need only ask. Our whole reason for being down here is to tend to your wants and desires, and we aim to please."
Truly, it's been a while since Flan made any selfish requests, so the maids are extra hyped.
Loyalty
The fairy maids in the Scarlet Devil Mansion are a diverse lot. Some are good at some thing, while bad at others, and all have varying degrees of loyalty, and different allegiances to begin with.
Corridor Maids:
-Cleaning ability: Middling. They get by by having lots of fairies to clean, the most out of any group in the mansion! Maintenance ability: Low. Fixing broken stuff is like, Sakuya's job, you know? -Loyalty: Low, will often be the first to flee in the face of overwhelming odds -Loyal to Remilia
Guest Room Maids:
Cleaning ability: Very high. Maybe not the fastest, but they are perfectionists. Maintenance ability: Middling. Good at dusting, polishing, and scrubbing, but lacking in the repairs department. Loyalty: Medium. They're not really fighters, so they're not going to give everything they have. Loyal to Sakuya.
Kitchen Maids:
Cleaning ability: Decent, at least enough to prevent moulds and food-related epidemics. Maintenance ability: Decent, can get more life out of old kitchen ware than is normal, but they're no blacksmiths. Loyalty: High, they're here because they love what they do. They stay around, even if other maids may choose to leave. Loyal to Remilia.
Library Maids:
Cleaning ability: Low, that's what all the charms are for right? Magic is way better than a dustcloth! Maintenance ability: Low, physical ability is lacking among this lot. Loyalty: Quite loyal, there' few places where one can enjoy reading, fewer still that has a collection so vast that it actually contains books at all reading levels. Loyal to Patchouli.
Garden Maids:
Cleaning ability: Low, they literally work in the dirt all day. Maintenance ability: High, they're good with tools and are often asked to rebuild broken furniture and the like. Loyalty: Quite loyal, often the first to fight and die for the mansion. Their attachment to the garden and it's guardian are significant. Loyal to Meiling.
Armoured Maids:
Cleaning ability: Very low. Working all day in the hidden garage or raiding in the mountains, these girls would be in a lot of trouble if they used the regular fairy bedrooms. Maintenance ability: Very high. The true Working Class Fairies. They'd have to be good at it, having restored old wrecked tanks that they'd dug out of the earth. Owners of one of the few machine shops in all of Gensokyo. Loyalty: Very high, they're idealists, and will kill and die for those ideals. Loyal to the concept of the Scarlet Devil Mansion, rather than any one individual
Basement Maids:
Cleaning ability: Very High. The fact that the basement still looks like a basement and not an abandoned warehouse is testament to this. Maintenance ability: Very High. The fact that the basement doesn't look like a condemned asylum is testament to this. Loyalty: Highest. With their whole lives revolving around their mistress, they will gladly kill, die, and even suffer for her, if only she'd ask. The only maids whose loyalty would persist, even should their mistress be lost forever. Loyal to Flandre.
"But... the ball pit..."
"Lady Flandre, we can make our own ball pit here in the basement. We have more empty rooms than we know what to do with, we can just remodel one to that end."
How do the fairy maids who are assigned cleaning duties decide where to clean? Does Sakuya schedule them zones? Or do they manage on their own?
"At first it was Miss Sakuya. But after a while, as the staff grew larger, she saw the fairies forming groups and just left it to us. If one part of the mansion is lacking, she'll usually step in to direct the maids, assuming it's not just something she feels like doing herself."
What is the minimum amount of fairies needed to form a swarm?
"A dozen?"
"Maybe two dozen?"
"Or maybe it's five?"
"Who knows?"
"Who's counting?"
"Down that road lies madness."
What has been the largest fairy swarm ever formed? How long did it last?
"2005, you can figure out the rest from there."
How does a fairy swarm form?
"Like this!"
What has been the longest period of time without any workplace related injuries for the fairy maids?
"Couple days at most, really."
What kinds of exotic foods has Agatha tried to make?
"You thay ekthotic, but... in thith manthion, my cooking ithn't all that foreign. I cook wethtern dithhes. Breadth, thoup, caketh and pathe-- pathe... pathtrieth."
"I'm not going to talk anymore..."
In what order were the different fairy maid groups created? How did they come to be?
"You assume we have that long of memories."
"Don't listen to her, the groups just sort of formed on their own over time. The kitchen, the garden, the library... It was just a sort of natural divide over time, like cliques at school."
"What is clique? What is school?"
"The specific order isn't really important. Hierarchy among the maids is determined through competition, not seniority."
"So, um, who's going to fix the hole...?"
"Comrade Istina has volunteered, and other armoured maids will help."
"Wait a second, you're gonna rebuild it, after you blew it up?"
"Our plan is to take the existing plumbing, and remake that space into something all maids and guests can make use of. Communal washing space. Showers, basins, sinks. Will aid in keeping mansion and people clean. Cleanliness is health, and health is good, da?"
"W-whoa, you've really thought this through. And here I thought the armoured maids were all a bunch of combat obsessed meatheads-- I-I mean..."
"Do not worry, we understand where you are coming from. We understand our reputation. In time you will see, there is more to us than you could ever know."
"Tell me, what has happened."
"We lost several comrades, contaminated food."
"From just a bag of crisps? If it is poison, do not eat it."
"No comrade, it is far worse than poison."
"Very well... this is--"
"Comrade Istina! Are you alright?!"
"I-I... this is... oh, what have they done to this potato..."
"Incredible, all others who took a bite perished immediately."
"It must be because she is potato fairy herself."
"Comrade Istina is potato fairy?"
"Da."
"ENOUGH!!"
"C-comrade?"
"We... must destroy the source of this... abomination. Scorched earth. Burn the capitalist establishment that would DARE defile our beloved crop."
"Well, Salty... It seems like the Mistress was dissatisfied with your work on the grill. So unfortunately, we're going to have to let you go."
"Luckily, we have another opening for a position to make the crisps. That seems a little bit more aligned to your skill set. How does that sound?" So basically, she got fired and rehired on the spot. Or, is it demoted? Technically she's still in the kitchen.
"That was sort of my intent, to have her--"
"Oh, I see..." Is that disappointment? It's hard to tell, since she can't actually feel all that bad. "Very well then."
Now, fries are supposed to be salty. Sometimes, really salty fries can be even better.
However, while still retaining their original texture and appearance, something in the taste has changed. The level of saltiness of these fries is simply, off the charts.
-It strips your tastebuds, leaving you unable to taste anything save for a metallic numbness in your mouth.
-It bring about a great thirst, one that no meagre amount of water could ever slake.
-It wracks the stomach, giving you great pain and acid reflux.
-It causes you to sweat, your fingers and toes grow pruned as if soaked in water.
-It makes you dizzy, your vision periodically flashes white, and you find it hard to walk in a straight line.
Forget human consumption, this food would be considered cruel torture at best.
