Spill your tea/thoughts on Mercedes lol

Okay…

I believe everything about her character is so fabricated and superficial, and that’s why it’s so difficult connecting with her for people who are not hardcore fans or weren’t that familiar with her work in WWE. The catchphrases feel so forced, both the “money changes everything”, “that’s the price you pay when you mess with Moné”, the nickname itself, and the song, even Britt pointed out the pipped “CEO” chants. Everything about her it’s beautiful and interesting visually, with the amazing hair and the always spectacular outfits, the unbelievable gears, the coats… she looks like a star and we cannot say other wise. But my problem is that, okay, she looks great… and what else? There’s no dept, there’s nothing to emotionally connect with her or to be involved emotionally with her character. And I know she is a heel (now) and I should boo her, but besides her cocky attitude, I don’t even have anything to hate her for. And I don’t even blame the booking for that, because she has had a lot of screen time, she has had promo time and some matches, but, she still says the same on the promos, about how much money she has, about how amazing she is… but there’s literally nothing else. There’s nothing organic about the character. It’s like, MJF, dude was exactly that at first, just a cocky, arrogant asshole with a lot of money, but his vendettas against everyone were personal, he explained why he turned on Cody, why he had to create The Pinnacle, I don’t even have to mention the reasoning behind his hatred for Punk, and even now, the man has a deep reason of why he turned on Daniel and went back to being the worst person ever. Not to mention the unbelievable story Hangman has been telling. Or Mariah! And we haven’t even heard her reasoning, but I just know she’ll take that mic and say “I was just using Toni”, “I have always been star but I was overshadowed by her” or something else.

My point here is that, she is the “CEO”, she has a lot of money and she is one of the best ever… but why should I hate her now she is a heel? Or why should I support her as a face? And obviously I’ve been a fan since NXT and I know her career, but for those who don’t, who is Mercedes? What’s her motivation behind “being the best”? I would just love her cutting one promo with an evil speech of why she wants to erase Britt from the map (now that’s the feud), why she will elevate the TBS Championship, why she hates the fans, why Britt represents what she hates about wrestling or whatever… just something deep that make us feel something organic. Or I want a reason to actually chant “CEO” to her, more than the pipped chants in her song.

Mercedes as Sasha has and will always be one of my faves ever, but these are just my opinions towards her current character work.

My issue with AEW women’s division at the moment (their booking has definitely improved since Toni is champ) is that they end one feud and immediately go to the next one. When we could have easily had Toni vs Deonna part 2 and even 3, as well as with Rosa. They made Toni have a singles match with her opponents and just continue with the next one, when she could be having a second part in a street fight match, a 3rd part with a last woman standing, etc.

And when the ppvs are so close to each other, they don’t have time to actually build the feud, like it’s happening right now with Serena. This could have been Toni vs Rosa in a street fight match or something.

My main problem with the AEW women’s division is that they don’t give them promo time, especially in ring promos. And that is an issue because I’ve seen comments of people saying “I don’t care about the division” and the thing is that promos give us the opportunity to know wrestlers, their personalities, some promos can result in catchphrases or nicknames, it’s an opportunity to give people a reason to care about them. How are we supposed to know their backstory, their mannerisms, their charisma, their freaking personality if they don’t let them? During the WWE Women’s Revolution, we fell in love with people like Sasha, Bayley, Charlotte and Alexa because they gave us a reason to care about them. We knew the facial expressions of Alexa and how great she is on the mic, it gave Sasha a catchphrase, it gave Charlotte the opportunity to show how a great heel she is, and more recently, it gave Bayley the freaking “Ding Dong, Hello!”. The women have great personality and charisma and they should be given this time to show them. One of the freaking reasons of why MJF is the most over person right now it’s because he have had countless opportunities to know and identify with him and his story… I think the girls deserve the same opportunity.

That’s why Toni’s new gimmick has worked so well until now. They have gave her the time to develop, to show how charismatic and funny she is and make us care about it. We need more of that.
