I never posted my finished version of @foxleycrow’s commission of Miriel in A Feast of Ashes, and @finweanladiesweek seems like a good time to do so !

The North End of the Salt Road has been updated!
Twice!
The first update it this amazing piece of art by @lidoshka! Vinyarë, Naryafinwë and Moruivë sitting in Yavanna’s pastures, telling and listening to tales of the Gap of Maglor. The art is also available in chapter 5!
The second update is of course the newt chapter of the story! Elrond gets a letter, and may or may not follow the quest to uncover Maglor’s secret…
I’ve been trying Canva for moodboard and did a quick one for The North End of the Salt Road! Baby Vinyarë and the olive trees around Valmar, Naryafinwë and the books of Fëanor’s library.

Part 1: Finrod visits the Gap of Maglor, discovers life at the frontiers of the Noldorin realms is painted in shade of grey, and that some secrets should remain secrets.
Part 2 (now complete!) : Following Finrod’s revelations about the secrets, new characters pick up Maglor’s story where Finrod left it! Can they uncover what the bard wanted to hide at all cost?

“Do you want to hear a secret?”
“If you tell her a secret, Narya, I fear it won’t stay a secret for much longer,” Nerdanel said fondly. I denied indignantly. It was true I was a blabbermouth, but I could keep secrets if they were important enough and said so with much conviction. “Alright, alright. I think Lalwendë wants to know the big secret.”
Fëanaro’s silver eyes focused back on me. I felt like an onion being peeled from its layers until he could feel confident enough that I wouldn’t betray him.
“When I was Ingoldo’s age,” he said, using Arafinwë’s mother-name, “I had an imaginary friend who was also my older brother. His name was Mirfinwë. He looked a lot like father, he loved being High Prince. He was very smart, reliable and steadfast. He was born in Cuivienen and he could tell a lot of amazing stories about the Journey.” Finwë talked very little about the Journey. Stereotyped tales were available but it was like every single person who came from Cuivienen was unwilling to expand on them. I was not surprised that Fëanaro had been frustrated as a child. “He did all the tedious work and I dreamt of spending all my time studying and making things.”
It is funny when I think about it now. Fëanaro’s imaginary older brother was everything Nolofinwë became, everything he hated in his little brother. But Mirfinwë was not a son of Indis, and Miriel was not dead in his childhood fantasies.
In Fëanor’s fix-it AU, Mirfinwë married Indis and was the father of all his half-sisters and half-brothers. In A Feast of Ashes Fëanor dreams several time of this, including a scene in which Queen Miriel commissionned a portrait of Finwë, the Crown Prince and his heir.

Star-shaped flowers for Miriel
In my fic A Feast of Ashes, Finwë must recovers from one of the highest mountains a “star-flower” in order to prove his love to Miriel. I have decided to use this flower consistently for Miriel, and here is why!
The Star Flower is very obviously an Edelweiss: it is found only at the highest mountains. Because of that, the Edelweiss became a symbol (during the XIXth century) of alpinism, excellency and feats of strength and endurance. It is a small flower whose “petals” are arranged in a double-star formation.
With the love of the Noldor for excellence and the love of all elves for the stars, I can definitly picture one of them with this flower as a symbol. I have made some quenya name for it: Elvëlotsë (”small starlike flower”)

The shape of the flower kinds of look like a Fëanorian Star. It had been noted that the Fëanorian Star also reproduces a round diamond cut and that Fëanor’s sigil was also very close to this, but that doesn’t mean the Fëanorian cannot have their own flower as well!

Capindë Indyamien is the wife of Telperimpar and a childhood friend of Fëanor. The daughter of Finwë’s chambellan, she lived at court for most of her life as the strongest defender of the “Miriel fashion style” at court. Amongst other things she was also the one who whispers the who’s who into Fëanor’s ears when he had to attend court as a prince. When in their teens, she used to send him weekly letters, and was deeply in love with him. She later met Fëanor’s best friend Telperimpar and married him.
Capindë was the leader of the fëanorian party in the Great Fashion War. She later followed him to Formenos and became a member of his Royal Guard. Her daughter Aicahendë married Curufin, though Capindë had few years to spend with her grandson Tyelperinquar: she drowned with her husband when Uinen sunk their ship.
