I would kill to swim here as a mermaid. đž

The water burned against his skin, turning it a harsh shade of red, as he stayed under the spray but Jefferson couldnât feel it. Not when his thoughts were lost among the memories that were blending together. Before the cloud of the curse had overtaken him, he had been slaving mindlessly away in Wonderland, the land that had stolen everything from him, to try to replicate the hat that had brought him there in the first place. Each failed attempt only reminded him of how he had failed both his wife and his daughter.Â
When heâd woken up, heâd first thought that it had all been a horrible nightmare. The head of red hair beside him could only belong to one person and their daughter would be just down the hall. But then the memories of his time spent under the curse blended among the others and heâd nearly bolted from the bed as fast as he could.Â
He had truly failedâŠfailed themâŠand how he couldâŠhow could he everâŠ.
His fist bashed against the hard shower wall as if it would destroy what had happened. By the time he reached for the sponge to scrub as his skin, tears mingled with the shower spray as they rolled down his cheeks, both the water and soap burning as they seeped into his raw, bloodied knuckles.
She tried to leave him be, hearing the water surging. A part of her felt a bit sour he was so-- horrified by her but she was still reeling with the rest. Her clothes were put on, the kitchen a short trip down the stairs to help get a snack and give them space.Â
Though when minutes ticked by and she heard nothing but an alarming thunk from upstairs she began to worry. The scent of blood as strong as if she were a shark as she narrowed her eyes on the ceiling. Part of her should wait, to just leave whoever he was be... Yet, she couldnât. They had liked each other during the curse, so perhaps there was something...
Ariel was back up the stairs soon after, barely pausing before gripping the door open and forcing it as she stuck her head into the steam. It hurt just to breathe in the space, his shower warm enough to fog out the large insuite. âYouâre going to burn yourself--â the words are filled with worry behind the rather scolding tone, eyeing the figure in the fogged glass as she stood at the door.

Steve wasnât sure what was going on with the woman, but he could tell something was⊠off. Off was, really, the best word he could come up with. The question she posed to him was met with a shake of the head. Whether he was or not, of course, he wouldnât give an actual answer to. It didnât really matter. He was way off course and getting back on course wasnât something that seemed like it was going to happen any time soon.
Of course, when she responded that she was willing to help him travel a few hundred miles, Steveâs brows flew up. He didnât see a car around, though it was possible there was one â or a boat, perhaps â somewhere nearby. âThat would be nice,â he admitted.
He gave her a slightly confused look at her wording, at the way she said things. There wasnât anything wrong with anything she said, of course. He was just getting some vibes that he wasnât really sure what to do with. A handshake, though? Steve didnât hesitate to step forward and offer the woman his hand and a firm shake. âAriel,â he repeated, smiling. âItâs nice to meet you, Ariel. Steve Rogers.â His smile softened, then, as he leaned back, his hand falling to his side. âIt was nice of you to come over.â
Ariel ruffled her hair softly, knocking free some more sand now that the winds were drying her. Being up on land again was unusual, her eyes glancing along the shores to avoid staring at the human and scaring him.Â
His handshake was met with one of equal or greater force, the mermaid not sure how to handle humans and trying her best to not end up over using her strengths. (Toss a whale once and they get terrified for years.) After greetings were made she turned her attention to the few palms the littered the beach, wondering how humans made their rafts. âWell, Steve, when you hit the water it caused quite a stir. Usually when a human hits that hard they are out, but you just kept swimming. I was curious.â
âFor the travel to your intended shore, did you wish to swim or float?â The question was with an innocence, her eyes still on him as she smiled, knowing he seemed confused by her and trying to assure she was safe.

It was Poseidonâs idea to sneak into the community pool in his neighborhood. It was a surprise he had planned for Ariel. âStop worrying. No one is going to catch us.â The God took the redhead by the hand and guided her through one of the back entrance doors. They quietly walked through the empty hallways and pushed through the doors to the pool. The water was peacefully still in the darkened room, inviting them in to make a few waves. Poseidon stripped off his clothes and waited for Ariel to take herâs off as well before taking her hand and leading her into the pool. He pulled the woman close to his chest, kissing her deeply, running a hand over her voluptuous curves. @feettofins
Ariel followed along with him, spouting off all the ways this was a bad idea, not that it was stopping her. She was right on his heels, shorter legs doing double time to match his strides as she clutched his hand. âSo you say until old-man rent-a-cop comes around.â There is amusement in her tone, though the pool being lit to calmly made her want to groan with want. It took an ounce of control not to dive right in, stripping down and carefully placing her clothes away. When she slunk in she enjoyed the weightlessness, pouncing on him and winding her arms around his shoulders as her lips found his. âJust so you know if we do get caught, youâre on your own.â

âWhat are you doing so far from home, Ariel?â Concern that Ariel is alone is Dianaâs first instinct. Her niece is strong, of course, but, even Ariel isnât strong enough to deal with some of the darkness that lingers in this particular city. After the battle with the two âsuper menâ that darkness has been more prevalent of late.
âAuntie Diana!â The mermaid was delighted to see family. It was not often the two branches crossed paths given their choice of land and sea but that didnât stop the mermaid from practically pouncing forward to clutch at Dianaâs hand. âI went to go exploring. The land of man is such an unusual and amazing place.â

@feettofins asked for a Deckhand Starter.
Killian had been swabbing the deck despite the storm going on around them. Partly because that was his orders that had been given and he feared what the Captain may do if he was to disobey his orders. With the wind howling it was getting harder for him to keep his footing, and still he kept his attention on the job he was given.
The Captain was shouting orders at the rest of the crew as Killian focused on the pointless work that had been put in front of him. Soon the captain shouted at him to instead drop the mop and grab one of the ropes. The fear hit him immediately but he did as he said, despite not being sure how desperate the captain would be to ask for him to help as a crew member.Â
A large wave hit the side of the ship and Killian lost his grip, being thrown over the side of the ship. He only had a moment to take a deep breath before he hit the water, his head going under. With the drop he was nearly knocked unconscious and in the back of his mind he knew that the Captain and the crew wouldnât be helping him.Â
The mermaid had an odd habit of stalking sailorâs ships, the redhead unable to resist enjoying the conversations and shanties overheard on the high seas. It was often her sole interaction with others. The others of her kind were spread far and wide, and quite honestly, boring when engaged in conversation. One would think with the vast realms they could travel there would be more to talk about. Instead, Ariel was far more likely to trail after vessels of the humans, wishing to learn all about the world sheâd yet to step foot on. A deep fear of leaving the sea kept her from making the change to give her the legs needed to become part of their world.
It was on one such expedition that sheâd heard the shouting voices, the sailors all scrambling about the deck as a storm surged upon the vessel. The plight of the crew gave the mermaid a sense of anxiety as all she could do was bear witness to their struggles as they tried to out race the worst of it.
The storm was strong enough to even give the mermaid trouble, forced to dive down into thicker waters time and again, where the current merely pressed and pulled her body rather than tried to slap it about with waves. A piece of her was near ready to seek the safety of deeper waters until something broke the surface. A large weight hit the waters from the vicinity of the ship, her eyes quick to see what cargo was lost before realizing it was a man. A spike of fear was quick to course through her as she watched arms and legs attempt to keep him afloat.
Teeth sank against Arielâs lip as she tried to reach a decision. Her eyes never leaving the man as he struggled against the rough seas. The fear she had of the humans had frozen her in place until she finally forced herself forward. That tail of hers gave a great thrash, jetting through the various undercurrents to try and reach the man before heâd lost his breath, slender arms reaching out to wind around his torso as she met him from behind. A sharp tug came as she locked her wrists around him to force him above the surface and let him gain a proper breath.
