“You may.” The emperor responded, disregarding the cheekiness of her tone. He was just grateful that the first person he had run into respected his status enough to attempt formality. He honestly wasn’t even expecting to run into someone human so he counted himself lucky. Listening to her ramblings, Kuzco nodded slowly as if understanding, all while holding an expression that displayed just how confused he really was at what she was saying. He had been hoping for some answers and what the young girl had provided him with were only more questions. 

“Uh…huh.” The words came out slowly, as if he were still processing what she had just said. “But if I was good at directions, I’d be home right now. Is this some kind of riddle or something? ‘Cause I don’t have time for games. You’re not making any sense.”

🍄 ❀ ✿      “ Because I’ve chased him too! ”  She was quick to add when faced with suspicion.   “ For a VERY long time, once...  But, you see, he’s so good at getting nowhere, that he got TO there so much quicker, and-- ”  Suddenly, the girl drops her hands onto the puff of her apron, drooping in defeat at her own words.   “ Oh dear, this sounds silly... ”   Wonderland was rubbing off on her, wasn’t it? Or-- worse so-- she dreaded to think that it was true she was always mad from the start... And, for that matter, does that mean HE was too?  But then---

“ --Exactly! ”   The little girl jumps to point out, quite literally hopping back into the conversation on her black mary-jane toes.  “ Yes, you MUST do that :  Stop making sense! ”  Her hands cut the air, as if blocking out any useless sense in this world of nonsense, before coming together in a beg-- if only because she wanted so much to prove she wasn't lying.    “ Oh, please, your majesty-- just try it... What’s that saying?  ‘ When in Rome..? ’  ”

“Shshshsh.” The emperor shooshed her again. “I’m getting to that part.” Kuzco assured her with a scowl. The little blonde girl was the first human he’d seen for miles in this land of madness and he had a lot to talk about. And honestly, whether or not he had a lot to talk about didn’t matter– the emperor LOVED to hear himself talk in general, so this would have been the outcome anyway.

“So, anyway, this rabbit steals my golden earrings, right? Naturally I chase it and would you believe it, the furry monster leads me to fall into some hole in the middle of the jungle!” Kuzco explained, gesturing around with his hands as he did so. “And, listen, I pride myself in a lot of things because I’m great at a lot of things but directions? Mmm, not that great at directions. I swear, the further I walk through this jungle, the deeper it feels like it’s getting! Is that just me?”

🍄 ❀ ✿      Her button nose scrunches up at their quieting, but she tips down her head in surrender as the unusual royal figure continued with their talking. Luckily she was quite accustomed to odd royalty-- and their ruder natures...   

“ -- A WHITE rabbit? ”  She couldn’t help but interject, though even this time she raised a hand to cover her own lips, hoping they wouldn’t mind the small addendum.  It was just very unusual-- even for them... Why on Earth would her majesty’s Rabbit steal golden earrings from an emperor?   (  ‘ Political turmoil, surely. ’  )   The girl had personally decided.

“ ... May I... speak now? ”  She thought it proper to ask, ( if not a tad cheeky. )   “ You see, your highness, you’ve stumbled your way into Wonderland.  And-- you may be stuck because you’re quite good at directions, actually! ”  She decided to add, as they seemed to like hearing about themselves.   “ Only here, you must do everything through nonsense, or you’ll never find your way.  It’s only that you didn’t know that, you see... ”   She nods in assurance.   “ Now, where are you trying to go? ”
