Uh, so remember when I said that I was binding a book? It's finished. 😊 So, in order: signatures ready to be sewn together, finished text block, side view of text block (the sewing lines were so straight, you can see them under the fabric, it was so satisfying to see how they turned out 😌), cover and finished book!
The whole process was so worth it, I'm definitely going to do it again! Maybe do a paper back next time? 😁 I have half a mind of making a whole shelf of hand-bound fanbooks.
Like I said on the other post, the work I chose was The Bingo Book, by @flailinginlove, one of my favorite fics ever.
The "worst" part (more like the more aggravating) was to format the text because I used Google Docs since I have no knowledge in more professional softwares. It was a lot of back and forth to make it look like a regular book. I had a lot of ideas that I couldn't make work because of the Google Docs limitations, but I'm happy with the overall result. Gluing the cover art was also very challenging and stressing because I messed up some measurements (as you can see, the art is not centered), but I just went ahead anyway.
The best part was definitely designing the cover art! The vines with shuriken sprouting like flowers, the kunais, the symmetry of the design! I was so proud of myself for making it! Sewing the signatures together come as a close second. 😁
I loved the experience! I'm already deciding what fic I'm going to bind next. ❤️
do you allow tips or have a ko-fi? your works were some of my favorites, and I would really love to pay you back a bit for how much I loved them, thank you!
Hello, Anon! I'm so happy you liked my fics enough to want to tip me for them! Just reading this made my day. Thank you!💖
But seriously, no tips necessary. One of my favorite things about fandom in general is that it's a gift economy, so I wouldn't want to make money off it. I love the idea of people making things for each other out of shared interests, and it's just really awesome to know that there are literally thousands of people around the world that have read and enjoyed my fics. The occasional message like this or comments on my fics or people creating art/fic/translations/podfic for my fic is payment enough! But thank you so much for even considering it!🥰🥰🥰
I love your writing! Especially The Lightning Summon series, such a fun concept!
What was the second part going to be about?
Hello, Anon! Thank you for the ask. I don't check tumblr very often, so I'm sorry if you sent it a while ago.
I'm really glad you like my writing and that fic so much! <3
I have two WIPs in that verse. The one I mentioned in the author's notes was basically PWP, Iruka finding out that lightning demons go into heat. XD; But I'm unfortunately not thrilled enough with it to want to post it. The other fic was Naruto summoning Sasuke, but that's just a few rough paragraphs, not anything close to an actual fic.
I've been writing mostly original stuff recently, so I haven't been doing much fic writing, but I do really love that verse. So if/when I start writing more fic again, I'd love to revisit it someday. :)
Another book finished! I actually had a lot of various issues with this one, just due to me not being as attentive when I was working on it (honestly... probably NOT the best to work on detail oriented things during finals season and late at night, but I am driven by the incessant need to create and my brain has latched aggressively onto bookbinding as creative outlet like a starving dog a meat bone). Plus the printer was a bitch problematic and decided that the pages simply MUST have pink all over them, and so they do. It's not the worst that could happen so I didn't feel the total need to reprint, but I did buy cream paper to have, well, nice creamy paper, so that would have been nice (the pink doesn't come out as much in the photos). But, in all, it came out decently, and as with anything I create it is growing on me after I get past all my criticisms of it.
I originally was just planning on working on the rest of the mock icha icha anthology series and not tossing in another book to do, but when I read this fic I rather fell in love with it (the slow burn is fantastic in an incredibly teasing way), and especially as it was vaguely 1001 nights themed I really couldn't help myself (I adore anything themed, as I can then happily lean into it for colour schemes and paper choices). It is a bit amusing that it does have a 'icha icha' title, since it then rather fits into the rest of the collection.
Icha Icha Nights (E, 50k, Kakashi Hatake x Umino Iruka)
A foolish bet is going to get Iruka and his friends killed if he can't find a way to save them from the ruthless king who has imprisoned them. Each night he tells the king stories to buy them more time, but in between the lewd tales he spins, he discovers that not all of his friends are what they seem, and neither is the king.
This is so freaking cool. Holy shit. I love it. Seeing an actual, physical copy of one of my fanfics is a little bit of a trip. Like, that's a thing! That I wrote! In book form!
Also, basically all my notebooks and things tend to be starry and blue, so it's beyond perfect. *__*
I can't imagine how time intensive it has to be to create something like this, but thank you so much for making it! <3
A tongue-in-cheek Kakashi x Iruka anthology modelled after icha icha paradise. I kept reading about Kakashi's love of erotica (and icha icha), while reading, well, erotic kakairu fanfiction. As a result I kept going 'same hat' (although I'm probably not going to be in public reading it. It's not subtle, although it'd be fun to see who would recognize it?) and then had this idea as a result. I've always loved subtle breaks in the third wall and self-containing/perpetuating systems, so this really tickled me. I may or may not be planning to do the entire icha icha series as kakairu anthologies and most definitely have not started on icha icha violence, idk what ur talking about.
Icha Icha Paradise Anthology Fanfiction list:
A Heat-seeking Cuddle Octopus (4k, G)
It wasn't that Iruka wasn't willing to share a tent with his squad leader. It's just that he wished that Kakashi wasn't such a cuddle-octopus in his sleep.
Responsible, forever, for what you have tamed (4k, M)
Kakashi gets hit with a Jutsu and becomes feral.
Always Only One Night (6k, M)
Iruka has a one-night stand with a man whose face he has never seen before. Only it's not just one night, and there is something about the man that seems familiar, if he could just figure out what.
The Heart that Hungers (7k, T)
With Naruto away training life for Umino Iruka had gotten quiet, but that quiet had been broken up periodically by the kindness of Hatake Kakashi, who discreetly delivered him letters from their mutual student whenever he got the chance. Which was great, amazingly thoughtful even, but the problem lay within the fact that it made Iruka's heart starved for more. For Kakashi. And so he kept a polite distance, didn't let on to feelings he had no right to have for someone as incredible as Hatake Kakashi. But the universe had a way of setting things right, of pushing people like Iruka, who deserved more than they gave themselves credit for.
Enter Senju Tsunade, Godaime Hokage of Konohagakure, and resident overly-stressed medical professional who could not take another second of Kakashi being a reckless idiot. She assigns the most caring man she knows to care for the most infuriating man, official mission scroll and everything, and calls it a day. And while Iruka takes the assignment (though whether it was willingly is up for debate) he can't help but wonder if he can survive a week in the company of the man his heart hungers for.
Fine Point of a Blade (9k, E)
Iruka’s body froze as terror gripped his heart. With claws. He watched a gloved hand deftly pluck the blade out of the air, bringing it up to a porcelain mask painted with red, waved lines. ANBU.
A strange meeting with an ANBU in his childhood leads Iruka down a life-changing path.
Willful Concealment (13k, E)
“Are you planning to keep my hair tie?” Iruka asked suddenly, a hint of amusement in his voice.
“I’m holding it prisoner for crimes against the citizens of Konoha.”
“What are the charges?”
Kakashi smiled, twirling the band around his forefinger like a kunai. “Perjury and willful concealment.”
Iruka huffed and shook his head, lips thinning in a way that made Kakashi think he was holding back a grin. “You know, if I’d realized you had such a thing for long hair, I would have started wearing mine down years ago.”
Kakashi’s thumb caught the hair band, halting its revolution.
“Years?”
(Or, in which Iruka asks for a single night, and gets a whole lot more.)
Worst Mission Ever (21k, T)
“Iruka, how would you feel about taking on a solo mission for me?” Sandaime asked.
Thrown by the change of topic, Iruka blinked at him.
“What do you want me to do?” he asked.
“Befriend Hound.”
A Stupid Favour (33k, Not rated- I'd say M or E tho)
"Iruka-sensei! Do you have a moment?"
"Yes? Tsunade-sama?" Iruka's voice came, drawing closer with every syllable.
"Someone has a stupid favor to ask you."
Shifting cloth and more clicking of shoes said Tsunade had come back into the room, followed by another person, whom Kakashi assumed was Iruka.
"The brat either needs to stay in the hospital or to have a babysitter for two days," Tsunade said bluntly.
OR, in which Kakashi is blind and sans chakra for two days but is desperate to find a way to leave the hospital until his sight and chakra can be restored.
Book two of the mock Icha Icha collection as Hatake Kakashi x Umino Iruka anthologies; Icha Icha Violence. This one was actually 20k longer than the first one, so she's a bit heftier. I'm trying to arrange specific fics to match the titles at least vaguely; so for violence, I decided to go for jutsu mishap/chakra related fics since they're often the result of violent interactions? That totally works, yup. 100%.
I'm actually inordinately pleased with this book since I found I had close to zero mishaps while working on it and the bookboard is basically perfectly spaced from the textblock like a normal book. It's always great to start to be able to streamline what works the best for you in any hobby and this book really helped in cementing some techniques.
If you want to see the post about the Icha Icha Paradise book, go here.
And as always, here's the list of fics from the icha icha violence anthology:
The Odd Couple (12k, M)
Iruka and Kakashi are forced to share a body.
Touch you, that is all (13k, E)
He held out a hand in front of him and realized with a disconnected sort of wonder that he could see straight through his palm. That could not be good.
Or, Iruka gets hit by a jutsu that knocks him out of his body, and Kakashi is one of the few people who can still see him.
A kind of idiot (19k, M)
Iruka can't remember anything and Kakashi gets the job of looking after him until he does. Why did Tsunade choose Kakashi? What happened to Iruka in the first place? Why shouldn't men in green bodysuits spoon? The answers lie within.
Resonance (21k, M)
After being hit by a missing-nin's jutsu, Kakashi's chakra is never the same again.
Pilgrim Soul (26k, E)
Shizune looks between them, eyes wide. “Tsunade-sama… Their chakra-”
Tsunade’s eye twitches. “Explain. Now.”
Second Life (28k, T)
Iruka had been having the dreams for as long as he could remember. After his parents’ death they had gone away for a time; then they’d come back with a vengeance, and he had spent the whole year he was fifteen in a haze, not sure whether he was re ally Iruka or whether he was another, younger boy who skipped stones and laughed and still had a living father.
[Fic Book Covers 5/?] The Bingo Book by @flailinginlove
Kakashi avoided relationships. He didn’t want to put others in danger. So he couldn’t understand why there was a face staring back at him, as a sub-entry to his own, in this Bingo Book. Umino Iruka (lover) the caption read. It didn’t matter that it wasn’t true. The Book was fact, and to Kakashi’s enemies, Iruka had just become a weakness they could exploit.

My fics Submitted for Approval and Spelling It Out were turned into a podfic, and it is awesome! I'm a huge audiobook listener, so having my fics turned into audio makes me ridiculously happy.
Themoabird did a great job! They have a lovely voice, and it was really fun to hear the emotion they put into their reading. And the alliterative mission reports in Spelling It Out sound perfectly insane. XD
Please go give it a listen and leave comments and kudos while you are there!
Also, I just want to say that any time someone is inspired to create something because of one of my fics (whether fanart or fanfic or translations, or now podfic for the first time), it is the absolute best feeling. Seriously, it will never stop being mind-blowingly cool when someone likes my writing enough to take the time to do any of that. And even just knowing that people like my fics enough to reread them multiple times or that reading one of my fics has made their day better, all that's amazing too. It makes me so thankful. You are all very awesome, and I hope you continue to enjoy and be inspired by my fics in the future. 💖
I didn’t realize people did fic recs like this, so this was super fun to listen to! Thank you! I'm glad you liked it so much. *__*
And I also think that Nights in the title should be drawn out, but my headcanon is that it's like the Aladdin song. Icha Icha NIIIIIGHTSSS, like Icha Icha DAAAYYYYSSS! (more often than not, are hotter than hot, in a lot of good ways. :x)
did another challenge with @animetrashmuffin where we both had to draw sukea 👀📝 we also both ended up doing fanart for fics & i did mine for @flailinginlove with this one (nsfw content beware) as an exercise in comics !
We are very thankfully nearing the end of 2020. 🎉 I hope you and all your loved ones made it through safely. It has been a long ass year. 😓
I'm starting 2021 with a much needed social media detox, with tumblr being the first on the chopping block. From January 1st, this tumblr will be closed for the foreseeable future.
If you need to get in touch for any reason, you are welcome to drop a comment on one of my fics. I will still be getting notifications from AO3. So don't hesitate to reach out! Particularly if you want to translate one of my fics or you make fanart inspired by one of them, please definitely let me know!
(Edited Jan 2024: Due to new gmail and yahoo mail rules, I can no longer send this newsletter using a free account, so it is basically dead. Please follow my AO3 account to receive notifications if I ever post any new fics) And if you are one of the few people who are here for updates on my writing, I've set up a mailing list. I have no idea if anyone is interested in joining, but I thought it would be a fun thing to try. I'm going to be sending out occasional emails with updates on what I'm currently writing and one or two sneak peeks. In January, I'm planning to include the first scene (about 2k words) of the long fic I've been working on. I will not spam your email and you can unsubscribe at anytime, but if you'd like me to deliver a monthly dose of 🍆KakaIru🐬 Icha Icha 📙 to your inbox, please subscribe!
You can find the sign up form here!
(If you do sign up, you should get a confirmation email. Check your spam if it doesn’t show up in your inbox.)
Happy Holidays! Happy New Year! Take care and stay safe! 💖
@ladyxxdaydream tagged me to do a year end fic meme where you post a sentence from what you were working on each month, but I tend to work on things over a stupid amount of time so picking a fic for each month is hard. So instead, I’m blowing the dust off a very old year end fic meme that I did ages ago and tagging her back as well as our fellow The Perks of Promotion writers (@tea-blitz, @camilita-ita-ita, @hexadecimal00, and @illupocattivo) and anyone else who wants to do it!
What I posted this year:
Experience Is the Second Best Teacher - 1,875 words, teen and up - Iruka’s students just want him to be happy.
Idle Husbands Are the Devil’s Workshop - 988 words, teen and up - Kakashi and retirement are a match made in Naruto’s own personal hell.
book lovers never go to bed alone - 631 words, teen and up - Kakashi picks up more than just a book.
Two of a Kind - 1,321 words, teen and up - Kakashi reveals his past to Iruka.
Icha Icha Nights - 50,149 words, explicit - 1,001 Nights inspired KakaIru.
touch you, that is all - 13,295 words, explicit - Iruka gets hit by a jutsu just before his birthday.
The Five Nations Games (Speedo Verse part 1) - 401 words, general - Kakashi chose the wrong sport.
The Closing Ceremony (Speedo Verse part 2) - 1,465 words, teen and up - Iruka appreciates Kakashi’s athletic abilities.
Anything You Want - 3,406 words, mature - Iruka surprises Kakashi for his birthday.
The Perks of Promotion - 5,000ish words in my chapters, teen and up - Choose your own KakaIru!
There’s a slight chance I might finish something else before the year is up, but not holding my breath for it. So that’s about 78,500 words posted this year. I’m happy with that!
Overall Thoughts:
Did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted?
A little less. I was hoping to post at least 12 fics this year.
What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January?
It’s not finished, but I have a super smutty KakaIruYama fic in the works.
What's your own favorite story of the year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you happiest.
The Perks of Promotion! I’m really happy I finally got to do a choose your own KakaIru fic and it was so much fun to plan!
Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them?
I signed up for Milwordy towards the end of the year. :o And started tracking my writing more, so I’m in the process of learning how long it really takes me to write something and how much I really write in a month.
Do you have any fanfic or original fic goals for the New Year?
Yes! Too many for this post! XD But let’s just say posting another 10+ fics/75k+ words would be awesome.
The Superlatives:
Best story: I think I’m most proud of Icha Icha Nights, so we’ll go with that.
Most popular story: If we go by hits or bookmarks, Icha Icha Nights. Experience Is the Second Best Teacher if we go by kudos.
Story most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion: If we go by kudos, The Perks of Promotion, but that just got posted so obviously it’s going to have the lowest.
Most fun to write: The Five Nations Games & The Closing Ceremony. It’s a ridiculous universe and I love it.
Hardest to write: Probably Icha Icha Nights just because of its length.
Story with the sexiest moment: I love KakaIru trying not to kiss at the beginning of Two of a Kind.
Story with the most "Holy crap, that's wrong" moment: Probably the sex in touch you, that is all. XD;;
Biggest disappointment: Not finishing the long fic I’m currently working on before the end of the year. :( But hopefully I will start posting by spring.
Biggest surprise: book lovers never go to bed alone because I had no idea where I wanted to go with “adventure” as the starting word.
Most unintentionally telling story: Maybe Anything You Want? Because I love me some trashy, sappy romance. XD;
I hope you all hit your writing goals this year! And I wish you a wonderfully creative 2021!
The Speedo Verse has been translated into Russian! This means 9 of my 35 posted fics now have Russian translations (plus one into Chinese)! That will never stop being awesome. Thank you so much to all the Russian translators out there! You all are amazing! 💖 💖 💖

KakaIru Month will run from May 1st to May 31st, 2021! Every day there will be two prompts that we hope will inspire you to create new KakaIru fanworks. Check out our website for more information in English, 日本語, 한국어, 中文, русский, & Español!
We hope you’ll participate and that there will be a lot of amazing fic, art, and other fanworks created to celebrate KakaIru during the month of May!
Helping set this up was my last fandom event type thing. It was super cool to work with translators and find ways to work around cultural differences that cause miscommunications in the various parts of the worldwide KakaIru fandom. I really hope you all will participate in it and enjoy the event! <3
