coranathema:
“It does?”
Cora’s eyebrows knitted together as she tried to comprehend just exactly what her fellow Elite was saying. On one hand, it did seem trivial now that she thought about it; he was, indeed, a grown-up, and Cora had more pressing things to worry about than what he did with his free time.
On the other…
“I just worry about him sometimes, Olivia.” Her voice dropped several decibels, as if she didn’t want Iggy to hear from miles away that the usually sour Fairy specialist did have a heart after all. “It’s hard enough to be in such a high position of power, but with the way he conducts himself? It’s as if it doesn’t mean anything to him.”
It frustrated her to watch Iggy cavort around as he did, cigarette dangling from mouth and all. Part of her wished she could afford to be as careless as he seemed to be.
Part of her didn’t think she could.
“ I know. ” It was tough for Liv to vocalize things sometimes, but she could tell how much it pained Cora to see him acting that way, and knew how much it just ate her up inside. By asking her to take a step back, Liv was really hoping that the woman would be able to just go easier on herself in result -- but obviously, Iggy wasn’t making things any better. “ He’s so shut away from it all that he might not even realize it when there’s a camera or a reporter, or some impressionable kid. ”
It’s something the Elite Four have in common; they’ve all worked so hard to get to where they are now. It took some tough trials for Liv herself to get to a high point in her life, but it’s easily different for the Champion. “ He’s comfortable, so . . . nothing will really matter to him unless someone can stand to take his title. ”
maldxctumbellus:
Souya panics, Blaise up to his usual antics, though this time forcefully asking his trainer to play hide and seek in a forest both were unfamiliar with. ❛ Blaise! come back! ❜ he shouts, watching helplessly as his old friend disappears into the trees. Suddenly a voice catches the hex maniac’s attention.
❛ Y-you would?–!! ❜ He’s stunned. It’s an Elite Four member! ❛ I-I-I-I mean, it would help greatly, I’ve never been in this forest before and it seems my friend wouldn’t come home until I play hide and seek with him….. b-b-b-but you really needn’t trouble yourself! ❜ he stammers out, contradicting himself, waving his hands in panic.
“ No trouble, ” she told him calmly; she’d almost forgotten herself, visibly confused as to why he might be the least bit nervous. But what sort of person would she had been if she only stood by and did nothing? Too often had she allowed certain things to transpire when she could have easily stepped in to intervene -- Liv wasn’t going to let herself continue to be that sort of person.
Started heading off in the direction she’d last seen the Pokemon, and motioned for him to follow. “ I think he went this way. ” A pause, and Liv hoped she could try to put Souya’s mind at ease while they looked. It wasn’t every day that someone from the Elite Four decided to help out a stranger out of the blue -- though arguably, this should’ve been done more often. “ My Chandelure will pull these stunts once in a while, too. ”
wranglepoison:
Not often did the poison leader find guests at their door; only trainers passing by to test their skills, gain their badge, and continue on with their adventure. Not that Ike wasn’t pleasantly surprised when a knock came from the gym’s threshold, but they found themselves a tad unsure of who in all of Agron could it be–trainers didn’t typically have such polite manners, often bursting in with little to no announcement and forcing the wrangler up and off their backside.
This, though, seemed different–or at the very least, they had no need to prepare for battle, and allowed the Pokemon out of their capsules to continue their rest and play among the gym’s stadium.
“Uh–comin’!”
Voice rings out, muffled by adorned mask, but with hurried steps Ike wastes little time before unlatching the locks they’d set in for the night, and peering between the double-doors. Muzzle of mask sticks out, likely looking a tad silly as they stared down their own nose to take in the familiarity of one of the League’s finest.
“–What’re one’a the four doin’ ‘ere, at my Gym? I haven’t caused no ruckus with ya’ll, have I?”
Liv wasn’t completely sure of what to expect stepping in to the Gym. She remembered battling her way through them years ago, but they often change ownership over the years. Couldn’t quite understand why she was so nervous about it now, palms beginning to sweat; figured maybe it’s just something about Poison types. But she knew, she was sure she would be in fair and pleasant company -- no reason to turn away from one of Agron’s Elite Four, right?
Maintaining at least somewhat of a professional air about her, Liv approached quickly, but stopped short just before the set of double doors. Somewhat taken aback by a man in a mask, but recovering quickly, she attempted to give some semblance of a smile.
“ Hm? Oh, no -- ” Shook her head in reply, hoping to reassure quickly that there was absolutely no trouble. “ I’m here out of . . . curiosity? ” That was essentially it, after all, though she supposed she should try to make it seem less like a mission she was on. “ And, um, I don’t know you Gym Leaders all that well -- is this a bad time? ”
voltrider:
thyra loved to put on a show, it pushed her challengers out of their comfort zone and threw them into the spotlight - if they couldn’t handle a crowd like this they wouldn’t be able to handle the crowd of a champion match.
the music blares and the crowd roars, they want a scrap tonight - and the challenger brings it, he’s an overly-cocky teen who could do with having a slice of humble pie, so thyra delivers - she announces a doubles battle last minute and sends out both of her toxtricitys; cherry & jett.
needless to say, they steal the show and the trainer is left ranting and raging. some food is offered as well as a chance to come back when he gets a little stronger and it easily pacifies him.
her team and sent upstairs to rest up and it’s only then does thyra notices an elite league member in her gym.
“ liv paquet! “
she jumps down from the stage, a towel is already around her neck from the sweat she built up - she likes to be just as active as her team during battles.
“ the fiery fist of the league, what do i owe the pleasure? “
“ i’d offer ta’ shake your hand but i’m a little sweaty right now - you like the show? bet it doesn’t get your heart beatin’ nearly as much as your own battles, though! “ a hearty laugh escapes and she nods, agreeing with her own statement.
“ you up for some fun? “
Eyes widen, surprised still to hear her name; to have been considered a prodigy at the time of her induction to the Elite Four, of course her name is well known at this point. Liv guessed she still wasn’t used to it. But accepting of it, at least. Liv cracked a small but rare smile at the gym leader as she approached.
“ Oh, I was just uh, in town for a bit. It looked like your gym was the place to be -- and I like getting a glimpse of future opponents every now and then. ” Easy to forget how much grander of a production the gyms seemed to be these days; made her think about sprucing up her own space, cranking the fire so to speak. “ Fighting in the League is pretty intense though . . . I’m usually sweating by the end of the day. ”
She’d been so strictly business about things lately, though, and was simply trying out something she’d thought would’ve been fun. And it was! Don’t get her wrong, but it was easy to fall back into old habit.
“ Fun? ” Exactly what the doctor ordered, though, she couldn’t help but be a bit apprehensive, wondering what Thyra had in mind. “ What kind of fun? ”
Maybe at this point she’d just been drawn to the action of it all; not often drifting from the League for reasons that weren’t purely recreational, Liv found herself in Kenyte City for the night - and well, rants and raves about the gym there seemed to draw her in easily. Came as no surprise to find the Electric-type gym so teeming with sound, with a hefty number of spectators; as much as Liv could do without the crowds that gyms typically drew in, she’d admit that it added to the thrill of the sport - something that was admittedly lost at times at the League.
The match had ended in a loss for the challenger - upsetting to see, but a part of the sport none the less - and Liv had decided to wait for the remainder of the crowd to move along before making her way toward the gym floor.
“ That was quite a show you put on, ” she said, aiming to grab Thyra’s attention quickly.
🔥 @voltrider
“ Do you . . . want something to drink? ” It almost seemed rude not to ask, her own fingers curling around a fresh, warm cup of coffee. Liv didn’t know how long she’d have to wait here anyway; she only assumed Lillian was here to see Iggy, and they knew as good as anyone how long those matches of his can take. No reason for her to not be a little hospitable. At least she could fill the silence with small talk. “ We have coffee, tea . . . hot chocolate . . . ”

Mystical Fire
If it’s one thing that she’ll take interest in, one could easily guess it’s Fire types. What started as a phase had easily blossomed into, well, a career. She’d even read up on them in her spare time, and by read up she obviously meant spending a lot of her downtime just scrolling through info on web pages, news articles, et cetera. It had been in her monotonous web searching that she came across a video of a local Pokemon battle; some amateur recording of some young trainers and who she’d eventually discovered to be Syenite Port’s Gym Leader. What had captured her interest, naturally, was the striking beast they used to smoke the trainer out -- a Salazzle.
She’d never seen one in person, only heard of them coming from some distant land. Liv was intrigued, and as much as it may pain her jump through social acrobatics to perhaps catch a real glimpse at the beast -- she supposed maybe she could actually try to make an acquaintance out of it.
Couldn’t remember the last time she’d traveled this far out from the League; it’d been a while, and while she recognized spaces it still all seemed so new. Fortunately, the Gym was exactly where she’d remembered it being.
Three knocks on the door, and she stepped inside.
🔥 @wranglepoison
“ You aren’t hurt, are you? ” She’d grabbed her Houndoom right by the horns, and he struggled and twitched out of a natural reaction to restraint, but Liv seemed fairly unfazed by it. Used to it. What worried her more was that the hot-headed fire type had hurt the other or his Pokemon in any type of way. It wasn’t intentional. Liv struggled -- but managed -- to reach for his Poke ball and recall him, before he had a chance to try lunging at them again.
“ He’s not -- ” Was going to say he wasn’t normally like this, but quite the contrary. She’d trained with him for ages to develop a bond forged through trust, but he still needed to work on trusting someone other than his trainer. “ We’re working on it. ”
🔥 @frostyfrosten
“ I think you may have lost something. ” It was the first thing she’d said to him, and partially just in passing. Maybe she was just making an assumption. But still, a finger pointed in the direction of a certain translucent Pokemon; nearly vanishing between a set of old trees. No stranger to wandering Pokemon, she guessed she couldn’t help but feel a little sorry for it. If it had been any other point in her life, she would’ve just continued on -- given her position though, she’d ask a question a past self would have regretted. “ Do you need help? ”
🔥 @maldxctumbellus
“ I don’t know, Cora . . . ” As much as she would’ve sided with her fellow Elite Four member on any other matter, this in particular didn’t seem like something she should be wasting her time on. “ I mean -- yeah, he probably shouldn’t be doing it in front of the kids. But they’re all going to try it at some point anyway. ” Thoughts drifted to her own youth, spending late nights chain smoking behind the Pokemon Center; she wouldn’t bring it up though. Would’ve been just as bad of an influence herself it she’d still carried on half of the habits she had when she was ten. The point she was trying to make, though, she wasn’t doing much of a good job getting it across, was that they’ll learn to give it up eventually -- or, just end up like Iggy, who was, admittedly, a hot mess. “ It just sounds like you’re trying to get him to promote some anti-smoking campaign that’s never going to happen. ”
