⯠RAISING AN EYEBROW, JOSEPHINE GIGGLED.Ā āĀ it seems fitting? ā she questioned and looked at him with a curious expression on her face.Ā ā how so? ā she asked, genuinely curious as to what he would respond with. yeah, i meet some of towns more... interesting types.Ā ā ohh, i can imagine, ā she said and laughed, moving to run her fingers through her wet hair, which was slowly starting to dry.Ā ā do you like it? i mean, your job...? was it what you wanted when you were younger or did you have some grand plan that you didnāt get to do? ā she asked and turned her body fully towards the man.Ā
ofsebsā:
āoh, like that makes it any better.ā seb teased, laughing softly with a soft shake of the head. āwell, she loves to come here. i think itās one of her favorite places.ā he chuckled, smiling a bit. āweāre really good. sheās just starting school again and iām working on keeping the b&b up and running. pretty much the same old thing.ā he nodded, glancing over to where his daughter was skimming over the books, eyes bright. āyou need any help with anything while im here?ā
āÆĀ HEARING SEBASTIAN SAY THAT HER STOREĀ was one of gracieās favorite places warmed the womanās heart. it made her unbelievablyĀ happy to know that people cared as much for books as she did growing up āā especially a little girl like gracie.Ā ā that makes me really happy to hear, ā she said and smiled softly towards him. tilting her head a little to the side, josephine smiled as he said that they were good and how he was working on keeping the b&b up and running.Ā ā iām sure youāre doing a great job, love. i need to come and see the place, ā she said and giggled gently. glancing over towards where gracie was, she let a soft laugh escape her lips.Ā ā she reminds me so much about myself, you know. i was the same when i was younger, ā she said and laughed, brushing her hair away.Ā ā uhh, no. iām good, thank you. do you want some coffee, seb? gracie, do you want a milkshake? ā
ofsebsā:
the smaller girl always loved saturday mornings. it was the time that she and her father would race from their b&b down to the small book shop. gracie would come home with mountains of books that she would read and eventually make them a home in her bookcase. the girl darted ahead of her dad, taking advantage of the head start he technically hadnāt given her. sebastian raced after his daughter, the two laughing about how it was or wasnāt fair. as gracie darted into the book store, seb allowed himself to slow down and catch his breath. he made it into the shop, leaning against the door. āiām old and she cheated.ā he spoke up, small chuckle on his lips. āgo pick out your books, bug.ā seb smiled over at the other. āhow are ya, josephine?ā
āÆĀ ā OH COME ON,Ā youāre not thatĀ old, youāre just slow, ā she said and stuck her tongue out at sebastian with a teasing smile on her lips as she looked at gracie who was smiling brightly at her. go pick out your books, bug.Ā ā go on, ā josephine spoke and nodded, biting her bottom lip as she watched the little girl run off and over to where the bookshelves were. turning around, she looked at sebastian and smiled.Ā ā iām good, thank you. much better now that your little munchkin is here, ā she said and giggled softly, moving her hand to her face and brushing her hair away from her face.Ā ā what about you two? how are you guys? ā
antmercierā:
āOh really?ā Ant cocked his head to one side, sawing a french fry in half with his fork. He refused to eat with his hands; or rather, his etiquette refused.Ā āWhatās it called? And howād you get into that? Er, sorry, donāt let me interrupt your eating.ā he was known for a barrage of questions and tried to tone it down a bit.Ā
āI really hope so. Otherwise, Iām in for a rude awakening. You know, the Apple store offers little classes on how-to do things, and Iām busy, but I thought⦠well I thought it might be worth my time. I donāt want her to know Iām going because thatās a little⦠lame, but maybe Iād at least know how to use my phone without looking like an imbecile.ā he laughed, sipping again from his water glass and admiring the pattern made on the table by years of water rings before him. Another flush made its way across his cheeks and he nodded.Ā āYeah, Iāve⦠like I said, old-fashioned. I was more⦠horseback riding and Latin lessons,ā he laughed.Ā āI would love to join you next time.ā
āÆĀ IT WAS PRETTY OBVIOUSĀ that the two of them were pretty different when it came to things like eating hamburgers. the female chuckled softly and she reached down and took a bite of the burger while keeping her eyes trained on the male sitting opposite of her. whatās it called? and howād you get into that?Ā laughing softly, josephine shook her head and waved her hand around as in a way to brush it off.Ā ā donāt worry about it. and itās called once upon a book,Ā ā she said and smiled proudly at the name.Ā ā and... honestly, i just always loved to read and getting lost in different stories. i wanted to be a princess, i wanted to be a dragon slayer and... thereās just something about being able to be whoever you want. ā
āÆĀ ā THAT IS NOT AT ALL LAME.Ā thatās actually really sweet, ā josephine spoke and smiled at how much work antoni seemed to put into it all.Ā ā and donāt worry, your secret is safe with me, ā josephine spoke and winked as she grabbed a couple of the fries, dumping them into the ketchup that she had put on the side of the plate, before putting them in her mouth.Ā ā you know latin? wow, thatās impressive. and you are absolutely coming with me! ā
antmercierā:
Antoni brought a bite of burger to his mouth, chewing thoughtfully as he listened to Josephine speak. He really did like her already; she seemed to get things.Ā āForgive me,ā he said after a long moment.Ā āBut Iām not sure Iāve asked you what you do. Iām sure youāve found somewhere better suited to your talents than nursing. Everyoneās got their thing.āĀ
He thought that over, tilting his head from side to side.Ā āI donāt know⦠I just⦠I guess so. Maybe she doesnāt care, but like youāve seen, sheās very up to date,ā he gestured in the air with his free hand, stabbing another piece of burger with the fork held in the other.Ā āAnd Iām just not. My family isnāt into technology. Iām thirty-four and I only got a phone five years ago.ā he laughed.Ā āIn my home back in Italy, we just donāt bother with those things. I think Iāve only been bowling one time⦠and I guess Iāll have to get creative.ā
⯠WATCHING ANTONI TAKE A BITE OF THE BURGER,Ā josephine did the same, swallowing it back and letting it slide down the back of her throat. forgive me. but iām not sure iāve asked you what you do. iām sure youāve found somewhere better suited to your talents than nursing.Ā she laughed softly and took another bite, swallowing it back before answering his question.Ā ā i own a bookstore downtown, actually. well, itās a bookstore and cafĆØ kind of thing? you can buy a book and sit and read it while you enjoy a hot chocolate or whatever your heart desires, ā she said and smiled proudly of it.Ā
āÆĀ āĀ Ā I GUESS THATāS MY THING,Ā ā she said and laughed softly. josephine nodded and kept her gaze locked with antoni as he sat opposite of her.Ā ā believe me, she doesnāt care if you know what snapchat or instagram is, as long as you genuinely sound interested in what sheās talking about, seeing as social media is her job, and wants to know more, then i think youāre good, ā she spoke honestly, shrugging her shoulders in the process.Ā ā well, internet isnāt for anyone. thereās nothing bad about that, ā she said and a soft chuckle escaped her lips as he said he had just recently a couple of years ago, gotten his first phone.Ā ā wait, ā she said and put her fork and knives down on the table. leaning forward, she stared at him with a shocked expression on her face.Ā ā you āā you have only bowled onceĀ in your life?Ā oh my god, i love bowling. you are coming with me next time, iām just saying. ā
antmercierā:
āHa,ā he shrugged, watching gratefully as their food was placed in front of them. Antoni thanked their waitress and pulled a napkin from the dispenser to lay on his lap. He cut the burger lengthwise before slicing off a bite-sized piece.Ā āSurprisingly, I used to be pretty accident-prone,ā Ant laughed.Ā āBut I figured it would help to know how to patch myself up.ā
āI know, I know, too old isnāt really a thing here anymore, but Iām just worried Iām not modern enough for her. My family is⦠kind of old-fashioned,ā he admitted, wishing he could tell her the half of it.Ā āDefinitely. What do you all do for fun? I ask because, well⦠I donāt know that I know what Clair likes to do outside of video-making. We havenāt quite gotten that far.ā
⯠AS THEIR FOOD WAS PLACED on the table in front of them, josephine smiled at the waitress gratefully and she watched as antoni thanked her and pulled a napkin from the dispenser to lay it down on his lap. tilting her head a little to the side, the blonde let a soft and gentle giggle escape her lips as she did the same thing. surprisingly, i used to be pretty accident-prone. but i figured i would help to know how to patch myself up.Ā ā good idea, ā she said and giggled softly.Ā ā maybe thatās what i should have done. maybe i should have become a nurse or something instead, ā she said and shook her head softly.Ā
āÆĀ ā DO YOU THINK SHE REALLY CARES?Ā i mean, if she likes you, she wonāt care if youāre not too modern or whatever. itās about whether you make her happy and she makes you happy. trust me, sheās probably not even thought about it once. itās just youāre thinking about it, ā josephine said and took a bite of the burger.Ā ā and, just what do you mean by old-fashioned? ā she asked curiously while taking another bite of the burger. ā well, thereās not that much to do here, but... thereās a bowling alley not too far away from here? thatās pretty fun. if you like bowling of course. and, you know, thereās different markets. but usually, there isnāt all that much to do. you kind of have to think of something yourself. try and come up with something. play cards, go swimming... stuff like that. ā

leo shook his head a little at that. it wasnāt okay. he knew deep down that it wasnāt okay. there was no justification for ignoring anyone, let alone her. he took a deep breath, moving to set the box down on the ground as she stepped towards him again. the last thing he wanted was to drop it again.Ā āyeah,ā he let out gently as she said his name, looking down at her intently as her hand came to rest on his shoulder. if only it were that easy to talk to someone about it all. he knew deep down, though, he couldnāt talk about it. he just couldnāt. he took a deep breath, giving her a small nod.Ā āyeah, iām sorry.ā he let out again, knowing that she was only telling the truth.Ā āiāll be okay. just needed a few days to get my head straight.ā
āÆJOSEPHINE FELT HER HEART ACHE AT THE LOOKĀ on leonardoās face. it was obvious that he was struggling with whatever it was and that he was in pain. and god, did she wish he felt comfortable enough or trusted her enough, to tell her what was going on. but, she wasnāt going to turn her back on him, though. no way. iām sorry. iāll be okay. just needed a few days to get my head straight.Ā looking at him, she couldnāt help but feel like that wasnāt the truth.Ā ā okay, um, if youāre sure? ā she said, keeping her eyes locked on him. she knew that, he needed to come and talk to her. thatās how this would work. she couldnāt pressure him into anything.Ā ā do you want to come over tonight? I thought i could make lasagna? ā she said and smiled at him with a warm expression on hr lips.Ā ā we could watch a movie together or something? maybe you could, uhh, stay the night? ā

lconardosā:
even despite leo not being around near as much as he should have after their night together, here she was, still treating him the same. he didnāt deserve it. god, he knew now that he absolutely didnāt deserve it. he placed the box under his arm as she stepped towards him, shaking his head a little at her words.Ā āiām sorry,ā he immediately responded.Ā āi just uh, i havenāt been in the best place lately. didnāt want you to deal with that.ā he let out, shrugging his shoulders a little.Ā
āÆĀ ā ITāS OKAY,Ā ā josephine spoke quietly and softly, keeping her eyes trained on him ash e placed the box under his arm as he had stepped forward. i just uh, i havenāt been in the best place lately. didnāt want you to deal with that.Ā ā leo, babe... ā swallowing against the lump in her throat, she shook her head and walked over to him. putting her hand carefully on top of leonardoās shoulder, she squeezed it softly before tilting her head a little to the side.Ā ā i āā whatever it is that youāre going through, i want you to know that iām here for you. iām going to be there for you, if you ever feel the need to talk to me about whatever is going on in your head. ā taking a deep breath, josephine moved her hand to his face and gently caressed his cheekbone with her thumb moving across the skin.Ā ā hey, i REALLY DID MISS YOU.Ā ā

⯠JOSEPHINE HAD JUST OPENEDĀ the bookstore and she was cleaning the floor as it was a quiet morning with not a lot of people stopping by. the radio was playing quiet songs in the background and she hummed and moved around with the mop to the beat. ā iām sorry if i never say, truly how i feel. well let me take this chance today, to finally be real, so mum and dad, my sister too, and my girl i hope you know, that i do love you āā ā she sang along with the music, when the front door of the building opened and the sound of the bell rang throughout the small room, causing her to jump a little bit. as she turned around to see who it was, her smile widened as she leaned against the body of the mop.Ā ā oh my ā you scared me, ā she said and laughed as she covered her chest, where the heart was placed, with the palm of her hand. sitting down on her knees, she held her arms open wide so the little girl could give her a hug. as she hugged her tightly, josephine pulled back and looked at the little girl,Ā ā so... whereās your dad, huh? did you OUTRUN HIM AGAIN? āĀ
antmercierā:
Antoni was simultaneously embarrassed and not ashamed at all of his lack of technological knowledge. But what made him blush was Josephineās acknowledgment of his love for Clair; he hadnāt known it was that obvious.Ā āThatās very nice of you to say. Iām a good luck charm if you need medical assistance, but thatās about it.ā Ant laughed, one hand on the table playing with the condensation that fell from his glass of water.
āHey now,ā he said, hands up and feigning innocence.Ā āI know we havenāt known each other long, but I swear Iām reliable. I try to show up.ā Ant laughed.Ā āReally? Yeah, sure. I think she would like to go out with some other people. She would never say this, but Iām a little old for her.ā he flushed again.Ā āSo I am trying to not bore her too much.ā
āÆĀ ā WELL, THAT IS GOOD TO KNOW, ā josephine said and giggled at what antoni said about being a good luck charm if she ever needed medical assistance.Ā ā and now, at least i know who to call if i ever fall and hurt myself or something ridiculous like that, which is a high possibility of happening because iām ACCIDENT PRONE, ā she said and laughed softly, brushing her hair away from her face in the process.Ā
āÆĀ JOSEPHINE LAUGHED SOFTLY AND NODDED.Ā ā okay, iāll believe you then, ā she said, obviously teasing the male a little bit. she was glad she had met antoni āā she needed more friends around treeville.Ā she would never say this, but iām a little old for her. so i am trying to not bore her too much.Ā ā oh, come on. youāre not TOO OLD for her, silly. but yes, itās a date. iāll talk to leonardo next time i see him and maybe we could figure something out. ā
lconardosā:
leo kneeled down to begin cleaning up the mess, although the voice that followed the bell indicating that someone had come in was enough to make him freeze in place. josephine. he closed his eyes as he listened to her, cursing gently under his breath. truth was, leo had been having a hard time dealing with, well, everything. the best way he knew how to deal with any of that was shutting everyone out, too. her included. he figured everyone else would just be better off, honestly. he cleared his throat, hands making quick work of picking everything up before he placed it all back into the box. he rose to his feet slowly,Ā āhey, j,ā he let out gently, unsure as to where to begin. an apology would be a good start. he pushed a hand through his hair and no words followed.Ā
⯠JOSEPHINE WAITED FOR LEOĀ to put everything away, and when he rose to his feet, a soft giggle fell from her lips at the sound of his voice.Ā ā hey, ā she whispered, tilting her head a little to the side as she watched his every move. licking her lips absentmindedly, josephine wanted soĀ DESPERATELY TO KNOWĀ whatās going on with him, as there was clearly a lot going on in his head. when he pushed a hand through his hair and no words followed, she decided to take the next step. ā iāve missed you... ā
lconardosā:
āfuck,ā leo let out in a huff as the boxes heād been so desperately trying to balance went toppling out of his arms and to the floor. he should have known better. that taking shortcuts wouldnāt get him ahead even slightly. they never had and yet, he still took them every chance he got. typical. it was then that he heard the front door open, the time being more than enough to make him sigh softly.Ā āhey, weāre closed!ā he called out as he leaned down to begin cleaning up the mess. to be fair, they had five minutes to close but leo wasnāt going to tell them that.Ā
AS JOSEPHINE HADNāT SEEN LEONARDOĀ IN WHATĀ felt like forever, she went to the vinyl shop, in hopes to find him there. she was worried about him. it seemed like he had a lot on his mind. as she opened the door and walked into the vinyl shop, the sound of the bell announced her arrival and once she entered the room, she heard the familiar voice she had longed to hear. hey, weāre closed.Ā ā oh, iām really sorry, mister. i just wanted to check if this cute guy who works here, and is also in a band on his spare time, is in. i havenāt seen him in a while and i thought iād stop by and hopefully catch a quick look of him, ā she said and chuckled softly as she walked over to the counter and leaned against it.Ā ā i believe his name is leo? and he has this cute smile and hazel eyes? would you happen to know where i can find him? ā
