* & – nana komatsu, demigirl, she/they. it seems like kira yukimura has been seen around town, humming haunted by laura les under their breath. apparently they are a 24 year old kitsune. townsfolk whisper about them being charming and loyal, but also quiet and maladroit. they are an assistant teacher at forks high school, and they have been in forks for 12 years.

childhood/family life: born and raised in the hustle and bustle of new york city, kira was a rather bubbly child. she made friends with ease and everyone seemed to have nice things to say about them. they excelled in school, particularly history, a subject her father taught at columbia university for many years — until suddenly they dropped everything and moved all the way across the country to forks, a small town in the pacific northwest where she couldn’t fathom fitting in. this manifested rather quickly within them; where once socializing came with ease, it was now a knife that twisted deep every time she tried to introduce herself to anyone without a stutter or misspeak. this isolated them, a child of only twelve, and she couldn’t seem to break free of the shell she’d been trapped in as a result of the drastic change. it wasn’t until she was taking photos with the flash on one night and noticed a fiery aura surrounding her that they began questioning more than just their social standing. years went by and kira didn’t inquire anyone about this, as she’d still been a shut-in terrified of negative feedback. acquainting scott mccall in high school was the only reason they got any answers to who they were, as he encouraged them to talk to their parents about any concerns she had. taking his advice, she confronted her parents, which then inspired the truth out of her mother: she was a thunder kitsune, harboring an ancient fox spirit that contained powers yet untapped. after staving for weeks over books detailing her affliction, they finally started to accept help and open up more about being a kitsune, regaining the voice they’d lost upon first moving to washington state.

life has been kind to kira thus far; while she still can present as standoffish to those she isn’t accustomed to, she’s much more extraverted than they used to be in high school. following in their father’s footsteps, they attended columbia university and studied history before returning to forks a year ago so they could take up an assistant teacher position at the local high school. since then, she’s gotten much sharper street smarts and is leagues better at controlling her heightened abilities, as well as general combat. in school — they’re your run-of-the-mill person that doesn’t interfere much with the lives of others aside from assigning homework, which is just the way she likes it. ( not like a bunch of high schoolers are in the need to know about her belt, that’s actually a katana ) although recently she’s felt a shift in her comfort zone. her fox spirit seems to be rebelling against them openly, and for once they can’t pinpoint why.

the thunder kitsune heard many a rumor of a certain supernatural ritual in forks —— that took precedence during thunderstorms at that, which would prove incredibly beneficial to someone who could openly manipulate the elements that rolled underneath their feet and shot gloriously bright above their heads. she wondered, succinctly, if it would’ve been a fair match at all. alas, they were desperate for an opportunity to exert their heightened abilities that had underwent horrid disuse following her hasty move across the country; spending the preceding twelve months unpacking their new york life and reorganizing it where she truly belonged in washington. “maybe it’d be best if i pitched first,” kira’s voice echoed across the open field, mildly impressed by the speeds she figured she could easily match even out of practice. “wouldn’t want to put anyone at a disadvantage so early on in the game.”

erica liked her job, more or less. sure, there was the endless organization to be done (made all the harder when certain customers would put books in random shelves), the customer service aspect of the job wasn’t always her favorite, but nonetheless, it was nice to feel like she was serving her community. 

she was working on reorganizing a shelf as a familiar face made an appearance, flocked by high schoolers, who almost immediately disappeared to do their own thing.

kira yukimura was someone erica had been rather aware of in high school. she was beautiful, of course, but there was more than that. she was kind, if quiet in their school days. being in different years meant they didn’t have a terrible lot of classes together, limiting their interaction, but that didn’t matter. erica was more than content to admire from afar at the time. 

now, though, things were different. she got the chance to see her every so often, and she always enjoyed their conversation, finding kira charming, funny, and bright. 

she greeted the teacher with a smile as she finished stocking the lgbt+ fiction shelf. “hey, nice to see you. it’s been a while,” she commented, her tone friendly. “did you have a minute? we could grab a coffee or tea from the staff room, if you’re available.”

upon being accepted to columbia, her father’s alumni, kira naturally assumed she’d had a similar knack for what he did —— the classes were brutal, despite having registered as a major that didn’t appear all that frightening to the layman, but the kitsune persevered and would eventually resurface from the trenches of warfare that is an undergrad with a degree in history that made them fit for an open assistant teacher role in forks. 

so, for the second time in her life, they packed their rather small new york life up in a carry-on and a backpack and trekked across the country to the comfortable ( if not slightly claustrophobic ) corner of the pacific northwest where her parents still resided.

returning to forks only a year ago had triggered a sudden influx of memories of her youth spent in the quiet town, where she often felt outcast. if it weren’t for people like erica reyes, kira couldn’t say they’d have much of an interest in making a grand comeback after all.

admittedly, they had a crush on the human in their youth, and whenever they stepped off the plane and assumed their position at forks high school, carting along their students to the library and for the first time in years seeing erica again —— she realized that crush never truly fizzled out.

“i know. it’s like pulling teeth, getting these kids down here,” kira joked as she eyed the section that the librarian was stocking. her own sexuality was always a point of contention. they knew that they’d never truly been attracted to boys, but the gradual realization that she was only fond of women’s company still left her a bit befuddled. “‘course, yeah. i’ve got them all reading passages about the revolutionary war, so i’ve got plenty of time. considering i don’t have to break up any fights.”
