I am guessing we all remember this scene... but what about this tie?

Well...

Let me cast your minds back to Whine Club, 7.17. Remember when Niles was having a good day and looking forward to his wine club, and Mel made him change his tie and jacket. Yup. Same tie.

And when he is asked to take it off? Instant mood change.

Now, with a different tie and a darker jacket, we see it happening all over again. Niles is being forced to match up to somebody else's expectations. First Maris, and now Mel, he is being manipulated into pretending to be something he is not.

That is why, this tie is everything. It is choice. It is Niles being honest, making a decision and taking a risk, no matter the outcome, because today he chose to be brave.

in my universe frasier and lilith are both gay and autistic. lilith's autism actually vibed so well with frasier's, frasier isn't so deft with ambiguity and lilith is painfully blunt so that was never a worry.
