Hi, I/we are Eribon, also known as the Ribombee Constellation (@the-ribombee-constellation). We are 17 and a big fan of Freak Show :D (we've written over 70k words of fanfiction for it lmao). It/its pronouns for us please!

Hot take (maybe):

Mark crashout isn’t a crashout BUT POTENTIAL INTO HIS CHARACTER.

He genuinely had everyone, EVEN REV, that he was actually angry. Even if Wendy didn’t take him that seriously, it was obvious she believed that he was enraged.

In addition, Mark loves theater despite his father’s disapproval, which was mentioned in the last episode of season 1. That’s actually what had him connecting g with Harrah.

it’s obvious that Mark is the black sheep of his family judging from how one of the staff members form the Dracula family seems to constantly say negative comments. In addition, he consistently mentions his family life (neurodivergent Mark is so real/canon) and he always tries to “fit in”

Finally, Mark has mentioned that he has been through a similar situation as Rev was in episode. It could be seen as Mark experiencing “homesickness” as that’s what he “assumed” Rev had, but I don’t think that’s the case. In the last episode, Mark reveals in HIS CRASHOUT THAT THE SCHOOL ALLOWS HIM TO BE HIMSELF.

But that’s not all, I don’t just think Mark had been in the same boat as Rev, BUT I KNOW THAT MARK KNEW REV WAS/HAD BEEN IN THE SAME BOAT AS HIM.

It’s so clear that Mark is somewhat socially aware, but he doesn’t act like it, atleast, not on the surface.

Sure, Mark has shown times where he wasn’t socially aware like in episode 2 when he says “what are friend for” after getting Rev’s amulet stuck on Raven.

But then I thought about it, I mean, the whole episode was mainly about Mark trying to keep Raven alive. Why would he do that if Rev doesn’t care about her, why promise that when Rev wouldn’t care anyways?

That’s where I believe Mark knew something, knew that Rev cared about Raven more then he let on.

In addition; Mark used strategies to help ground a person from committing suicide such as relating to the person, keeping promises, etc. that promise was specifically to keep Raven alive for the whole day…

But why?

I mean, why would he keep reviving a DEAD CAT when he can so clearly just threaten to not revive her and possibly get him home. Why would he waste his time doing it when he can focus on anything else?!

That’s what I think Mark picked up on, and he even said that he knew that Rev kept reviving Raven because he was homesick- or in how I think he was trying to say- lonely.

Being homesick is an emotional distress caused by being away from home, often leading to sadness, anxiety, and loneliness

This is all I have to really say but in short: REV BETTER MAKE MARK MORE COMPLEX OR ELSE IT’LL BREAK MY DAMN HEART

Literally no one, both in canon and fandom, address the fact Sera let indirectly killed people. She was a guardian Angel that did not care about people, letting multiple people to die, LoveCraft literally said “many have died under your care” to Sera, Sera let people died because she didn’t care enough, Bella killed people but she was tricked and the people were assholes, Sera let multiple innocent people die because she didn’t care enough or was interested. I don’t hate Sera as a character and I know her whole thing is being emotionless, but literally no one in the show or fandom has mentioned this. I would’ve liked to see anyone in the show reprimanded her about this, or even acknowledge the blood on her hands, but no one did

People focus way too much on non issues like shipping and kinda lackluster writing instead of looking at the Racially Tone-Deaf Elephant in the room. cough Wendy. Lovecraft. Baba Yaga.

sera is the only one who had a good character arc. rev needs more time on his, mark had fucking nothing, and bella just got worse

Am not sure if this is a hot-take, but I believe Wendy didn’t suffer enough, people will pity Wendy and say how she was treated unfairly compare to Rev WHICH IS TRUE, but I feel like we’re forgetting that she tried to kill Rev for making her pink and for being a human. Other reasons for this take. 1, she was a bully in KADE so she wasn’t a good person already. 2, base on how she acts and what she says when Rev is revealed to be a “human” it’s implied she looks down on them heavily. 3, once again, literally tried to kill Rev for turning her pink and for being a human. Getting treated unfairly seems like a slap on the wrist, even getting erased from existence seems like the BARE MINIMUM for what she did, probably deserved worst then existence erasure since it’s likely instant and painless, which is a lot more better then being stabbed then a long metal pole through the chest. I don’t hate Wendy as a character but I do feel like people are ignoring the fact she absolutely deserve worst then what she got in the show

I find it funny(/s) how two of the three(excluding the season2 characters) fan-favorite characters are also the two WORST characters(worst as in most evil)(Wendy and Rev, no hate to them).

Yet the fandom also hates Mark and acts like he's the spawn of satan for being an annoying people-pleaser.

rev doesnt get any actual repercussions for his actions. He can be deatomized and put in a pit but it wont change that him basically bombing the school and his treatment of the other students is incredibly inhumane. Jax TADC disciple

I don’t like Bella. Like no offense to Rex or her VA, obviously, but the writing really only shows how she acts when she’s with Rev, who she has a crush on. And I don’t like Tsunderes. ok well, technically Rev is also a Tsundere but they’re two different types. Bella is more of an anime trope Tsundere with how she hits and lashes out at Rev, and Rev would be a more realistic take of someone just hiding how they feel. I don’t mind seeing people like her but it gets to a point where I can’t find any art of my favorite character because almost everyone is CONSTANTLY talking about Bella. I also have an issue with how she was deemed as more important than Sera and Mark, but when you look at how the show was originally advertised(plus the merch and some Freak Show Plays Video), those two were advertised as being more important. It’s extra noticeable with how Mark got sidelined so hard half the fandom forgets his exist(I’ve seen videos talking about the Freak Show Main Characters, and Mark only got mentioned in one of them and it wasn’t even for his own section of the video. There’s also edits “of all the main characters” and nothing for Mark at all.)

I'm lowkey getting annoyed at a lot of the Rev and Nerissa defenders.

Fuck it, I'm a Mark Defender now. He did nothing wrong, he's a people pleaser and Rev never set any boundaries with him until the last episode. Rex from Wishbook is more annoying.

Confession:

I don’t like how the fandom treats Mark. Like, ok, let me explain. Most fans tend to infantilize him, if they even acknowledge him. Mark is barely treated as his own character by fans and more-so just an accessory for other characters. Mark is ignored both by the show and fandom and it doesn’t give me hope he’ll be important in season2.

Also I feel like an idiot for being genuinely upset over it.

there’s only really some drama on TikTok. I mentioned it in my confession/hot take(the second post on this blog). As mentioned, some BellaRev fans will attack people(primarily MarkRev shippers) for not shipping the canon ship. I don’t think it’s a whole shipping war, just babies first fandom type stuff. MarkRev tends to get the dirty end of the stick bc Rex half-confirmed Rev as straight but also said that we’re still allowed to ship him with whoever, including queer ships so.

Funnily enough I don’t see BellaRev shippers being mad under posts about HarryRev.

But like yeah, can we stop attacking eachother- tiktok side of the fandom?

I stay off Freak Show tiktok because blocking words/tags doesn't really work well and I don't want to see Bella. The only exposure I have to it is in the comments of my own FS videos, where people mostly just hate on Bellarev lol

Tiktok is like. the worst place for fandoms anyway, especially baby's first fandom

Is it wrong to say I’m in a one sided race against Rex? Like, I posted about a plush that I commissioned in the discord, and won’t be shipping for a few months. Then he posts about the Raven plushie. And yeah ik plushies take a while to make, but the fact that it’s only the concept art and just the timing of it is really funny for me.

and like, how am I supposed to explain to the seller that I need it sooner due to an imaginary plush race against someone who doesn’t even know I exist?
