Contouring Cream & Powders

Contouring is also a part of reshaping your face adding shadows to certain features of your face. This step personally took me a long time to achieve because creams were hard for me to blend so I just use powders to contouring. Finally, after trying and buying products after products.

If you decide to go the powder route what you want to do is make sure that all the liquids applied to your face must be set with powder before going in with your contour color which should be 3 or 4 shades dark and that its matte with no shimmer. I usually apply this at the temples, hallows of my cheek bones, jawline, the sides of my nose, and under the lip. You then want to blend it out with a clean brush to not appear so harsh. Its easy to achieve with powders I feel like for beginners you have more control of how much goes on the face.

If you decide on the cream contour route you would need to apply your foundation and highlighter and then apply the cream contour still keeping it 3 or 4 shades darker on the temples, hallows of cheek bones, jawline, the sides of the nose, and under the lip. Some people take it down more and contour their collarbone. Once that’s done what I prefer to blend this out is a brush maybe a duo fiber one. Some people use the mini green beauty blender. Followed by setting it with translucent powder if you don’t set your make up will move around through the day or night. People who like the more natural look can stop at there for those who love the full glam look you then want to take a contour color in powder and go over all the cream color areas that you’ve blended and set. This step will really give it the drama but good drama.

Highlighting and Baking should be added to you Make up routine

Highlighting and baking have become a very simple trick to enhance features on your face or simply brighten up certain areas. This was started by DRAG QUEENS back in the day and they did this because since they are men the needed to reshape their entire face by highlighting and contouring. Now to achieve the highlighting and baking thing you need a concealer that’s about 2 or 3 shades lighter then your skin tone depending how bright you want certain areas on your face to be. Then you apply it under your eyes in a triangle shape, down the bridge of the nose, forehead, and your chin. You want to blend these out with my best friend and what I consider a must have in your make up kit THE BEAUTY BLENDER!

Now you want to apply loose translucent powder in all the areas that you applied and blended the concealer. You want to let this “BAKE” for a couple of minutes usually people or make up artist will work on the eyes or finish up the eyes and then dust all the excess powder of the face, or they wait till the end to dust it all off depending on the look. This step became really famous when Kim Kardashian would upload photos of her Glam process on social media she would appear in these photos wearing this very bright yellow powder under her eyes which looked cray cray but yet we all wanted to try it. Once we figured out that it was the Ben Nye Banana loose powder it was a must have for everyone. One thing these Ben Nye powders they come in different colors so make sure you find one that best suits your concealer you don’t walk around looking crazy if its too light or might not even do the bright under eye effect.

My next favorite has to be the Laura Mercier Loose Translucent powder which can be found at Sephora and on their website Sephora.com this powder runs for $37

The most affordable and the loose powder that DRAG QUEENS swear by is the Coty AirSpun Loose powder these can be found at your nearest Walgreens or on their website.

I have all of these in my kit and can’t live without them literally.
