In honor of Black History Month, we’re highlighting great films by black directors from Tribeca Film Festivals past.
Today’s film is Harvest: 3,000 Years, Haile Gerima’s 1976 drama about an Ethiopian peasant family that was handpicked for a retrospective Tribeca Film Festival screening by none other than longtime Gerima fan Martin Scorsese in 2008. Shot on the run, with non-actors, in the midst of a civil war, this is a monumental work from an undersung master making his first film in his native Ethiopia.
