OKAY, SERIOUS QUESTION TIME.

how many of you would LOVE to see guster and father john misty do a tour together? right before they left for their summer tour, they had made mention of the fact that they are starting to work on a new album… father john misty is currently on our as well for the album “fear fun” (go see a show if you can… fantastic). guster (specifically ryan) has voiced his love for FJM already. this would be an amazing tour! i’ve been toying with the idea of creating a petition to make this happen. since both bands are currently on our and guster is still currently hammering out the details of a new album, this hypothetically couldn’t/wouldn’t happen until sometime in 2014.

but, that alone gives us time to build interest. this definitely would need to reach beyond the scope of tumblr. would you guys be willing to help spread the word on facebook/twitter/whatever other social media sites you’re into? this may be an ambitious and lofty dream, but i know the dudes in guster are usually well-receiving of things fans want, if the demand is high enough. i actually made the suggestion to josh tillman (the voice behind FJM) last friday, and while he nodded and said he would give it consideration, i’m sure that information was lost in a cloud of pot smoke and beer by the end of the night.

This picture may not look like much- just two dudes standing in what seems to be an elevator. But this picture is very special to me. One day, Adam Busch (actor and member of one of my favorite bands, Common Rotation) tweeted that he was going to play at Petty Fest. I already knew that Ryan from Guster would be there as well, and so I tweeted to Adam “Say hi to Ryan Miller (@guster) for me”. I didn’t think any thing would come from it, but I was wrong. The day after Petty Fest, Adam Busch sent out a tweet with both me and Guster tagged in it that simply said “done” and had this picture attached. Not only did Adam take the time to meet Ryan, but thought to take a picture with him and tweet it with me in mind. It was so sweet of him to do that, and it made me feel warm and fuzzy and special for the rest of the day. Thank you, Adam Busch. It may not have seemed like much, but it meant a lot to me.

okay so you can't actually click the image, because i borrowed it from his website, and i'm not html savvy enough for that junk. but really, while we're in the way of supporting good causes, pledge some additional backing money for luke's new album! "maps" showed a lot of potential, this man is a talented musician! surely any of you who have seen him play live with guster, or in his own solo efforts, are aware. there are some pretty cool perks for doing so, too. :)

Saw Jukebox the Ghost and Guster tonight. Snagged another setlist and got to talk with the guys from Jukebox afterwards. Picked up some CDs and a 7”. Both bands did amazing as always. It was a nice change up from last weeks Pianos and Tigers Jaw show. And the guy selling merch for Guster saw me sporting a Foreign Tongues shirt and it turns out he knows the guys, so I also got to discuss how much they kicked ass last week. Today was a good fucking day.

Guster and Dispatch have followed similar lines to success. Neither play jam rock (Guster’s too clean, Dispatch too dirty), but they came up in that scene. Their late-’90s indie albums connected with a generation of young hippies looking for new music and a purpose. ‘What’s great about us to­gether is that we’ve always championed social causes and they’ve pushed environmental causes,’ Stokes said. Both bands pioneered preshow service projects. Instead of getting loaded in the parking lot before concerts, fans often join band members cleaning parks, painting school rooms or planting crops at organic farms. All three Dispatch/Guster summer bills include projects that lead to meet-and-greets with the bands. ‘Our passions are similar and our stories are similar,’ Gardner said.
