It's really not fair not to show the main character of the AU. Here she is — Alizy!

In a time long forgotten, folk lived in peace and contentment, their days unburdened by care. Among them, however, were those blessed with a singular gift—the gift of magic... But the people grew terrified of this dreadful power, and so they banished all sorcerers to the frozen peaks of the Monts de Taniège, there to be left for dead.

For two hundred long years, they sent them away, and many who were innocent of any magic also perished. As centuries turned to dust, mankind struck that chapter from their history. The magi were no more.

The Monts de Taniège, once sheathed in eternal ice, have since thawed, yet no soul dares to climb them. They say the spirits of the dead witches slay any who draw near, in vengeance for the old wrongs. And this is held to be true, for those who ventured there... never returned.

Protos.

Back in the day,this guy was a knight. So, in my lore, all the monsters chillin' in the mountains? They used to be mages back then, and Protos was one of them. His main gig was this freeze-ray power—he could totally stop anyone in their tracks. He'd build up all that magic juice in his sword and then bam, instant pause button. Came in clutch for saving peeps, too. He'd freeze a homie solid and patch 'em up while they were on ice.

The seriously messed up part? Most of the monsters now have totally blanked on their past lives. They don't remember they were human, and they've totally forgotten that their own families threw them under the bus, shipping them off to bite the dust in the frozen mountains. His whole family ghosted him the second they found out he was a mage. I mean, sure, if they'd covered for him, they'd have been toast too... but still. Majorly unfair.

He's super soft for Alizi, the one who took a nosedive. It's a real wholesome, big-brother, father-figure vibe they've got going on. Since both of them got zero family, they just get each other, y'know? It just hits different. So Protos tags along with the kid on her journey, taking all the heat and getting into scrapes himself. But hey, any kinda trouble is better than riding solo. And get this—turns out he's not the only skeleton monster creepin' around.
