Reference on Men in Madrianism
Several people have expressed to me lately that concerns had been raised to them about the appropriateness of men within Déanic/Filianic devotion. Anyone with concerns on this issue should read the story “Kern’s Quest” in Issue 12 of The Coming Age (pp. 14–16 in this PDF: http://www.oxfordgoddessrevivalarchive.org/cms/files/original/44a99c9fb64597eeae3289be7e6e7c51.pdf).

I found a neat page which covers a concept that I don’t think the Chapel talks about at all: sithamë.
Here’s what it says:
“Sithamë (pronounced sit-ah-may) means the special thame of an individual. Thamë (with a small “t”) is a complex word that means “law” and “harmony” and “own-nature”. In a traditional society there is the thamë that is proper to everyone, there is the thamë that is proper to a particular estate (priestesses and intellectuals, nobles, artisans, servants), to a particular job or function (motherhood, musicianship, etc.) There is also the thamë that is special to an individual – her own personal nature, her “calling”, her “way”. This is called her sithamë or own-thamë.”
It seems to me that sithamë is the same concept as True Will in Thelema. (I have a lot of thoughts and feelings about Thelema and Crowley, but I won’t go into any of that here.)
Anyway, I thought it was interesting.
I’m going to get personal here again, and I apologize for that.
I’ve written up many posts over the past week–apologies, entreaties, rants, laments, mission statements, and even a couple goodbye posts–and I ended up deleting all of them. Without getting too much into my own issues, I will say that all of these posts have revolved around the concept of community.
Our community is very small and very unstable. I know this. But every time someone leaves, it hurts. Especially if I feel that I am in any way to blame.
I know it’s unfair of me to expect people to stick around. It’s also unfair of me to pin my desire for spiritual community entirely on Déanic Tumblr.
I don’t want to guilt-trip anyone into doing anything, which is what I’m afraid this post will come across as. To be honest, I don’t know what this post is supposed to be. I just have a lot of feelings and it seems important for me to express them right now. I hope you’ll all forgive me for it.
I think we’re all sad when someone decides their journey is taking them elsewhere, even if we are happy for them in moving closer to where they need to be. That’s perfectly natural.
Déanic (Filianic?) Tumblr has its problems, as on the ground communities will, too, someday. Still, there is warmth, conviviality, and genuine human concern for one another here. I get emotional about it—I think most of us do—and that’s precisely how I know that, for all its faults, our little online community is a *real* spiritual community. Caring about it, even a little too deeply at times, is also perfectly natural.
Building an ekklesia isn’t like starting a country club; it’s a lot more like entering a marriage, or founding a city. If it doesn’t mean so much to you that you’re sometimes tempted to storm off into the woods alone because it’s too painful to see it being less than you know it can be, if it doesn’t mean so much that it keeps you up at least a few long, lonely nights, if it doesn’t mean so much that you’ve never choked down a tear so that no one would see just how much it meant, then it will never be able to, as Rumi says, “break your heart again and again until it opens.”
And if it can’t do that, what use is it?

I’m here to share a secret; I am not who I’ve always been, The world that lies outstretched before me, Is not the only one I’ve seen, I’ve travelled on the tails of comets, I’ve burned up in the hearts of stars, I’ve been spat out of supernovas, That left me scattered near and far, I have dined in distant galaxies, And taught the birds to sing, I’ve danced for a whole lifetime, Upon Saturn’s dusty rings, I’ve been here for long enough, To learn what makes the willow weep, I’ve sung celestial lullabies, That sent the moon to sleep, I’ve been both the flowing water, And the stone that blocks its way, I’ve been frozen, I’ve been molten, And I’ll be again someday, Though I’ve been a billion things, This is the first one that can smile, I’m pieces of the universe, Living as human for a while.

Some part of our being knows this is where we came from. We long to return. And we can. Because the cosmos is also within us. We’re made of star-stuff. We are a way for the cosmos to know itself.

As so many have announced, I too will be withdrawing from the online Deanic/Filianic community.
The images I’ve created and shared will always be free for everyone to use as they please: I’m glad to have given some small service to the community that has grown up in the past few years.
There are a couple of things still queued to post here until Saturday. After that, this blog will go quiet. I don’t know for how long or if I’ll pick it back up again. I might pop in a post an image from time to time if inspiration strikes.
Thanks to those who wrote in anonymously - your messages were very welcome, and I wish I could have responded to you personally! It will have to suffice for me to say you are much appreciated for your words.
Thanks to those who sent me chat messages as well! Though there were a lot of bitter moments, these were welcome reprieves in all that has blown up in the past few days.
Hope you all do well and grow better than ever after all this. Thanks again & see you around?

girl rises from the starry sea the bitterness of black holes lingers on her lips she hears the song of the cosmos faintly at first, and then louder her eyes are lit up one by one with the gentle glow of the moons and all things that are and were and will be begin with the gentle inhale of her breath
