Common Gamer Myths
Much like any other pet, gamers have a lot of myths surrounding them. Some of these are harmless, while others can lead to things such as unintentional mistreatment, intentional abuse, and abandonment of the gamers, along with them being less likely to be adopted at Gamer Shelters.
One of the most common myths happens to revolve around how dangerous gamers in general are. The myth states that gamers have a massive disconnect from reality, and that their enrichment makes them more violent. This is completely a falsehood. Their enrichment has shown to cause lower levels of stress and murderous intentions in both humans and gamers alike. Gamers as a whole as the name suggests also needs to play games in order to be healthy. If you do not let a gamer play video games it will cause a mass influx of stress both physical and psychological.
Another one is that you can let the gamer decide their own hours. This is because, gamers have about as much self control with at as a chihuahua who's been gently told not to bark. This is especially true with breeds like the MMO or the Gacha(also hide you credit card information from any gamers no matter the breed but especially those in the "whale" family). As someone who owns a pet gamer I can say in the first couple of days the gamer played around 18-20hrs per day. Generally recommended you do not give that kind of leeway but also make sure not to give them limits like 1-3hrs since that is far smaller than what is healthy for them. A good rule of thumb is around 1/2 of their awake time should be available for games, and the other 1/2 should be for various other activities. (Mine likes to drag me outside)
Final myth I'd like to talk about is that it is extremely unhealthy for gamers to go outside. This is blatantly wrong. In fact, this is something that blatantly can harm the gamer. Depending on the breed it depends on how little sun is needed, but all breeds of gamer can handle sunlight, unless they are a mix of gamer and vampire. Overall, it's up to you to figure out the right amount of outside time for your gamer. Just make sure not to leave 'em stranded without a handheld.
