So many good omens fans are like ābut what if the gay couple was straightā and I just think they should reflect on that a little bit
Iām begging the GO fandom to stop erasing homosexuality every chance they get. And to think for a second about why theyāre so eager to erase it in the first place.
Youāre right and you should say it.

I feel like as a collective we don't talk enough about Aziraphale's and Crowley's periodic "Ah, no Paperwork !!" whenever they successfully avoid discorporation [or should I say, when they avoid the bullet]
Itās obviously not paperwork they care about; I swear every single time one of them says this, it practically means "I am so glad you are not dead, because I love living here [on Earth] with you, it would never ever be the same without you"

āis Crowley gay coded?ā fuck no, there's a huge difference
Aziraphale is gay as in so homo he makes Ancient Greeks look straight, gay as in sees angelhood like it's the only gender worth being and loving, gay as in this fucker has probably made out with Oscar Wilde at some point and inspired that bloody nightingale story when they broke up, gay as in the gay that binary cisgender people whinge about aspiring to be whenever they're annoyed with the other gender, it's right there in the book
Crowley is queer as in trans, genderfluid, non-binary, lovequeer, genderqueer, doesn't belong anywhere, queer as in fuck you, so queer he probably encouraged humans to invent neopronouns for kicks, so queer it makes Aziraphale look straight, queer as in great mangled pustulent bollocks to the essentialists, queer as in shapeshifting into literally any form he likes even if it's a ball of energy or a winged snake with the head of a pissed off piranha or a ginger David Tennant with a drunken supermodel walk
in case anyone else was wondering about the rampant fandom homophobia and disdain for gay characters who are somehow ānever queerā enough, look no further than this post and its replies. 700+ notes for a take of how BORING those gay people are, how āconservativeā and problematic they are for BEING gay, a utter disdain for both Aziraphale and homosexuality in general being present here.
Crowley is not āāmore queerā thanks. And Aziraphale wonāt become more so when he decides to fight against heaven (despite being traumatized and religiously oppressed and repressed), because being queer is not a political ideology and this whole post and peopleās replies to it show their entire ass on what they really think about gay people.

"I loathe him. And, despite myself, I respect a worthy opponent...Which he isn't because he's a demon and I cannot respect a demon. Or like one."
decided to draw a small part of the bookshop opening deleted scene bc not one day goes by where I don't think about it š„ŗ we lost so bad by not getting this one šš especially bc it contrasts the season 2 finale so well⦠I could write entire dissertations about it š¤§

Also people in the notes of that original post are being like āyouāre inventing homophobia in the text so you can be mad at the author and call him problematic!ā so funny. I assure you weāre just saying āthe story he wrote works on a better and deeper level than heās saying it does!ā Weāre really trying to help him out here
This is so strange to me. And like please point me where I or anyone ever insinuated that Neil is homophobic šš
Like please, Iām dying to know how theyāre getting this read. I certainly didnāt mean that he was wrong for using allegorical homophobia with Uriel or that he supports her views or is somehow bigoted for writing it like that? What???
I was disagreeing with the assertion that the angels donāt know what gay is, that Uriel using that specific word in a snide way was to me really clear that she absolutely does, and itās so weird to bring up the homophobia that Aziraphale endures in both the book and show and then somehow be like āactually youāre making this up and bringing it from the outside/seeing what you want to seeā š
Thank you for some sanity again! Your interpretation and takes have been spot on.
I know this is probably asking way too much of the Missing The Point fandom but if they're gonna clap back at everything and everyone who raises the slightest disagreement against Neil I'd love if they actually interpreted those disagreements correctly.
Nobody is out here condemning him for the mere act of putting homophobia (allegorical or otherwise) in the text. Applied correctly, it's a good thing to include conflict that serves Aziraphale's story as a gay character. What people are at odds with Neil about is him being obtuse about the purpose of the homophobia he's written, and in turn denying that Aziraphale's homosexuality has any meaningful narrative weight at all.
am i losing my mind or is "The homophobia is perhaps something you brought to the scene yourself." just an awful thing to say to someone? like... big 'if you're offended it's your fault' white man energy :/
YEAH. Little mind boggling to say the least! I never said either thatās what he intended to write⦠I said that howās the scene FELT because Aziraphale is so gay coded.
crazy times!
Letās imagine that Aziraphale was totally besotted with all the Fred Astaire & Ginger Rogers movies when they came out, and letās imagine Crowley put in his best efforts to recreate a little Heaven on the dancefloor.
neil thinks wearing a suit makes Uriel gay-coded truly a historic moment of straw-grasping on tumblr dot gov
Heās truly a tumblrina down to the reductive hypocritical takes ā„ļø itās funny because short hair and suit is obvious gay coding but cornering a guy to bully him about his boyfriend? Well if you see some allegorical homophobia in that youāre the one making it up
