My dear sweet soul dog best friend, Pepper. I lost him last summer and the only solace I could take was that it was indeed his time to go, and even then he squeezed my finger with his little paw signaling to me he didn’t want to leave me because our bond was so strong. A dog that lives to be 20 is a testament to the love they receive but I realize it’s also a lot of luck because plenty of people love their dogs deeply and don’t get that time with them so I thank the universe frequently.
I continue to struggle with waves of grief. In November, I got a call from the rescue organization I volunteer with. They had a dog found in the streets of Hollywood that was a senior, had trouble seeing and hearing, and needed a foster asap. I always wondered if anyone would take Pepper in when he was like that late in his life. How could I say no? These dogs are still so deserving and need even more protection, safety, and patience. It’s been so healing to pour over the unfinished love and nurturing I had in me. It’s as if the universe knew we would be the perfect match to help each other.
Every dog that walks into my home is part of my healing and part of Pepper’s legacy in all he taught me about love. Thank you, buddy. ❤️
