The Gender Census releases all data collected every year so that people can process data about gender-divergent people in their home countries. However, when a country has less than 10 participants we redact the country information for their safety. These countries are all very close to having usable public data!

Hi! Are you aware of any xenogenders relating to spalted wood? I'm thinking about coining a term as I can't find any online but I probably missed something and wouldn't want to re-coin an existing identity

so I definitely havent searched *everywhere*, but I wasn't able to find anything related specifically to spalted wood or spalting. there are a handful of less specific tree-related and fungus-related genders, but not really anything with both or what you're looking for.

I'd say go for the coining ! besides, the chances of what you coin being the *exact* same as an already coined identity are pretty slim, so even if it's similar it'll be different enough that i'm sure someone will appreciate the variety

is there a gender where you are agender but use he/him bc u feel like a boy mentally but are 100% fine with being an afab and liking girly names

first off, there's nothing wrong with preferring/enjoying traditionally gendered terms while still being agender. you can be agender and use any name and pronouns; using he/him or a feminine name doesn't mean you can't be agender. "feeling like a boy mentally" could also mean that you are a boy, again there are no prerequisites for being a boy, and you can be both if you want

if you feel like these masc/fem preferences do have a bearing on your gender, you could potentially be a demiboy/demigirl/demigender, or another partial gender; you could also look into bi/tri/multigenders, as it is possible to be both agender and boy/girl.

following that last train of thought, there are Oxigenders [link], which are mostly one gender, partly another, and a little bit another. I found Baxygender [link] which is mostly agender, partly male, and a bit female, which sounds like it could describe your situation. (I couldnt find one for mostly agender, partly female and a bit male, but theres a chance it exists and I just cant find it) if the oxigender scheme fits but we can't find one that describes you, I could always coin one for ya

last thing i want to touch on, is that "being an afab" isnt really a thing. AFAB means that you were assigned female at birth, which is an event that happens to you, and doesnt have any traits that are shared 100% between every person that has had the same assignment at birth. if you feel comfortable with your natal primary and secondary sexual characteristics, then you dont have to change them in any way. you are still your gender (whether that be agender or something else) regardless of what you do or don't do with said characteristics.

Word otherkin will be 22 years old

An upcoming anniversary in the otherkin community: On July 9, 2012, the word “otherkin” will have been coined 22 years ago. It was coined in the Elfinkind Digest, a mailing list which is active to this day. On that date in 1990, one participant, Torin, used the word “otherkin” as a variation on the earlier word “otherkind.” Both phrases were casually improvised as an abbreviated way of referring to people who identify as other kinds of creatures.

Thanks to the mailing list moderator R’ykandar Korra’ti for making this primary source available to me while I was researching our community’s history book, the Otherkin Timeline. Thanks to Torin for permission to share this information.) 

Right now, the word “otherkin” is nearly 22 years old. That means that any otherkin who are currently in their teens weren’t even born until after the word had been coined. There are lots of otherkin who have considered themselves to be otherkin, of a kind, even years before the word had been coined. Detractors sometimes claim that otherkin is merely a passing fad popular among youth, but this is evidently not the case. 

Any thoughts on the significance of this passage of time? Where were you at, as an otherkin, 22 years ago? Anybody want to make plans for the 9th, to set it aside as a day for thinking about otherkin things? Maybe a party for reminiscing, maybe even with costumes and artistic “glamour-bombs”?

This year, the word “otherkin” recently turned 32 years old on July 9, 2022.

The top post in this thread from 2012 is where I first proposed observing it as Otherkin Day, unless if anyone can find earlier references to that. The original post is gone, so I was grateful to find this particular post had been archived on someone else’s blog.

I’ve now got a page on my website titled A Brief(ish) History of the Word “Otherkind” based on my reading of the contemporary Elfinkind Digest, which talks a bit about the coining, trends in usage, whether it included elves at first, and whether it included animal folk (today’s therians).

Me too anon, I'm seeing WAY too many lesbians be against lesboys, gaybians, mspec lesbians and straightbians for no reason, I don't see it happen as often with gay men being exclusionary but it still happens and it's honestly really infuriating

The 11th annual international gender census, collecting information about the language we use to refer to ourselves and each other, is now open until 13th June 2024.

It’s short and easy, about 5 minutes probably.

After the survey is closed I’ll process the results and publish a spreadsheet of the data and a report summarising the main findings. Then anyone can use them for academic or business purposes, self-advocacy, tracking the popularity of language over time, and just feeling like we’re part of a huge and diverse community.
