I don't quite understand the connection.. Can you please explain the connection they have? (not being rude sorry!)
Yeah of course, no problem! I’ve already gone sort of into depth about it here on my personal, but that was a few months ago and very rambly so here’s a newer, more organized version!
Genjamé is, you know. Kind of a stretch. A lot of a stretch, if we’re being honest. As far as I know there isn’t like...any canon connection between them? But I and others who like the ship enjoy it because of the potential dynamic.
When it comes to the canon Overwatch universe, they have a lot in common. Both suffered serious tragedies involving the people closest to them: Genji being killed by his only brother, Amélie being forced to kill her husband. Both had their bodies drastically altered and weaponized against their will, to various degrees. I think they’d be able to understand each other really well in those regards.
(I also really like the idea of them knowing each other pre-fall of Overwatch, pre-Amélie turning into Widowmaker. Blackwatch Genji being friends with both Amélie and Gérard is *chef kiss emoji* But there’s no canon backup for that other than it being possible, so moving on.)
They also can be really compatible in terms of personality. A lot of this really just depends on how people characterize them personally, and it’s kind of specific to modern AUs, although it can apply to the canon universe as well. Consider:
They’re both beautiful.
They’re both bad with feelings: Genji overcompensates with bravado and putting on a happy face, and Amélie just acts like she doesn’t have feelings at all.
Common interests. They could go clubbing together, shop together, watch shitty reality TV together, gossip together, etc. etc.
[Slight NSFW] I won’t go into any detail but. Genjamé sex. Yeah.
I think they’d just...understand each other really well? They both have façades, big time, and I imagine they’d like/trust each other enough to drop them a lot of the time, but not all of the time, and they’d both understand that.
