I've been playing with the idea that the Player just... disappeared from the internet after HLAGE, and HL2VRAI is him playing on his own without an audience. The description of HLAGE frames the series as a found footage type situation, and each video starts with a note saying "this recovered footage was broadcast live," indicating that the videos were compiled by someone other than the Player.

And unlike the first two series, there's no visible chat in HL2VRAI, no "wayneradiotv" in the corner. Based on the videos alone, there's no indication that these are streams. I love the idea that there's something else drawing the Player back to Half-Life than making content: a deep need to know more, his identity being so shaken by HLVRAI and HLAGE that he can't stay away from the games, something that's been gnawing at him since he finished HLAGE. He needs to go back, even if it destroys him.
