I'd believe the whole "Shion is commentary on beauty = status = power" more if we had literally any female omnics as playable characters other than her. There aren't female omnics, there aren't any women who fall more than a stone's throw from conventionally attractive, smooth skin, big eyes and pouty lips pretty. They can't let Ana be old. It had been literal years since Zarya got a new legendary and the first thing they do is make her slimmer. They gave the cat winged eyeliner. I do not trust blizzard to make commentary on female autonomy in expression/appearance when they did Anran so dirty they had to publicly apologize and fix her face modeling (and people like me still think they didn't fix her enough!). The same face syndrome has been a longstanding problem and taking away an omnic character's inorganic face plating to put an extremely similar face feels bad. Honestly I'd rather have Susie :/ Shion to me is affirming the new character design ethos of making everyone pretty, slim (or shredded beyond belief), and designed to prep them for cosmetics. Background characters? Those can be diverse. Playable characters? As if.
