21 Selfcare Ideas for Busy Moms
As a supermom, having little to no time to yourself while focusing entirely on your kid(s) can be overwhelming. We know all too well how difficult it is to adjust to this whole new way of life. From sleepless nights to feeding and changing, your needs might be at the bottom of your to-do list.
It’s time to adopt a few self-care methods to add to your daily life to help you stay grounded.
Everyone's definition of self-care is different. But there’s one thing we can all agree on: self-care is about mental, physical, and emotional nutrition. Self-care is the deliberate act of taking measures to maintain or improve one's mental or physical health.
Even the smallest acts such as taking a long bath or writing in a journal will help you exercise your self-care routine. There is absolutely nothing wrong with taking a few minutes out of your day to embrace yourself and your well-being.
Neglecting self-care can lead to physical and mental exhaustion such as a weaker immune system, depression to high blood pressure. The last thing you want is to be an irritable mama for your child!
Pick what works for you, we’ve gathered 21 self-care ideas that will help you unwind and take a breather, and feel calm in under an hour!
Morning Tea
It may sound simple, but a morning cup of tea can encourage mindfulness and set your intentions for the day ahead before the kids wake up. Grab your favorite mug or teacup that feels just right while drinking out of, pick your flavor of tea and begin boiling your water. This is the time to reflect and create a mindful space. After you’ve poured your water and your tea begins to brew, take these 5 minutes to clear your cluttered thoughts. Take a sip and deeply inhale this rejuvenating moment.
Disconnect into Nature
Our minds are constantly overstimulated at home. One of the best ways to reset your mind and body is to immerse yourself in nature. Give yourself the space to decompress and connect with mother earth. It’s amazing how much nature affects your mood and mental health, just spending 30 minutes a day in nature can help reduce stress and anxiety by lowering your heart rate and blood pressure. Step out to a park or enjoy the healing act of gardening to help you relax and improve mental clarity.
Get your Body Moving
If you don’t have time to head to the gym, exercising at home is as easy as turning on a home workout video. Moving your body and getting your heart rate up for just 20 minutes a day can help reduce stress and boost your energy levels. You know the drill ladies!
Journaling
One of the most important acts of self-care is to enjoy a peaceful mind. Examining your feeling by writing in a journal will leave you feeling grounded and help balance your emotions. Take a blank sheet of paper and just brain dump all of your thoughts for the day until there’s nothing left on your mind. You can write a gratitude list, a letter to your future self, or write down everything you’re feeling in the moment. You’ll feel a sense of mental clarity after you’ve written your journal of the day.
Read a Chapter
Did you know just reading for 6 minutes every day will ease muscle tensions and reduce your heart rate? Reading has an amazing way to calm our nerves when we feel overwhelmed and stressed. Once you’ve gotten cozy with a book you love, it’ll help you relax and even get you to fall asleep quicker.
Warm Bubble Bath
In just 10 minutes you can decrease muscle tension, stress, and fatigue with a bubble bath. As a busy mom, you should treat yourself to a bubble bath at least once a week as a reward for all your hard work for your family. The soothing atmosphere of a warm bath can be a great mood booster and release any stress. Light up a candle and apply a face mask to completely submerge yourself into relaxation.
Practice Meditation
Meditation is a fool-proof method to help reduce anxiety, depression, insomnia, stress, and exhaustion. With both physical and mental benefits, meditation is a 10-minute self-care method that can transform your inner well-being. Not sure how to start? Get yourself into an empty, quiet room. Sit in a comfortable upright position, close your eyes and breathe in and out. Simply focus on your breathing and let go of a calmer mind.
Explore Affirmations
The quickest way to practice self-care is by repeating positive affirmations throughout the day. While you’re making breakfast or cleaning up after the kids, you can repeat these affirmations such as, “I am a powerful woman,” or “Today I embrace all that I am." These positive thoughts will stimulate and inspire you through a rough day, and help you to overcome any negative self-talk.
Get Creative
Immerse yourself in a hobby that will unleash your creative juices. Grounding yourself in a hands-on activity is one of the essential methods of practicing self-care. We all have a spark of creativity in us, a fun hobby such as drawing, painting, playing an instrument or even doodling will all help you ease any stressors and relax your mind and body.

Remember those pair of jeans that made you feel good? We all have a favorite piece of clothing that might’ve gotten lost while stepping into motherhood. Take a few moments out of your day to shuffle through your closet. Any item of clothing that you haven’t worn in years should be donated to make space for a shopping spree! At the end of the day, a happy closet will help you feel good about yourself.
Declutter
Living in a messy space will adversely impact your kids in the long run. If you’re struggling to find stuff around the house, chances are you need to declutter the mess and clear your thoughts. Having an organized space will give you a sense of clarity and prevent any unnecessary anxiety. Being organized is a terrific approach to constantly make yourself feel good.

Whether you want to head to a nail salon or do your nails at home, the simple act of taking care of your nails will help you maintain a sense of balance and clarity. A manicure ritual of just filing and painting your nails will soothe your busy mind and free you from all worries during the day.
Sleep Early
Sleep deprivation is common with moms. Not getting a restful night’s sleep can be extremely detrimental to your health and well-being. If you can put the kids to bed early, unwind yourself and get yourself into bed. Turn off the TV and your phone that will keep you up longer. Getting quality sleep might help you manage anxiety, allowing us to be in a better mood when we wake up.
Visit your Favorite Spot
Whether it’s a café or a museum, we all have a spot that we love to get away to. Indulge in your favorite cup of cappuccino or an art piece to recharge your emotions. There’s something about revisiting your favorite spot to help you feel more grounded.

It can feel lonely in this beautiful motherhood journey. Keeping your friends close is an important part of sustaining your mental health and personal connections. As a busy mom, spend quality time nurturing your relationships over lunch or dinner. Enjoy a laugh over a memory, after all our friendships will help us be a better mom.
Practice Gratitude
More than just an act of self-care for the soul, gratitude is a way of taking control of our thoughts and leading us to feel more positive about ourselves. We may get lost in being a full-time mom, taking a few minutes out to remind yourself of everything you’re grateful for will completely change your inner thoughts. Write down everything you’re grateful for be it your kids, your home, or health- just pause and be present in all of your blessings.
Just Dance
Have a rough day with the kids? Put on your favorite music and dance! By letting go of your worries into a song and movement, you can exhilarate your mind and body. Dancing has a positive impact on mental and emotional well-being, it releases endorphins (the body's happy hormones) resulting in enhanced confidence and a lower risk of anxiety or depression.
Watch Your Favorite Movie
Have a self-care night with your favorite comfort movie and snacks. Indulging in a feel-good movie after a busy day can help you recharge into a better mood and encourage you to feel better. Enjoy a relaxing experience on the couch under a warm blanket to set the tone for the evening and unwind for a calm self-care night to yourself.
We do it all for our kids, but these tiny acts of self-care will go a long way to help you find balance. Having a flexible self-care routine that can easily be added to your everyday life should help you feel better in both body and mind.
Selfcare Eating Habits For Moms With Young Kids
Good nutrition fuels your body and mind. We are what we eat and at the end of the day, you don’t want to be a mommy who snacks on cookies and potato chips for lunch. Being well-fed while putting your child first can feel selfish to any parent. Adequate nutrition is critical in your ability to thrive, putting it first is an investment to your family.
Eating smart goes hand in hand with self-care. How so you might ask? Taking care of your body and mind with what you eat will have a huge impact on your health. If you’re relying on processed foods for energy, these contain little to no nutrients and are rich in salt and added fats that can cause you to feel lethargic and fatigued, the last thing you want is to be one tired momma running after a toddler!
We’ve listed some simple self-care eating habits for busy mommies, these smart nutrition strategies will do wonders for your body and mind all while taking care of a fussy toddler.
Forget 3 Meals a Day
It’s not just about what we eat, but when. Having a structured mealtime might stop you from feeding what your body needs. If you’re hungry while your baby sleeps, keep a meal aside to fit in with your child’s naps. Adapting to your baby’s unpredictable sleep cycle will help you stay well-fed. Some nutritional meals such as pre-made salads, chopped-up fruits, chicken and rice, or veggie quesadillas are a good source of protein, fiber, and heart-healthy fats to keep your energy up.
Go Green
A very simple way to reset your digestion is by keeping vegetarian meal options once a day. If you’re not ready to commit to a fully vegetarian diet, keep one meal a day that’s full of organic vegetables and fruits. Make your dish as colorful as possible to get the most nutritional benefits. The more vibrant in color the fruit or vegetable is, the more vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants it contains, and the healthier it is. Having a whole-foods, plant-based diet will reduce inflammation, strengthen the immune system, improve metabolism and support healthy digestion.
Munch on Nuts and Seeds
If you’re a mom that’s always on the go, nuts and seeds are a quick and simple option to add to your daily eating habits. Flaxseed, pumpkin seeds, and chia seeds, as well as nuts such as pistachio, walnuts, almonds, and cashews, are high in protein, fiber, and heart-healthy lipids. You can even grind up your favorite nuts and add them to your protein shake for extra flavor and nutritional boost. Just make sure your nuts are unsalted and unoiled with an intake of 30 grams in a day for a healthy diet.
Foods for Better Sleep
Sleep is an essential component of self-care. It improves your mood, cognitive abilities, and cardiovascular health, among other things. Chances are you might not be getting a restful night’s sleep. Consider going for foods that are rich in tryptophan (the sleep-inducing hormone derived from melatonin) including potatoes, almonds, whole grain oats, bananas, and seeds. These foods can help you with a healthier sleep pattern for a restful night's sleep.
Well, moms, we hope these self-care eating habits encourage you to take a chance on nutritional steps to take care of your health. Who wouldn’t want to teach their kids healthy eating habits with the right food groups? Starting with your plate is the easiest way to include self-care into your daily routine.
What Selfcare Really Means When You're A Mom
There's no greater journey than motherhood. From sleepless nights with a fussy baby to getting the kids ready for school each morning, it may feel like a never-ending cycle to keep up with their needs. Being a parent that goes above and beyond for their kids takes energy, so you might not be left with a moment to breathe.
It goes without saying, as a mom you need to set aside time for self-care and TLC if you want to keep being an amazing mother. With an already jam-packed schedule, finding some quality me-time might feel like a stretch but not far from impossible. When it comes down to it, self-care isn’t just about a fancy spa day or a long bath, it’s putting yourself first.
It’s about time you ask yourself, what are you doing for YOU?
The Basics of Self-Care
As a mom, you wouldn’t want to take care of your child with a broken arm, would you? Self-care is an all-encompassing way to nourish your physical and mental well-being so you can charge up your supermom powers. Practicing self-care is as simple as eating healthy, getting a restful night’s sleep, a long walk in the park, a spa day, or a long hot shower. Prioritizing your personal needs will leave you feeling energized and recharged. Truth be told, self-care can be one of the most effective strategies for parents to address both their own and their family's needs. Self-care is anything but selfish being a busy mom.
Prioritize You Daily
In its most basic form, self-care refers to actions taken to care for oneself. If you’re finding it difficult to practice self-care, it can take something as simple as a cup of coffee or a walk in the park to find balance in your hectic routine. We sometimes talk ourselves out of me-time because we don't have the time or money to go to a spa or any luxury that's become synonymous with self-care. After all, what is self-care if not a means to unwind? It can be something that doesn’t take up any time in your routine with the kids but improves your physical and emotional well-being.
Self-care or Self-indulgence
Let’s start with what self-care isn’t: being selfish. One of the most common misunderstandings is between self-care and self-indulgence. The difference between the two comes down to intention. Self-care is the deliberate act of taking measures to help maintain your mental or physical health. On the other hand, self-indulgence can be an impulsive decision without any long-term positive benefits. As a mom, you want to take the time to feel good that leaves a lasting impression on your mental and physical health.
Being a parent doesn’t mean we don’t deserve a relaxing hot bath with scented candles or a movie date with friends, ask yourself what you need to recharge your mental and physical health to be the best mom for your child.
It starts with peaceful activities to soothe your soul and ends with quality time with your kids. When you take time to look after yourself every day, you're also looking out for your family, it’s that simple when you think about it.

Tomatoes
Enriched with lycopene, tomatoes contain antioxidants that can help to mend damaged skin and restore its natural, healthy glow. Its acidic and astringent characteristics make it a fantastic component for acne-prone sensitive skin types. When used as a cleanser or a face mask, it can help alleviate irritated skin, prevent premature lines and combat excess oil production. Tomato enzymes exfoliate the skin gently by eliminating the top layer of dead skin cells. It is high in vitamin B complexes, which help to prevent early indications of aging.
Coffee Beans

Getting clear skin isn't always easy, that’s if you’re blessed with naturally clear skin. These ingredients have a ton of benefits being your kitchen as it is in your skincare routine.
The 5 Ways Spring Affects Your Skin
With the first signs of the spring season on the way, temperature and humidity levels start to rise, you might need to lay off that rich winter moisturizer. Our skin is exposed to less cold, dry air as the seasons change from winter to spring. With an increase in moisture levels in the air, warmer temperatures, and more sunshine, it’s no wonder why the spring season is a breath of fresh air. With more humidity in the air, your skin can experience sudden changes such as acne breakouts, sunburn, increase sebum, rashes, and allergies.
It’s time to reevaluate your skincare game to work with the weather shift. The warmer months call for minor regiment tweaks that will get your skin glow-worthy for spring.
More Sweating, More Breakouts
More humidity in the air, combined with increased activity and sweating, might cause your skin to produce more natural oil. When the temperature rises, so does the likelihood of acne breakouts and pimples. Spring acne should be a major part of your skincare routine. Not just on your face but all over your body, if you’re prone to sweating chances are you’ll be noticing more breakouts. To combat this, a cleanser with anti-acne ingredients is a crucial aspect to eliminate oils, grime, and debris.
Sun Exposure
Now that the weather is a bit warmer, it’s time to soak in the sun! The glowing sun will want you to stay outdoors more often and increase your exposure to harsh UV rays. Applying sunscreen especially if you want to head out should be at the top of your skincare routine. No matter what, it’s important to increase your SPF to a factor of 30 or higher if you're exposed to the sun for prolonged periods.
Allergies
With all the flowers, plants, and trees starting to bloom, allergy sufferers will be having a hard time this season. Itchy, swollen eyes, watery nose, and headaches can force you to touch your face too frequently. If you’re touching your face all the time, dirt and bacteria can transfer from your hands to your face leading to clogged pores, breakouts, and fine lines from rubbing your face often. Keep your hands clean at all times and avoid overly touching your face to prevent any skin issues to develop.
Rough, Dry Skin
After the dry winter season, your body is officially waking up from hibernation. Once Spring arrives, your skin will certainly be drier after spending long periods hidden behind warm socks and sweaters. This means some areas of your skin are dehydrated and is going to be more prone to sensitivity. You might even be seeing rough bumps around your arms, legs, and mid-region. This is the best time to exfoliate your body once a week with a scrub or a loofah. Physical exfoliating will scrub away any dry and dull patches from the surface of your skin to reveal a smoother glow. Follow up with a hydrating moisturizer that will soften and plump your skin.
Dull Complexion
If your winter skin is looking a little lackluster, increasing cellular turnover with retinol will help your complexion appear fresh and bright. Retinol works best during the spring season since our skin is generally not too dry to handle. The warmer temperatures will allow your skin to bear retinoids or retinol with frequent applications, which only means better results over time. Not to mention benefits such as collagen stimulation and reduced pore size with continued use.
Rashes
If you love spending time outside, you might just expose yourself to skin rashes or even contact dermatitis with all the excess sweating and heat. With plenty of pollen and irritants in the air the entire season, prevent your skin from developing redness, itchiness, bumps, and blisters with soothing creams and lotions. Keep your skin clean, dry, and free from sweat and dirt build and you’ll be clear all spring!
Spring is the loveliest season that gives a nice break from the cold, frigid winter. If you have skin problems, especially ones that get worse as the seasons change, it's time to rethink your skincare routine to enjoy the most out of warmer months ahead.
How can working moms balance life?
Working mothers have it particularly difficult, with the impossible task of balancing work and family responsibilities. We're all in different boats after having kids, going back to work when your child is small is non-negotiable for many of us. It could be for financial reasons, or you want to continue working to climb up the corporate ladder.
There's no doubt working mothers are multitasking masters. However, between diaper duties, scheduling playdates, and zoom meetings, today's working women are finding it difficult to achieve unrealistic work-life balance goals. They don't just carpool the kids, get dinner ready, they also put in long hours at work to keep up.
We’ve listed a few worthwhile suggestions to assist working mothers to balance both parts of their lives as smoothly as possible.
Be 100% Present
When it comes to work, we have to get it all checked off. While many jobs are mentally and physically taxing, leaving work and preventing any tasks to spill over at home can be a challenge. This is when the true meaning of work-life balance comes in. You want to establish strict routines and habits that allow you to be the most productive at work. You don’t want to be the mom that glued to their laptop and phone at dinner. Be present at home without any distractions from work. Truly be devoted to your kids and family when you’re at home.
Plan Family Activities
Just like we schedule zoom meetings and conference calls, making time for a fun family activity will make everyone excited about the weekend. Make it a goal each weekend for a fun activity that’s new and exciting for everyone. Plan a picnic out at the park or movie night, there are plenty of ways to make your kids excited about going out and spending quality time with you. Set every activity out on your calendar and plan ahead of time.
Ying to Your Yang
Every household is different, with single moms and co-parenting couples, the balance comes from having a partner that can support you and takes 50% of all responsibilities. It’s not just about being a babysitter, but actively taking a role to help you balance your busy work schedule and mom duties. Taking care of cleaning the house along with cooking and grocery shopping can take a load off any mom’s life. Set aside responsibilities that you need your partner to take care of to keep a well-balanced life.
Create Lists and Stick to Them
Planning is one of the ways you can be on top of your mom game. From doctor's appointments to groceries to meal prepping, dumping everything you need to get done on a list can help save you from rushing to the store last minute. Especially if your job is in corporate with plenty of meetings and presentations going on, planning your work tasks along with all your home responsibilities will keep everything running smoothly. Use a single planner or even an app to keep track of your to-do lists so you never forget.
Make Self-Care Time
Last but not least, if you don’t want to burn out it’s important to schedule out time to yourself to relax and take a deep breath. As a mom, we always seem to put our own needs last. In such a stressful atmosphere of work and home life, finding time for yourself is critical to sustaining inner peace and balance. You can practice anything that calms you from a nighttime skincare routine, a candle-lit bath, a spa day, or meditation. Recharging your mind and inner peace is just as important to taking care of your family and work tasks.
Balancing life after being a mom can be overwhelming in all aspects. No matter what situation you’re in, it’s important to take a deep breath and remind yourself of everything there is to be grateful for. You’ve got this!
Never (Ever) Look Tired Again
Have you been looking into the mirror and thought to yourself “why do I look so tired?!” Let’s face it, the world we live in is physically and mentally taxing. From mom duties to groceries to house cleaning on top of our professional career, who has the time to get eight hours of sleep while handling everything else they have going on? Nobody.
Aside from a lack of sleep, there are a slew of other factors that might make you look more fatigued. It can be alarming to look dull and washed out with no amount of makeup to mask it all. There are a few small changes you can start with today that can make your skin feel fresh and plump.
Cut Back on The Lattes
This one is a no-brainer. Overdoing your Starbucks trips and morning cup of coffee can suck out all the moisture from your body and skin. Limiting your coffee consumption can benefit your skin in the long run. Instead, switch it up with green tea as a terrific alternative with its high antioxidants content, that’s better for you and your skin.
For a quick remedy to banish tired-looking eyes, apply 2 cold tea bags to your eyes for a few minutes. This will help depuff and calm the skin around your eyes. Try it before going to sleep for a relaxing night’s sleep.
Vitamin C is your Best Friend
Sun damage and pollution are the main causes that can make your skin look dull and lackluster. Your secret ingredient to a natural, even-toned glow is a Vitamin C serum. As one of the best anti-inflammatory ingredients you can use to help make your skin look less tired, Vitamin C helps to fade pigmentation and general dullness you might be seeing.
Using a topical serum is the best way to get the most potent benefits in the long run to reduce puffiness. Not to mention it’s the perfect ingredient to improve dark under-eye circles caused by congested blood vessels. Apply every night before bed for the best results.
Regular Work Outs
A consistent exercise routine will help your body and skin look fresh and plump. Whether it’s a 30-minute walk every morning or a quick YouTube workout video in front of your TV, not moving your body will cause more lethargy and drain your energy levels. An added benefit to walking in the morning is getting a dose of Vitamin D to help us not feel lethargic.
Even with a busy schedule, take a few minutes out for a walk around the block, or even take your kids out for a stroll around the park. Once you get your body moving, you’ll be amazed at how much better you’ll start to feel! Not to mention working out is one of the best stress relievers to get you a peaceful night’s rest.
Sugar-Free Lifestyle
One of the worst ingredients you’re ingesting that can cause you to look and feel tired is sugar. Having high blood sugar can cause biochemical changes in your skin cells which cause premature aging (i.e wrinkles). We know it’s hard to kick sugar addiction and can cause a significate slump in energy levels with withdrawals. But we can all cut back on sugary treats slowly especially if that’s all your kids are obsessed with.
There are plenty of sugar-free treats that can help curb your cravings. Alternate sugar snacks for healthier options such as fruits, yogurt, granola bars, or nuts. Keep a Ziploc bag with any fruit or nuts with you if you’re out running errands to curb any snacking.
Meditate before Sleep
If you’re having trouble getting a restful night’s sleep, practicing meditation raises natural melatonin levels to help your mind and body fall asleep. By meditating you’ll help lower cortisol, a stress hormone, and raise natural melatonin levels to help you have an easier time falling asleep and help improve sleep quality.
There are multiple types of meditation methods to help relax your body and mind including guided meditation, concentration meditation, and body scan meditation. All of these can prepare your body and mind to calm down before sleeping. These may involve any audio session and breathing cues to help relax your mind.
These small habits can improve your overall health give you a boost of energy and bring back that glow in your skin!

Summer Beauty Secrets: 5 Tips for Radiant Skin
If your skin is sweating bullets and feeling like an oil slick, it is a sign that summer is officially here! Transitioning from the breezy spring season to the scorching hot summer sun can adversely affect your skin. It’s no secret that following a skincare routine (religiously, ladies!) will keep it from premature aging and sun damage.
The warm weather will have us questioning our skincare routine and issues, I mean do we need to apply a face cream if our skin is drenched in oil? We’re here to shed some light on a few amazing skincare secrets to keep your skin looking youthful and glowy under the summer sun.
Detox
The most important step during summer is to calm and soothe your sun-drenched skin. Use hydrating cleansers to replenish irritated skin post sunbathing. This is where detoxifying your skin will help you get rid of all impurities, dead skin cells, excess oil, toxins, and pollutants. A mild pH-balanced cleanser will help deep cleanse and remove all pollutants. Deep cleaning your skin twice a week will improve blood circulation, restore collagen and elasticity, improve dullness, and reduce blemishes from the surface level.
You want to use the right cleanser or antioxidant face mask for your skin type to prevent any irritation. If you have dry skin, try an oil cleanser that will cleanse and hydrate your skin. For oily or acne-prone skin, use a green tea face mask to protect and repair skin cells to combat aging and dullness.
Fruit Acids
Looking for the best-kept secret to radiant summer skin? Take your skincare routine to the next level with fruit acids. Since our skin is more prone to pollution, sun sensitivity, UV damage, and pigmentation during the intense summer months, using fruit acids before you go to sleep will soften the skin and reduce premature wrinkles.
Fruit acids such as glycolic acid and lactic acid contain exfoliating benefits to help shed off dull, rough skin to expose a brighter complexion. In the daytime, skin barriers can be weakened so we want to heal our skin overnight for a boost to brighten and smoother complexion.
Antioxidant Serums
Aside from the sun's harmful impacts, there are other factors to consider for our skin's protection, such as free radicals. Using an antioxidant-rich serum will work wonders to keep your skin plump and boost collagen. Antioxidants attach to free radicals at the molecular level, helping to reverse any damage to the skin and reduce inflammation, especially for acne-prone skin.
A Vitamin C serum is the best-kept summer secret since it protects and repairs your skin from oxidant-induced damage. It helps to reduce pigmentation caused by damaging UV light. Vitamin C also responds the most during the summer since our skin is more exposed to UV-induced damage.
Sunscreen (Obviously)
It goes without saying how important SPF is in your beauty arsenal. We know that for our skin to stay youthful, we must protect it from UVA and UVB radiation with a daily SPF of at least 30. If you’re feeling carefree without a worry about sun damage, not using sunscreen will cause premature aging, wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, sun spots, and stubborn tan…should we go on? UVA and UVB protection are a non-negotiable necessity.
Using a specific facial sunblock with broad-spectrum coverage should be reapplied every 2 hours for maximum prevention. If you’re prone to breakouts, using a sensitive skin sunscreen that is fragrance-free and non-comedogenic will not feel greasy like traditional sunscreen.
Avoid Cream Makeup
Makeup and sweat are a major no-no. As the temperature goes off the charts and humidity rising, your skin's sebaceous glands will tend to produce more sebum (natural oil). The oil released clings to the skin's surface, causing breakouts and clogged pores. Now imagine applying cream foundation and concealer on top of greasy skin, it’s just going to slip and melt off making you look like a sweaty mess.
Humidity can impact how your skin reacts to anything you apply on top. Skip out on heavy cream-based makeup and switch it out with mineral powder makeup with SPF 15+. The powder will adhere to your skin longer without slipping off, especially on your t-zone.
Keep your skin bright, fresh, and glowy all summer long with these secrets to add to your beauty routine. Level up your skincare routine free from all worries with sweat-induced clogged pores and dark sunspots to help downplay the seasonal side effects of summer.

Skin Rehab: Your Summer Skin Prep Plan
Summer is here, which means hot days at the beach, pool parties, exotic trips, and soaking up the sun! While we're excited to put away our winter coats and bring out our sundresses, you might be overlooking your skincare products. With the change in season, ideally, your skincare prep should start in Spring right before the temperature starts to scorch. The long daylight hours and hot, dry, or humid weather can have a different effect on our skin compared to chilly, darker days of winter.
Your skin may not be ready for the harsh summer weather. Oilier, patchier skin with breakouts and rashes are just a few concerns you’ll be facing if you’re not prepping your skincare routine. Let’s get gorgeous with some easy prep steps for a sun-kissed glow that help combat any side effects of heat and humidity on your skin.
Exfoliate
To get your skin summer-ready, exfoliating is the very first step to help your skin stay hydrated and glowy. Chemical exfoliation is perfect to help your skin transition into the warmer, humid season by shedding your winter skin.
Using Alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs), beta hydroxy acids (BHAs), and polyhydroxy acids (PHAs) on your face will help remove dead skin cells, dirt, and oils and prevent a dull complexion. You can also try to include glycolic, lactic, and mandelic acid into your skincare regimen daily to help with cell turnover. Exfoliating your body with a physical exfoliant such as a homemade coffee scrub will remove dead, flaky skin and help improve any dryness.
Keep a Toner in Hand
Facial toners are an essential part of any skincare routine, they might look like water but their benefits are just as good as a moisturizer and cleanser. Toners are the only skincare step that will prep your skin for hydration in the heat. With the summer heat and humidity, your oil glands are working overtime. Making your skin more prone to breakouts, keeping a toner handy will skin tight and minimize your pores even after you've cleansed it.
Use a toner in the middle of the day to eliminate excess sweat and oil. Opt for an alcohol-free toner that prevents over-drying your skin, witch hazel, and rose water are perfect alternatives for an instant boost and replenishing moisture. It relieves sunburns and irritation while also making your skin healthy and radiant.
Hydration is Key
If you believe your skin can skip out on creams and lotions throughout the summer, you’re certainly wrong. Switch out your moisturizer from winter to summer with a lighter cream or serum. Since the air is humid and more prone to sweating, your winter cream will weigh your skin down and exacerbate sweating. Go for a thinner, runnier moisturizer that’s non-greasy to heal your skin’s natural moisture barrier.
For dry, dehydrated skin, the Hydraluxe Serum is fast-absorbing with its botanically-rich ingredients that will restore elasticity to the skin for a youthful glow.
SPF Re-application
It goes without saying, SPF is your best friend in the summer. As the most crucial part of your beauty regimen, SPF should be used on your face, lips, body, and hair to prevent long-term damage and aging. Only use SPFs that contain Zinc or Titanium (mineral-based SPFs) since they efficiently filter UV rays.
Don’t neglect any part of your body that gets exposed to the sun. Opt for a least SPF 30 with broad-spectrum protection, which protects skin from both UVA and UVB rays. Always make sure to reapply every 2 hours you are exposed to natural sunlight.
Don’t Over Shower
If you’re showering every day during summer, we get it. It’s hot and you’re sweaty, but chances are you might be doing more harm to your skin. You might love a long shower during summer, but your skin doesn’t need it. Showering too frequently can dry up your skin, especially if you’re using a soap that strips all oils and bacteria from your skin.
The natural oils in your skin help protect it from dryness and allergens. If you have eczema, a hot shower will aggravate it, leaving you with red, itchy skin. If you absolutely must shower after a long day out, always follow up with body oil or use a shower oil in the bath to rehydrate your skin.
Summer is one of our favorite seasons of the year. Before you head out to enjoy the beach, take the time to transition and prep your skincare routine. Make the most with these skincare tips and protect your body and face from harsh sun rays. You don’t want to do too little or too much for your summer prep routine, instead using the right products to help keep your skin healthy, free from sun damage and youthful is all it takes!

Skincare Secrets: Prep Steps Before Hitting The Beach (or Pool)
With the hot summer months approaching, the beach is just calling your name! Who doesn’t love a little fun under the sun, building sandcastles and getting a little tanned? If you’re not a beach gal, you might just love sitting poolside soaking in the warm sun. While we love enjoying these sunny days, our skin might need some extra TLC before stepping outside. To your skin, UV exposure, sand, salty water, and chlorine water can all damage your skin’s natural barrier.
You want to have your skin and body well-prepped to prevent sun damage, premature aging, pigmentation, or even dehydration. These skincare secrets should be your beach/pool day regimen so you don’t have to worry about damaging your skin in the long run. If you want a post-summer glow- these tips will do just the trick!
Pre-Shower
You don’t want to skip out on a shower just because you’re going to be swimming. Before heading out, you want to cleanse your skin from head to toe. Take a thorough shower with lukewarm water and scrub your entire body. Use the ultra-gentle Gorgeous Confidence Purifying Cleanser on your face and neck to remove any dirt and oil build-up while also moisturizing and hydrating your skin. This will ensure all the sunscreen you’re applying will protect your skin before going to the beach or the pool.
Moisturize
After you’re out of the shower, pat dry your skin and apply a moisturizer all over your body. Don’t miss out on any exposed areas like feet, back, legs and arms. For your face, neck, and décolleté area, apply a hydrating serum and massage it into your skin until it’s well absorbed. Don’t forget your lips and apply a lip balm to prevent getting them chapped.
Broad Spectrum SPF
Before putting on your swimsuit, apply a thin layer of SPF all over your body and face to ensure your skin is well protected. You might just miss out on any area while you are outside, this step helps to make sure all spots are covered with sun protection. If you expect to spend a lot of time at the beach or poolside, choose a water-resistant sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher.
Lip Care
Aside from the body and face, using a lip treatment with SPF 30 will also protect your lips from UV damage. Our lips are the thinnest layer of skin and don’t have a protective outer layer, so you might be prone to chapped, dry lips if you’re not applying lip balm with SPF while you’re out.
Re-Apply Sunscreen
There’s a reason why sunscreen is recommended to be applied every 2 hours, with constant sweating and being in the water your sun protection will wear off. Keep your SPF handy while also wearing a sun hat and sun-protective clothing while your out of the water. If your skin feels rough and dry after being in the water, apply some aloe vera to prevent getting sunburnt.
The next time you’re planning to spend your summer days in water, reach for these secrets that will work best for your skin to avoid any long-term sun damage and even prevent getting sunburned.
