Unlike many other elves, Ecthelion is a rowdy, cheerful, and bright Noldorin Elf. He is the way he is because, despite everything, Ecthelion is considered young as an elf and optimistic by nature. He is highly empathetic and is prone to feel distress or any signs of discomfort or of upset by people around him. It is because of this, Ecthelion feels a sense of obligation to make people around him smile. He could not bear to them upset or cry and tends to make jokes or play the music is just to see them smile again.
However, he could adopt a completely different demeanor during battle. Ecthelion is dauntless as a soldier. He is not strict in his conducts but he would not tolerate his people to cross his line. He is kind, but will not act foolishly if it is required of him. Due to his birth, he could sustain under harsh environments and is one of the toughest Elves to take down. He plays his role well in groups or single-combat. He is easy to get along through his over chatty personality might be annoying to some.
His Parents And Hs Birth On The Helcaraxë
His father was a loyal servant of Fingolfin and was part of the group that went with Fingolfin who was later abandoned by the House of Feanor in Araman. During the crossing, Ecthelion’s mother was pregnant with him and eventually gave an early birth shortly after they cross over to the Helcaraxë. She managed to conceive her child safely, but Ecthelion’s father perished trying to defend both of them. Somehow, Ecthelion survived the crossing. Perhaps it had done him some good that would serve him in later years, for the harsh environment caused Ecthelion to grow up strong and healthier than his peers and full with energy.
Growing Up
He was raised by his mother as they followed Fingolfin’s host. As the only Elfling in the group, Ecthelion had no playmates or peers. But that didn’t stop him from enjoying his childhood. He would climb trees and hunt at his leisure and swim in lakes and rivers they happened to come across. He had a love for spears and shields, so he was trained to be a soldier to aid in any future war.
As a child, he would often play his flute in the forest. His melody drew many small animals and birds near him. Eventually he was known among them, and Ecthelion in turn learned to read animals and give them commands.
Pledging Loyalty to Turgon
As one of Fingolfin’s best men, at some point he was given as a gift from Fingolfin to his son Turgon. After that, Ecthelion followed Turgon as closely as a brother and a faithful follower. His mother remained with Fingolfin until Turgon established Gondolin, Ecthelion received his mother to live with him.
