“…Th-that’s true….b-but I don’t like humans….” Shay let out another shaky breath. “…Gavin….c-can you walk with me to the….the human hospital? I-I think it would be best if I was treated in th-this form….and I don’t think I can sw-switch right now anyway…” 

She could tell he was worried despite his calm demeanor. He was carrying the burden of helping her on his own shoulders…all by himself…

“……I’m sorry…”

     “Shay.” 

     He stares straight at her, a frown tugging at his features. 

     “Stop apologizing. It’s not your fault. You should not be apologizing for this. At all. In this whole situation only one thing ought to apologize. And right now, we don’t need to focus on it. We need to get you to proper medical care. Lean on me if you feel any dizzy spells. The hospital I remember is not far off and we can get there within maybe ten minutes. Try to hold on, and once we’re there they will likely whisk you off to a room. If they don’t let me stay by you I can switch forms and easily sneak in.”

     With that being said, he starts guiding her in the direction of the hospital.

“Not at all. In this realm, you are under my care. My duty is to protect until you pass on. Even if it weren’t, and do pardon me if I am being too forward, I consider you and others like you to be worthy of my trust.

“If you do feel the need to pay me back, I have come to be quite fond of the Gracedia flowers your kind bring to bloom. Some of those would not go amiss near the front of the cabin, I think.”

     “Then I’ll make sure there’s quite a few for you when you return. I promise. I’ve been practicing it, and I think I’ve gotten good enough at them that you’ll really like them. If there’s anything else from me you want, please feel free to ask. I’ve never had someone kind enough to offer me a temporary home.”

“…I-It’s okay….” Shay let out a shaky breath, looking back up at Gavin. “…Would you be okay with…taking me to a Pokemon Center? I-I don’t know if I’ll b-be able to…hold out much longer…” She looked back up at him with a scared expression, her eyes filled with terror and tears.

     “I can walk with you there, yes. If they let me stay in there with you, I can do so too. However, would a human hospital not be smarter? Unless you intend to revert forms. Since we are fully human by all technicalities, human medical facilities would treat us. A Pokemon Center might look at you a little funny and redirect you to a hospital. If you do revert, I will be able to carry you and even act as your trainer, so that they can treat you properly there.” 

     It’s not that he isn’t worried, he is. But in times like these it is better to keep a cool. Be calm and collected. Be the pillar that everyone needs to lean on to feel safe and calm. To know someone is in charge, someone isn’t freaking out. At least on the outside.

Help? Yes. Xerneas needed help. Now more than ever. Even awakening to find he had been used for the Ultimate Weapon hadn’t been like this. It was unlikely the Gracedia Pokémon could provide the kind of help he needed, though. “I was…personally involved in today’s events.”

What Xerneas needed was someone completely removed from the day’s happenings. Someone so removed they didn’t even know of Heatran’s existence. No, more than that. Someone who didn’t even know Pokémon could have such relations, could walk and talk like humans.

And like that, Xerneas knew where to go.

     “I’m... sorry.” 

     There is honesty in his words. He really does feel bad. Horrible even. For everyone involved. This was some special kind of hell, and it looked as if many were involved. No one seemed to be walking out of this one unscathed. Mostly emotionally, but... A soft sigh escapes him.

     “If I can do anything to help you or repay you for the kindness you are showing me by letting me stay somewhere, please let me know. If I cannot do anything for you... Please take care.”

“You remember the forest in which we met, yes? I’ve a cabin there for my personal use. Feel free to use it as you see fit. I’m… I will be going elsewhere.”

     A pause, staring at the entity of life. Something was bothering him. Could someone as insignificant as Gavin even make a dent of a difference? He has to try. At least something nice in return for the temporary shelter. “Is there... anything I can do to help you? You’re troubled.” Might as well make the assumption now.

“….” Shay cast her gaze away from Gavin, clutching her injured arm tightly. It caused a surge of pain to go up her arm, but she didn’t care. “G-Gavin….I’m sorry…..this is…all my fault…”

     “If anyone is really to blame, it should be me for not being there.” And for not knowing how the hell to deal with this. This is some sort of special hell built for him, isn’t it? “I don’t know how to deal with this Shay. I’m sorry. I just don’t know what to do. There are things I don’t have answers for, things I don’t understand how to deal with. I’m homeless and spend most of my time in the wilderness I don’t... I don’t know what to do in this case.”

“There’s…a lot that needs to be worked through because of this. I would be a hypocrite if I said requiring space was unnecessary.” A pause. “However, I will be more than willing to lend you my home, if privacy is what you seek.”

     “A... place to stay?” As in a safe place? A place in general. Something Gavin didn’t have the luxury of. A pause. “If... you’re sure I won’t be a hassle. I’d honestly appreciate that.”

     “...I was afraid of that answer. Not that there isn’t a lot to fear here in general. I don’t think I want to be around here anymore. I don’t feel safe.” Gavin wrapped his arms around himself. “Maybe I should leave again.”

Shay squeaked in surprise as he suddenly took the lead, but soon after she allowed her smile to return. The flowers he picked out were all so pretty and colorful…of course a Shaymin knew what the perfect flowers were. Though as he led her to a secret section, she blinked in awe and curiosity. His hands were so skillful and nimble as he weaved the flowers together carefully. And as he placed the flower crown on her head, a bright blush rose to her cheeks, and she gave him another bright smile.

”Wow…..you’re so awesome!~ Hehe!~ Thank you~!”

     “You think?”

     He looked at the colorful crown sitting on her head. There might be a few mistakes in the weave of the stems, if he’s to be honest. He’s rusty with it. Probably should practice more until it’s second nature again to make them perfect. For now though, he knows for a fact that it wont fall apart. It’s nicely together and will stay that way. 

     “I am a bit out of practice. I should put more time into relearning the techniques. Might work better to have something perfected so it will last longer, yeah?”

She looked up at him when he got up. Done so soon. She would’ve like to watch a bit longer, but she didn’t mind. It was still nice to see a Shaymin in action.

❝I generally make forests in areas tha’ had no life. Reason why I made this forest. This land was barren when I first arrived. So I decided ta make my home here. I used ta make forests in lots of places, bu’ not so much now. Traveling is lots of fun! It’s how ya meet new people and discover new things!❞

Letting her natural power free of restriction, almost immediately, the gracideas grew slightly taller and straighter.

❝I’m still sure ya will reach your full potential in no time! Then ya will be able to make all the polluted areas pretty again!❞

     “Not saying I don’t do it well enough already, I do. I just can’t make it as perfect as a bunch of us can. I’m only one Shaymin, but that doesn’t mean I can’t do what we all do anyways. But it seems like I haven’t been able to find many. Which is a good thing. Means either more Shaymin are getting around or less areas are being polluted.”

     He supposed in the end it would make him useless if the world eventually stopped polluting areas, but again it would be for the best. An odd conundrum. His job would finish, but so would his use. Would he then die for that? Concerning. But not something he needed to think about. He locked eyes with Celebi and paused a moment. 

     “I think, giving life to the flora in horribly polluted places is the thing I ought to focus on the most. Maybe if my job ever finishes I should come back here to be taught to better myself at what you can do. Would you be okay with that?”

“…You don’t remember..?” Oh boy. “W-Well, from what I’ve seen, you celebrate birthdays by having good food, like a cake, and you get the birthday person presents and balloons. We can do that, if you want. Or we can just do something fun together…”

     “I didn’t know I had to do so much.” He pauses. “It would be worth it for you, but I do not see the point for myself if it was to be done for me. I move on too fast to be bothered.” He pauses a moment, and then shifts tracks in his speech, figuring that best left in the dust. “What kind of fun do you think is appropriate to have for a birthday?”

                       ❝ …Friends? Sure! ❞ 

            She answered without really thinking about it. That was a random question, but why deny him? As far as she could tell, there wasn’t anything about him that she should be wary about. He is a grass-type, but that’s nothing bad in Merea’s books. She can’t go around and let the natural type-matchup cycle influence her decisions in life. That’s not healthy. 

            She regarded his smile with a cherry one of her own. Merea didn’t know that he only asked for the handiness of her typing, but even if she did, she probably wouldn’t care.

     Gavin passed off a smile to her and then sat down in the field. The Shaymin patted the grass beside him, clearly inviting her to sit next to him. The first step in friends is to get to know your new friend. And that’s exactly what Gavin was going to make a point of doing. This way there’s a good starting bond there and topics to chat about in later meetings may even show up. This was mostly what he learned from watching humans. It generally worked, though.

     “Let’s get to know each other then. How about we start with favorites? My favorite colors are green and pink. Green as the grass here and pink as the gracidea in my hair. What about you?”

Hmm, so even land-pokemon had certain levels of power. That was good to know. Pokemon from her home called her a guardian, but she honestly had no idea what it meant. Possibly it was due to her species?. But his now known identity made her ponder. Shaymin? They sounded familiar…perhaps she’s seen them mentioned in a book somewhere? Maybe. It was likely. 

He found out she wasn’t human? That’s fine, because Mer surprisingly found out he wasn’t either; unusually quicker than her short attention-span allows. It may have mostly been to the little magic show he pulled, but she still found out. 

         ❝ I am a Manaphy. When I left my temple under the ocean,                                                I took the name Merea~ It’s nice to meet you Gavin! ❞

     “The sea? So you’re in tune with water, then.”

     He stared at her for a moment. Yes, this was one type he got along with very well. Water types were beneficial to him, as well as the fact they were a fire types worst enemy generally. He liked that. Very much. It would help a lot in the long run to have water type friends. However, as he was their weakness it didn’t do much for them to befriend him. But there was no harm in trying. One of his rare smiles found its way to his face, to appear kind. That was usually the best way to do it.

     “Would you perchance like to be friends, Merea?”

Shay giggled softly as Gavin moved to hold her hand, and after he spoke she pressed a tiny kiss to his cheek. “Hey, Gavin, we should celebrate together~! Birthdays only come once a year, after all.~”

     “I have a confession. I don’t know how to celebrate a birthday properly. Ever since I split for myself years ago I just... stopped celebrating things since I chose to go alone and there wasn’t much to do when you’re alone. I don’t know the first thing about how to celebrate a birthday anymore.” Idiot.

She grabbed his hand, letting him help her up. The hug was unexpected, but happily accepted. She was happy to know that her little gift made him happy. Hugging him back, she slightly rested her head against his shoulder.

❝You’re welcome, Gavin. I know it’s not much, bu’ I’m happy tha’ ya like it.❞

     “It’s more than enough. It’s enough that someone cared enough to bother in the first place.” 

     He gave her a smile before releasing her from the hug. Ever since he split from his group his life mainly consisted of solitary everything. Which meant mostly every holiday, including his birthday, was spent alone. It was new that someone would really care enough to bother. Which he’ll admit, is actually nice.

“So you forgot too, huh~?” She spoke in a teasing tone, skipping happily behind him before wrapping her arms around him. “Happy birthday to us!~ Hehe!~”

     “I don’t pay much attention to the passing days, my bad.” Gavin laughed. Unfortunately being hugged from behind doesn’t do much for you if you want to hug back, so instead his hands went up to gently hold hers that were around his front. “Happy birthday to us.”
