Sterling Sebastian | 17 | District 4 Son of Melosia and Aster Sebastian. Although Sterling is crazy about surfing and is the spitting image of his father- they're ultimately not that alike. Actually, Sterling takes after his Uncle Zale, with a penchant for playboy antics and partying. However, he's much more cocky and not quite as nice as his uncle was... and it sometimes gets him into trouble.

Headcanon: Don't Hurt the Ones I Love

It was no secret Aries and Sterling didn’t get along. They seemed somewhat similar perhaps, and in some ways they were. Both somewhat vain, both party boys who’s moral ground was grey. But their morals were very different, really and neither one trusted the other. Despite his bragging, Aries really wasn’t much into the business of hurting people and he was fiercely loyal to those he was close to. Family didn’t automatically make you part of that- given the distance between he and his father and obviously the mutual dislike between he and Sterling but he was close to most of his family.

Out of all his family, it was probably his sister, Raph and Marina that he was closest too. They got to see the softer side. So when he got a call from Marina, it wasn’t surprising. Even if he was hoping she didn’t want to make him into a merman again (she kept saying mermaid, no matter how many times he gently said ‘merman’). What was surprising was that she was crying. Because of Sterling. Even though they didn’t get along, Sterling had always been nice to Marina. Everyone was nice to Marina.

She continued to pout at him, crossing her arms over her chest not sure how to feel about all of this. Hurt was one thing that’s for sure, but she wasn’t sure if she should be taking this personally or not. Sterling didn’t act this way especially not to her and she was confused. Taking a deep breath, Marina nodded her head. “Alright…fine…I guess I get it. Sorry I made you mad, I’ll go, let me know when you’re in a nicer mood.” she said in an upset tone still trying not to cry because she didn’t usually do that despite how easy it looked for her to let tears run down her face. Marina took a few steps backwards, moving closer to the door waiting to see if she would get an apology or if he would just storm upstairs without another word.

"Just get the fuck out!" Oh yeah, he was really going to regret this later. But right now he couldn't bring himself to care- facing away from her she couldn't see it but he was sweating and the tremor's were affecting his arms as well. He just wanted a fix to make the pain go away, to make everything feel good again. Poor Marina was copping the fallout.

Marina jumped when he shouted at her, obviously, this was new to her as well. She tried not to burst into tears right there because she was a tough cookie and that simple thing shouldn’t make her cry. But this was family, family yelling at her for something she does daily and she couldn’t say that it didn’t hurt. The tears were welling up in her eyes even though she mentally told them to stop.

"Why are you being so mean Sterling?" she asked, her voice was very soft now in fear of this simple question (with no continuation of more unnecessary words) would make him even angrier. She rubbed at her eyes to prevent any tears but even without them you could see how hurt she was, not that Sterling saw since he wasn’t looking at her.

He could hear it in her voice, but in his need for a fix it just raised his hackles. "I have to go." He repeated, "So can you just.. get out." He was going to regret this later- not just because of the angry mob that would come after him for upsetting Marina but because he had upset her. At some point when his mind was straight again and he was off the drugs then he would regret this and many other moments.

Just being told to stop talking was new to Marina, not that she has never been told that, but it has never been said to her so rudely. Usually her mom or teachers would politely ask her to tone it down or if she can pause for a second so someone else could talk but never had she gotten a “just…shut up.” This caused Marina to stop for a second and think because of how new this rudeness was.

"Oh…o-okay I’m sorry…" she said more quietly, a frown making it’s way to her face and her big blue eyes slowly filling with sadness. "I’m sorry if I’m bothering you, I didn’t mean to Sterling…I just wanted to see how you were doing but I guess you aren’t doing too good then." she knew that she should have stopped talking but she couldn’t, words just seemed to continue to come out of her mouth and she hoped she didn’t make him more upset.

"Shut up Marina!" He pressed both his hands to his head and took a deep breath. Cod, he had to get her out of the house before he completely lost it. Had to get out of the house himself before he lost it, get back under control before someone got home and somebody other than Marina found him this way.

He tried not to look at her face, forcing his hands to leave his face and lower back down to slip into his pockets again. "I have to go." He said simply, hoping it would just be that easy.

Even though he said he was fine, he looked kind of sick to her. Maybe he caught a cold or had a headache, she thought to herself. “Well that’s good to hear! I wouldn’t want you to be…not fine.” she said with a little laugh at the end.

"Aw, grounded? Sterling you’re so silly, what did you do to get grounded?" she asked him and giggled taking it as more of a joke if anything. Marina saw the good in everybody so she didn’t think that Sterling was capable of doing something bad enough to get himself grounded, but she didn’t know that he was telling her the truth.

It wasn't like he didn't love Marina. Actually, other than Hazel, she was probably who he was most protective of. Usually. But right about now he was making a pretty good mess for himself and pushing everyone away while he was doing it. He couldn't think straight, didn't feel like a normal human being.

He ran his hands through his hair and said rather tightly, "Marina.. can you please stop talking? Just.. shut up. Please." It was about as polite as he could make himself sound right now although he was really one thread from unravelling. He didn't want to yell at her but much like the way he couldn't stop his hands from shaking, he wasn't very much in control of himself right now.

Marina grinned widely when she saw Sterling, standing herself up straight and bouncing on the tips of her toes. When he said it was just him, she assumed as much. She thought Aster was probably at work, Melosia might have been doing grocery shopping or spending time with Mrs. Emery and she wasn’t sure where Hazel could be but she was glad to see Sterling. She had always been somewhat close to him, though Hazel said he was always a jerk, he was usually nice to Marina so she didn’t see where Hazel would get jerk from.

"Hi Sterling! How are you? It’s been so long, I missed you! I haven’t seen you in forever!" she started, trying not to talk too fast but she couldn’t help it, it was her excitement. "What’s up, watcha been up to?" she stopped herself before she could go overboard and ask him a million questions before he could even get a word in.

It was kind of hard to focus on her when he felt like the world was spinning around him. The background sounds were louder than the words she was saying and focusing made his head pound. "I'm fine." He said shortly, not returning the sentiment. He didn't want to stop for a conversation, he just wanted to get her out of here so he could go and get his fix.

"Nothing. Been grounded so you know, nothing is really going on." He tried to brush the conversation aside but he knew Marina and he doubted she was going to let it go. But dammit he just wanted something to make the world feel normal again.

Marina hadn’t gone to see her aunt Melosia and uncle Aster in a while and she thought it would be nice to see them. After all her time being spent with Aidan and Hunter she didn’t have time with Hazel or Sterling so she decided it would be nice to go see them. 

Making her way over to her cousins house, she knocked on the door before poking her head through the door. Either someone was home or they thought leaving the door unlocked was a good idea but she was sure it wasn’t the latter. “Hellooo? Anyone home?” she called out innocently knowing that nobody would mind her dropping in unexpectedly like this.

Sterling had been pacing around in his room, feeling somewhat anxious. He needed a hit. He'd already been starting to get into things a little heavier in the party scene but after he was grounded he was sneaking out and doing more and more. Drinking more and trying things he was offered at parties. Now he was drinking and using everyday... except he was getting jittery since he hadn't had his fix for today.

He groaned to himself when he heard Marina downstairs. He was in no state to deal with his eternally perky cousin right now but being the only one home he was going to have to. Pulling on his jacket and cramming his hands into his pockets he took a deep breath and tried to act calm as he left his room and headed downstairs. "Just me, Marina."

Neither of them will be happy with you until you do apologize. Besides, I know you're just refusing to do it, not because you're a rebel with a cause, but because you're embarrassed. They might too dumb to realize that, but I know you.
