It looks like @gooseisland Are bringing out a new label with heavy emphasis on the 'IPA' aspect - new on the left, old on the right. I get that you need to try and stand out on the shelf and you want the customer to know immediately that the beer is an IPA, but I think I prefer the old label which is more unique compared to other beer on the shelves and helps me to identify the brand over the beer. Also, I always found this beer to be quite malty and a little bitter, and less associated to the 'bold hops' it mentions. Still, a good beer and one I continue to return to. Hopleaf Pale Ale by Simonds Farsons Cisk I haven't been in Malta long, but judging by the local beers I have tried so far I'm pretty sure I'm going to be leaving here without having sampled anything of note. This Pale Ale is the best so far...and is nice if you like hoppy water, as that's pretty much all it tastes like. No aroma, and an odd aftertaste, I won't be trying another of them. 3.8%. No Label by @brewdogofficial - purchased at @bottledogkingsx A hoppy Kölsch with a floral aroma and low carbonation, this seemed like a mix of lager and IPA with a subtle flavour which made it easy enough to drink, but also to forget. Produced as a transgender beer in support of the LGBTQI community, the label of this bottle is ironically more memorable to me than the beer itself. Summerfest by @sierranevada and delivered by @beer52hq There's nothing worse than working late in the office and being faced with a blank piece of paper, not knowing where to start mapping out a complex project. Especially after 7 attempts. And so I have turned to beer to get the creative juices flowing, and this refreshing lager is going down rather well. With a sweet malt flavour this seems to be sticking to my teeth like honey, and is very easy to drink. 5%. Saison 14 by Weird Beard, purchased at @bottledogkingsx The first sip of this beer was pretty sour and I wasn't sure if I should continue with it; eventually it did mellow out a bit and I got a light touch of fruits along with a dash of yeasty hops. Not unpleasant, but also not one I'll be reaching for again in a hurry. 5.6%. In this case it was a pretty sour apple, as sour is all I could taste in the few mouthfuls that I had of this beer. La Téne by Celt Experience and delivered by @beer52hq Imagine you've pulled something a little squishy out of the bottom of the oven. You look at it, and rub it between your fingers trying to figure out what the heck it is, and then eventually you smell it because that seems like the next natural step before you taste it. It smells familiar, but you can't quite put your finger on it...so you go in for the inevitable taste test and touch it tentatively with the tip of your tongue. Suddenly you realise it was a small piece of pineapple that had fallen off a Hawaiian pizza you reheated in the oven after the local pizza company delivered it cold, and 41 minutes late the other night. That's pretty much what I got from this bottle. A slight smell and aftertaste of what I recognised was pineapple, but only realising it after I read the label. Pretty hoppy otherwise, and a little too carbonated. Volcano IPAD by @barneysbeerfce1 and delivered by @beer52hq With the label design I was anticipating being whisked back to my time in Japan, and with a name like Volcano I thought the flavour would erupt as I tasted it. The beer did neither of those things, but it did provide a delicious hit of hoppyness with a dry finish and an aroma of bitter citrus. Honkers Ale by @gooseislandbeer It's American Craft Beer Week, and so I'm celebrating in much the same way as I celebrate the other 51 weeks of the year...with a delicious American Craft Beer! I'm a big fan of Goose Island and their IPA is one of my goto beers, so I was eager to try this ale when I saw it in a shop tonight. Though not quite as flavourful as the IPA, it's slightly malty to smell and taste, mildly bitter sand rather smooth to drink. A modest beer, but one I enjoyed. 4.3%. Oliver's Island by @fullersbrewery I was pretty excited to see a new permanent ale by Fuller's, a brewery that I really like and with whom I share a local connection. It's a golden ale, very light and citrusy, and really easy to drink. However it's unfortunately nothing special. In a line up of golden ales there would be nothing but the Fuller's branding that would pull me back in to this one.
