"Excuse me," Spencer addressed the blonde at the bar counter with one of her brightest, almost overly polite smiles. Some of the wine seemed to already have gone to her head, but she was still not about to get too open with strangers, even when in need of their help.

"This guy has apparently decided to be my stalker for the night. so if I could buy you a drink and pretend we are having more than enough fun on our girls' night out, I would be eternally grateful. You know, safety in numbers."

The bell of the department store made an obnoxious chiming sound as Spencer entered the old, yet very well maintained and prestigious building. The corner of her mouth curved up into a polite smile as she nodded her greeting to the owner - only one corner, however, and the muscle movement seemed exceptionally brief compared to the one normally performed by her family. But it seemed to suffice.

This was not where one would usually find Spencer during her days; she was never one to attend shopping matters of her own will and would normally pick up a book before any garment or accessory.

Yet, her mother, leaving her a note with instructions and an envelope with money, seemed to have a different idea. And Spencer did in fact require some new clothing.

She made a turn at one of the aisles, when a familiar golden-haired figure disappearing around the corner made her stop in her track.

"Hanna? Hanna... Marin?" she called out cautiously.

Before Paris

Spencer was born and raised to become a part of a higher society, which, at first, influenced her views on the world a lot - until she met Alison, and, for the first time in her life, connected with people outside of her class, introducing her to a whole new world.

With Alison disappearing and eventually presumed dead, the girls seemed to part once again, lacking the adhesive of their group.

Paris

Spencer’s father has recently been offered a job in the court of Paris, thus causing the Hastings family to move to their vacation house in said city, which has, under the circumstances, now been turned into permanent living quarters.

Her father has always been, despite his family, married to his job, but the move to Paris and the new job, combining with keeping up appearances with his wife in the new surroundings, escalated the term to Spencer barely seeing her parents (or sister, who, for the most part, seems to have made a life for herself) at home.

She mostly smiles politely on the outside, but her intellectual mind is bored beyond reason, which is why she often spends her days reading whatever she can find.
