an open letter for fanfic readers:
if you follow me, you have probably seen posts i’ve made or reblogged about this topic before. but, talking with a few writer friends, i’ve realized that this is something that is still bothering writers, and even making people feel like giving up on sharing their work. yes, i am once again talking about leaving feedback, comments and reblogging fics.
and yes, it’s ok if you’re tired of me talking about this, i’m tired of doing it too. but imagine this: you have a talent, or maybe you just like doing something a lot, and you decide to share that with people so you do just that. it goes well, people leave likes on your work and you know they must enjoy it, but at the same time no one says anything. they don’t share what they thought, how they felt reading it, the bits they enjoyed and you end up thinking ‘damn, do they actually like what i’m putting out? was it good? where can i improve? what did i get right?’ it’s a weird feeling, because the thing is human beings are highly influenced by their ego and when you’re a creator, feeling like people are not really enjoying or not even knowing how they feel about your work, you can lose your motivation. because why would i put work out if people are not connecting with it?
and i get it, sometimes you don’t know what to say, can’t find the right words to express how you felt reading something. or maybe you’re shy to reblog and leave a comment on the tags. i really get it, that’s why i’m making this post and bellow you’ll find some tips on how to leave comments on fics to help you out on supporting your favorite authors!
and to my writers friends feel free to add anything you’d like to this post!

Plush Puppies (Tyler Seguin)
You walk around the carnival, your boyfriend beside you covered head to toe in plushies. He points to a nearby game he hasn't played yet, hoping to score another plush toy. As the two of you head up to the game, an older lady with her grandchildren honours Tyler for winning and carrying all of these plushies for you. You just smile and thank her, giving Tyler a look as the two of you head towards the last game.
"Are you sure you don't want one?" he asks as you help him carry his haul out of the carnival and back to your car. You can tell he feels bad since the lady made the assumption these were for you. You reassure him that you still have the one he got you from your first date together, and that his idea is a much better use for them. "Babe, it's ok, really. If I wanted one I would've said so when you were picking them out. Believe me, the dogs will get a lot more use and enjoyment out of them. Especially Gerry, he'll think he's in doggy heaven.
And boy were you right. The moment the two of you walked in with the toys, the three boys were all over them. You had planned on stashing some and pulling them out as others got destroyed, but somehow the dogs managed to get their paws on every single one before you could snag some to put away. However, seeing the image of the three pups tuckered out and passed out in a pup-plushie pile was worth it. And the smile on Tyler's face let you know he thought the same thing.
Pose (Auston Matthews)
All you did was ask for him to pose nicely for a photo. Just one. But being with Auston was never as easy as getting one nice photo that wasn't candid. Luckily, you snuck a few of those, but you just hoped for once he'd pose nicely for one. Yet here you were, snapping photos as he made the cheesiest and meme-iest poses and faces. You're just thankful the boat looking over the Falls isn't that busy so less people are seeing the man child that is your boyfriend.
You're thankful when an older lady comes up and asks if you'd like a few photos together. You hand her your phone and stand next to Auston, making a deal with him that you can do a few silly ones so long as you get a few nice ones, too--your mum will be thankful to be able to include you on the Christmas card this year after all.
As the lady is about to hand you back your phone, Auston holds up a finger and says he wants one more. As you're turning back to join him for his last photo idea, you see him get on one knee, pulling out a small black velvet box from his sweatshirt pocket. That's when you realize that you're now in front of the Falls, making for a perfect backdrop to his plans. "Y/N, I honestly had a whole thing planned but all my words escaped me. Thank you for putting up with my antics and for loving and supporting me unconditionally, even though it means me being out of town for much of the year. Will you do me the honour of spending the rest of our lives together, and putting up with my antics for the indefinite future?" You nod, a smile crossing your face from ear to ear. The few people on the boat cheer and whistle as Auston puts the ring on your finger and kisses you, picture perfect in front of the Falls.
Taking Sides (William Nylander)
Will had invited you to the set of Leaf to Leaf to see how things operated, figuring his laid back Leaf to Leaf with close friend Kasperi would be a good time to do it. What he didn't account for was the fact that the three of you together in a room meant neverending chirping and distractions from the task at hand. Even as you tried to stay quiet in the corner, watching the boys get set up, you could hear Kappy starting up his usual teasing comments that led to you two arguing like an old couple more than you and your actual boyfriend would.
What made this Leaf to Leaf even more unusual than the rest was that the producers thought it'd be fun to let the audience know you were behind camera and that you should give input as you saw fit, hoping to give viewers just the slightest bit more dirt on the boys than they already had.
So now you were mic-ed up in front of the boys, just behind camera, watching as the boys ask each other questions from their cue cards. And when Kappy decides to make an exposing comment on one of your boyfriend's answers, you see your time to attack. "You know, you say that about Willy like you don't do that more than he does," you quip. Kasperi glares at you and the producers, knowing he couldn't fight back. Willy states his shock that you're siding with him instead of exposing him, and looks at Kappy with a face of sarcastic shock that Kappy returns, salty that this whole interview is now a 2 vs 1 with him at the disadvantage. At the end he suggests that they should bring on his girlfriend next time, to which you and Will laugh, knowing she would side against him for humour anyway.
Dog Days of Summer (Tyler Seguin)
"Come on Gerry, look your brothers are in!" Tyler encouraged his pup, the look of worry evident on Gerry's face. Tyler knew that Gerry wanted to join his brothers and would be having fun in no time-- this happened every time they had pool time together. Gerry would linger at the edge watching the other two longingly until Tyler pulled him in, only then would Gerry begin to relax and enjoy pool time with his brothers.
"Why not get the other two to jump in with you to show Gerry how it's done and that it's ok?" you suggest, watching all of this unfold from a poolside chair. So that's what Tyler did. Except what he didn't expect when he jumped in was to get pounced by not two but three full sized labs.
Finally returning to the surface from under the weight of the three, Tyler gives you a look like he's about to jokingly scold you for such a suggestion until you point behind him in the pool. "Look- Gerry jumped! I knew I was right," you smirk at him before returning to your reading materials--until you feel a tidal wave hit you. Oh boy was Tyler in for it, and you knew the pups would be on your side the whole way.
Drunk Confessions (Mitch Marner ft. Auston Matthews)
When Auston called you to come pick the two of them up, this wasn't how you imagined your evening going. Yet here you were now, helping Auston usher a drunk Mitch into the back seat of your small sedan before heading back to your shared place with Auston. How Auston was fine and Mitch was so messed up you didn't know, but you definitely wanted to find out. Usually when you were dealing with one drunk, you were dealing with the both of them.
You get Mitch situated on the couch, where he promptly lays down across the footstools/ottomans you have in front of the couch; even sober Mitch enjoys laying on them, he says they're comfier. Auston heads off to use the restroom and change into comfier clothing while you stay back and keep an eye on Mitch.
You start flipping through channels to find something of common ground on when you hear Mitch mumbling what starts off as incoherent garble while looking at you. After watching him trying to find the right words he says "You know, you- you're always here for me, for us, for the boys. You always take care of me like a good mom." You thank him and reassure him you do it because you care about him and the others, but that doesn't seem to be enough for him. "You know, you're the bestest friend I ever had. Iunno what I'd do without you. Iunno what Auston would do either, he says so himself y'know," Mitch says with a smile on his face, finishing his statement with an affirmative head nod, content with what he said.
You look up and see Auston standing in the hall entryway, looking at Mitch with a mix of amusement and betrayal. "So I'm not the best friend anymore I see," he says, half amused. You laugh at his remark and quip back "Yeah but I mean, clearly you guys would be lost without me soooo... it's only fair?" Auston chuckles and gives you a quick peck on the lips before heading to the kitchen to get water for himself and Mitch. You loved your boys, no matter how much work they were.
Bonjour
Sooooo I’m probably not gonna keep this blog going. I know I’ve threatened this before but this time I’m serious. The lack of interaction is extremely discouraging and I’m kinda over it. Notes are great, don’t get me wrong. That means someone liked what I wrote. Reblogs are even better because someone liked what I wrote enough to put it on their blog. But I get no requests, no anons, my willy post got two comments and those were the first two comments that weren’t from my best friend in a long time. Interaction is a huge motivation for writers, especially here and if we don’t get it, we don’t know if we write more of something or if we need to change something. Feedback is key! I would love to do requests too, I thrive off prompts but I have never gotten one. With that being said, I haven’t made up my mind to leave yet but if I do, this blog won’t be deleted. I just won’t post anymore. I might give everything to my best friend and she can keep it all on her blog, idk. I’ll let you all know when I’ve made my final decision. Thank you for joining me this far and for the new followers I’ve gained the past week, sorry. ~ Taya
My requests are open if anyone wants to drop anything!
She's a wonderful writer with a wide range of kpop groups and hockey players! Request anything from her 😊💕
Please take pity on me lol

I'm Gonna Teach You (Jonathan Toews)
You stay seated, watching everyone else filter out of the rink. The boys had done a community day at one of Chicago's outdoor rinks, which had recently come to an end and most people led out. Jonny said he wanted you to stay back, but wouldn't say why, which is why you sat anxiously watching everyone leave. A few minutes after the last few people trickle off, you hear Jonny's signature whistle for you to your right, where he's standing, still in his Hawks jersey and full padding, the snow gently falling around the two of you.
"You stayed back," Jonny remarks, a smile gracing his features. He starts pulling you towards the ice, seeing you still have your skates on from your two seconds on the ice when the crowd died down. "Of course I did, why wouldn't I?" you say while giving him an inquisitive look. "What are you doing?" you ask when he gets you on the ice and hands you his hockey stick. "We're gonna shoot some pucks," he replies nonchalantly like it's something you two always do.
"Jon, I can barely stay standing on the ice, what makes you think I can skate /and/ play hockey?" you ask while holding onto his arm. He wraps his arms around you and helps you hold onto the stick, hands over yours. "I'm gonna teach you," he promises before guiding you to a nearby puck and helping you swing and hit it into a nearby kiddie goal. You end up staying on the ice until the guard on duty lets you know it's nearly 10pm, indicating you've been out on the ice for nearly 3 hours. You've never been gifted on the ice nor do you much enjoy it, but Jonny has a way of making every moment worth it.
My posts are getting a lot of attention so I’m putting this out here now so y’all can unfollow me now and I don’t get hate and shit later. Patrick Kane is my number one, that’s not gonna change and I’m not hiding it. Thank you for coming to my ted talk
Long Ass Ride-Tyler Seguin
A/N: wow two uploads in one hour whoops. Also, if you know what the title means, you the real mvp. If you don’t then just ignore it. ~ Taya
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You breathed out deeply as your shaking hands gripped the safety bars. You fought back and forth between wanting to keep your eyes closed and wanting to screw them shut. This was a mistake. A horrible, horrible mistake. It didn’t matter how much money was involved, you shouldn’t have done this. Your stomach was long gone and you felt like you were going to pass out at any second. The only positive thing about the situation was that most rides were under two minutes. Only two minutes of torture and you would be free and you’d never have to do this again.
“You okay over there?” You heard a voice ask. You didn’t know anyone sitting next to you, this was a solo mission, so you didn’t think they were talking to you. That was until you felt someone touching your hand. You opened your eyes to see the man next to you looking at you, both in amusement and concern. “You gonna make it?”
“Good question.” You said, your throat dry and hoarse.
“Seriously are you okay? You’re really pale. I’ve seen plenty of people pass out, I know that pale.” He said, studying you.
“I’m just ready to get this over with.” You said honestly, wondering why it was taking so long to get started.
“Is it the height?” He asked.
“And the speed.” You admitted.
“With a reaction like this, I’m sure there’s a good reason you’re having a panic attack right now.” He smirked.
“My friends said they’d pay me $200 if I did this. Being broke makes you stupid too.” You said, shaking your head at yourself.
“I’m sure it’s more than the money. I think you wanna prove to yourself you can do it too.” He said, cocking his head to the side.
He wasn’t wrong. You did want to prove you weren’t the wuss everyone said you were. You just wanted to do it once, then never again.
“They really sent you up here by yourself though? Your friends are assholes, no offense. If I knew someone I cared about was this scared, I wouldn’t let them do this alone.” He told you.
“It was part of the deal. They’re down there waiting for me, probably recording the whole thing and expecting me to come back crying.” The anger you had felt was rising, almost making you forget you were dangling in the air.
The ride operator went to the control panel and began getting the ride ready to depart.
“Don’t give them the satisfaction. Don’t let them beat you. You’re already beating the ride just by being here. You already won.” He tried to assure you.
The ride began to move, taking you up the hill that would plunge you to your doom.
“Fuck me,” you groaned, screwing your eyes shut, gripping the bars so tight your knuckles turned white.
“I’ll buy you dinner first,” He man chuckled. “For now, just hold my hand. Squeeze as hard as you need to. Keep your eyes closed if you need to. Don’t worry, I’ve got you.”
You felt his hand touch yours and without even thinking you grabbed onto him for dear life. His hand was warm and rough but the feeling was comforting and welcome. You actually felt somewhat safe, but not enough to open your eyes.
“We’re about to drop, hold tight.” He told you, then seconds later you fell.
You screamed the whole way, hating every second of the ride itself. The man whose hand you held screamed too, having the time of his life, laughing and squeezing your hand right back.
If it hadn’t been for the fact that you felt like you could die at any second, you wouldn’t have minded this. You liked holding his hand and his laugh made your stomach do flips in a different way than they had before he talked to you. You were almost sad to know that once this ride was over, the kind stranger would be gone forever. You opened on eye, peaking over at him, watching him smile and laugh, even take little glances at you.
He was handsome, really handsome. His scruff made him look like a “manly man”, which was different for you but you didn’t hate it. His hair that had gone to his ears in slight curls flew back, he looked almost like he was flying.
The ride came to and end, you would almost say too soon. You didn’t let go of the mans hand until the operator came to unbuckle you and let you off.
“You did great. Did cry or break my hand or anything.” The man congratulated you as you walked off the ride.
“Thanks. I’m sorry if I ruined your ride or anything. Thank you for being so sweet.” You said shyly, avoiding looking at him.
“You didn’t ruin anything.” He laughed. “I didn’t mind at all. No one should have to do things they’re terrified of by themselves. I’ve done that before and it messed me up. And I definitely didn’t mind holding your hand.”
You could feel your cheeks flare up, you were sure you looked sunburned.
You saw your friends waiting and stomped over to them, still pissed off.
“Alright assholes pay up. And then I’m leaving, I’ve had enough of you guys making fun of me for the day.”
They sighed and gave you the money, grumbling that you were no fun and they wanted to leave anyway.
You stuck the money in your pocket and began to walk to the exit before you were stopped by someone grabbing your arm.
“Hey,” It was the man from the ride. “I meant what I said before.”
“About holding my hand?” You asked, slightly confused.
“Well that too.” He chuckled. “About taking you to dinner. You’re unbelievably cute and I’d very much like to get to know you.”
“I don’t even know your name.” You said, unable to form any other words.
“It’s Tyler. I’m not a murderer I promise. My life isn’t secretive enough for that.”
You didn’t know exactly what he meant by that but found yourself giving him your name anyway.
“So what do you say? Wanna go grab something to eat? Or is your stomach not recovered yet?” He asked.
“It’s getting there but I’m sure it’ll be fine once we get to wherever you have in mind.” You assured him.
He smiled at you and took your hand again. Maybe roller coasters weren’t so bad after all.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Has anyone seen Will?” Sheldon asked as he looked around the ice.
The team has forgone a breakfast this morning and done a lunch instead in exchange for a later practice. Everyone was there, on time and had been ready to go.Now it appears not all was going according to plan.
You had agreed to come to the practice today since you the next game was in Buffalo and you wouldn’t be able to make it. It was a deal you and Willy had, a practice for a game. But now you sat in the stands, watching Zach do figure eights and Mitch tie his skates, because let’s be honest the boy was a mess.
You had shown up to practice with Willy, you knew he was there. You had only left him alone so he could get his gear on. Where was he? Was he feeling okay?
“Last I saw he was in the locker room.” John told Sheldon, who was getting redder and redder.
“Just came from there, no Willy.” Kyle said, taking his seat on the bench.
“Maybe lunch didn’t sit well with him.” Soupy shrugged, stretching out in front of the bench.
“Well he needs to get his ass out her, we don’t have time for this! Someone find the kid!” Sheldon all but yelled.
You sighed and stood up, approaching the glass and tapping on it.
“I can go look for him so you can start practice. Soupy might be right, I can give him some pepto.” You suggested.
“It was just pizza, did he all of a sudden become lactose?” Sheldon asked.
“Doesn’t matter, start practice and she’ll find him. No use holding everything else at a standstill.” Kyle insisted.
You took off down the hallway, looking anywhere you could think he might be. Not in the locker room. Not in the weight room. Not in med bay. You even checked the bathroom to no avail. At this point you were starting to get worried. Where the hell was Willy?
You walked into the meeting room where lunch had been held with a sigh. He wasn’t there either. You turned to walk out of the room when your jacket swung out and knocked over an open jar of protein powder someone had forgotten to close. You picked up the jar to see Kappys name on it. You rolled your eyes and made a mental note to buy him another one. You looked around for a broom but didn’t see a dust pan. With a groan you stood up and headed off in search of one.
You reached the door to a smaller lunch room and opened it, having to push on it quite a bit to get it to open. You turned on the light and there sitting in front of you on a box, was Willy, shoving a piece of pizza in his mouth. He looked up at the intrusion and froze in place.
“What the hell are you doing? Practice is starting, Sheldon is freaking out!” You said, going inside, closing the door behind you.
“I was still hungry! No one would let me have seconds and I didn’t eat last night. I was gonna finish this piece and head out.” He explained, taking another bite.
“You’re such an idiot sometimes.” You sighed, ruffling his hair. “You’re gonna get yourself scratched.”
“Fine with me. I can take the day and eat all the pizza I want without anyone hogging it.” He glared at you, as if you had been the one to take his precious pizza.
“If you get yourself traded over pizza, I’m gonna kick your ass. Hurry up and get out there. And for the record, your stomach was bothering you, I gave you pepto, that’s why you were late. You can thank Soupy for the suggestion.” You told him, getting ready to leave.
“They’re saying I have a stomach ache? I’ll give them a stomach ache-“
“You want me to tell them where you really were?”
“Stomach ache it is.”
You rolled your eyes and muttered that he was a dork before leaving the pizza boy in peace, praying he would make it to next season.
Monkey See, Monkey Do (Auston Matthews)
(Photo not mine but this little drabble piece I wrote for my friend was inspired by this photo)
---
Auston finishes answering the last few press questions before heading off towards the back hallway of the rink where he always met up with you. He stops back at his locker to grab the last few things he needed, including a stuffed monkey a fan gave him before the game.
As Auston turns the corner, he sees you holding a ball of fluff yourself, in the form of your sweet but troublemaking 2 year old. He stands there holding the stuffed monkey out to your son as your let your son down and he starts running as fast as his little chubby legs could take him towards Auston, yelling "Dada" the whole time. He may love you, but he's always been and always will be a daddy's boy.
