He’s never seen that reaction before. Grabbing a cup he holds it under the faucet  and runs the water. The full cup is pressed into the poor kid’s hands while Roxas apologizes and rubs his back. He can’t eat dry food? So he should avoid things like bread and crackers.

|☩| ~ “On second thought I’ll just cut up fruit for you.”

The water is sloppy drained in seconds. Thank you so much friend, thank you! A lot of the water gets on him, but Scrap doesn’t mind at all. Instead he hides his face and whines about looking silly before headbutting Roxas.

“Rrrrrr! Heeeeeearrrrrrrrrrt!”

|☩| ~ “Right you haven’t had cookies before. They taste sweet, and they’re like bread.”

Chocolate chip was a safe start right? Picking one up and cracking it in half. Jut like with the apple he eats a piece before offering the other to Scrap. He could only guess that his new friend understood him.

|☩| ~ “They aren’t filling they just taste good. That’s why if you’re really hungry these don’t count as food. They’re snacks.”

Oh hey, if ‘Rrrrrrr’ is eating it, then it must be good! Scrap’s quick to take the other half, sinking his teeth in before coughing. Dry! Sweet but dry! He whines and runs of, knocking over chairs and clawing at the sink. It spits out water but how!?

The Bunny looks up at Roxas before opening its mouth, crumb covered teeth glistening with saliva before it chomps down on another cookie. The dry taste doesn’t bother it much.

|☩| ~ “You know you could just ask. What are you looking for anyways? Cookies?” 

The bunny is removed from the cupboard before it gets itself hurt and gently placed on the boy’s head, meanwhile Roxas grabs a bowl and fills it with the snacks he had. Might as well share the cookies and tiny cakes right?

|☩| ~ “ If you want actual food I made chicken strips and rice earlier. There’s also juice here if you’re thirsty.”

Scrap blinks, taking the Bunny into his arms. The Bunny chirps lightly, arm ears reaching into the bowl as it helps itself. Scrap sniffs it, unsure of the food. It’s not fruit and it’s not bleeding. What is it?

“Rrrrrr?”

It’s the closest he can get to saying his friend’s name. He chitters and pushes the bowl around.

How did Scrap get into Roxas’s current house anyway? Who cares, the Bunny is trying to get him sweet smelling things and he needs to be ready to catch them.

Lea puts hands on his hips, imitating the few times his father had been around to discipline. “Don’t you hiss at me, mister, I’m trying to help.” But he doesn’t advance any further.

What’s with... That tone is weird! Scrap remembers mean voices, but this isn’t very mean. And what’s with the posture?

Hands move to settle on hips as Scrap attempts to imitate the other. The bunny’s friend look between the two before attempting to imitate as well. Some more successful than others.

The chittering and growls unnerve him - how can they not, when they remind him so much of everything that had gone wrong here? But Lea was used to it, or growing so, and he doesn’t tear his gaze from Scrap, wary of the other human.

“Hey, are you listening to me?”

The sudden motion and sudden gesture take him by surprise, and Lea moves towards him, eating up the ground between them. “What’s wrong?”

Scrap growls, showing his teeth as his nails dig into the ground. The bunny’s friend gather around him, also baring fangs and making hostile sounds.

Approaching as Scrap retreats makes the other a threat!

Even if he doesn’t have a heart, the bunny’s friends will attack if he poses a threat to Scrap.

          |☩| ~ “Scrap no, don’t do that. You’ll get germs in the cut.”

          Before the heartless can give more bad advice, Roxas carefully places his hand over the wound, saying ‘cure’ and watching the magic work. It was still strange for Roxas to be sitting with heartless and not fighting them, but from the look of things they really did care about Scrap. Maybe he should teach them to fetch clean water.

          |☩| ~ “I should bring you some bandages next time.. For right now I have some fruit we can eat together. What were you climbing for anyway?”

          Hopefully Scrap liked fruit and they could plant some berry bushes in the places where dirt was showing through the cracked stone. Pulling an apple out and cutting half off to offer to the boy, biting down on the other half to show it was safe to eat.

Scrap flinches at the feeling of magic and some of the Heartless scatter. Magic usually leads to ouchies and ouchies lead to death. It’s how many died when the boy with many hearts came into the castle.

But this magic actually helps! Scrap prods at his cheek curiously, looking up at the strange word. Fruit? What’s that?

Oh, that’s what it is.

Timid fingers snatch the half, teeth sinking into it. It tastes... pretty good! He takes a bigger bite, noisily chewing as the bunny with his heart digs through where the apple came from in search of more.

Lea had been taking care of this place, and as many of the people as he could. His old home had fallen to shit after all, and it was the only thing he could do. And that included making sure fellow gross street kids got clean every once in a while! “Don’t you knash your teeth at me. Soap is good for you,” he explains, looking st the gathered shadow monsters with wary mistrust. Those were the things that kept scaring people away.

Ah, the familiar whispers of the shadows, chittering and growls that were soft and many...

Wait, what was that? A nervous chirp, followed by Scrap moving back a bit to gain some distance. The stranger doesn’t have a heart? The stranger’s like him?

Did the stranger come from the castle too?

He’s still not happy with Roxas for making a big deal out of him falling. But he does lift his head and slowly nods, letting the blonde see his cheek.

It doesn’t hurt too bad. He’s honestly had worse. A few of the ‘Heartless’ (according to Roxas) chitter helpfully and he follows their advice, licking his hands to wipe at his face.

“Hey! That’s for washing, not for throwing. Finding water isn’t easy, don’t waste it!” 

The young man who had left the bucket squawked, jumping out from behind the wall where he’d been hiding. 

Why clean if you were just going to get dirty again? That was Scrap’s motto anyway. And water wasn’t that hard to find, you just had to wait for rain and gather it.

A huffy grumble, glaring at the other. Kind of familiar. Had a heart, since there are eyes in the shadows watching the stranger’s every move. Scrap gnashes his teeth in disagreement.

“Wow are you okay?! You fell really hard.”

Nooo, bad friend! No pointing out Scrap being a clumsy thing!

He’s going to hide his face and try to hide the scrape on his cheek because Scrap is an amazing climber and never falls! Never!

Nope! Nope nope nope! Scrap wants nothing to do with that bubbly water! And he doesn’t want it anywhere near his castle!

With a hiss he lunges forward and shoves the bucket off the wall. A victory! A success!

Unsurprisingly there is high fatality in this.

          Even if he didn’t use words to say it, when the boy gestured at his chest and shook his head, Xion caught his meaning pretty quickly—or, she thought she did. That was where hearts were, if you had them. When he pointed to the Heartless, though… Xion hardly had time to consider what that meant before he moved close to her and pressed his face against her coat.

         “Oh!” He definitely wasn’t trying to hurt her, but his behavior was… odd. Xion hadn’t ever met anyone like this boy before. At least the sounds he was making sounded happy. Why was he acting so friendly? “You like… my coat?” she guessed. She was uncomfortable with having a stranger this close to her, but she wasn’t sure of exactly the appropriate response would be either. If he had some control over the Heartless, it probably wouldn’t be the best idea to make him upset.

He eagerly nods. Yes! Yes, he likes the coat! He tugs it again, wanting to keep it. Surely the strange girl can get another right? Scrap can’t, it’s dangerous to leave the ruins.

He whines as the bunny dances about and joins in the whining. He knows the bunny doesn’t know exactly what’s going on, but his heart in it can give the bunny clues. Together they try to take the coat so they can take it away to the safe room!

          Scrap… heart? Wait..

          |☩| ~ “So your name is Scrap… and that one has your heart?”

          Didn’t that make him a Nobody? This boy? Roxas cringed, reaching out to gently hug the kid, wondering if that was why he was all alone. He couldn’t imagine the heartless made good parents. 

          |☩| ~ “Are you hungry? Thirsty? Do you at least have a warm place to sleep?”

The hug is unexpected. Scrap blinks, staying still in case sudden movements make the stranger turn hostile. The bunny’s friends chitter among themselves, not sure if this is something they need to stop or not.

Hungry? Thirsty? Well Scrap’s a little hungry, but he has a nice fat rat in the safe room that he can eat whenever. Thirsty though... It hasn’t rained in a while and the juices from the rats don’t do much to take care of thirst.

He hesitates before reluctantly tugging the stranger to the safe place, grabbing his rat and holding it up to show before taking a bite.
