"The sounds of machines promising great rewards spiral within his ears. Gambling with his life, his potential lies inside of the result of his coin. He also wields a shoddy flintlock that feels like it could break at any moment, but it's one that he'll take to his death."

Tired, slow breathing. Two Time was on duty to watch the fire outside tonight, as Dusekkar needed her sleep for once. They stared down at the ground. Everything was cloudy. They couldn't see well at all, that fact was obvious. They just… never thought it'd get this bad.
But it was just another challenge from their glorious Spawn to test their devotion. To test how far they were willing to go. Hadn't they been tested enough, though?
..Whatever. Point is, they were pretty lost in thought, occasionally poking at the fire or adding kindling and lumber they'd collected to keep the flames alive. It was a simple process, one they could do with ease.
Chance stepped outside the cabin, rubbing the sleep out of his eyes as he readjusted his glasses. He had hoped to watch the stars tonight, but mist surrounded every edge of the camp like it was mocking his ruined plan. Chance lowered his gaze and sighed, about to return to his room when a soft orange glow cut through the mist and caught his eye. Was someone else on duty? Usually Dusekkar did it, but he would sit in a chair in front of the cabin at this time of the night.
Chance slowly walked towards the light, fidgeting with the coin in his hands and his mind wandering on all the possibilities of who could be at the fireplace. Builderman seemed like a fine choice for this. The old guy would definitely take over the night duty, Chance nodded. Suddenly he halted, the coin in his hands froze and a grin formed on his lips while the greatest idea ever popped in mind. He took a few steps back into the mist and circled the fireplace until he spotted a dark figure looming over the fire. Chance jumped forwards and-
"Boo! Got'cha~" The gambler exclaimed cheerfully but stopped in his tracks when he saw Two Time sitting on one of the logs. "Oh- Sup' Times! I thought ya were someone else, hehe." Chance quickly added.
He dropped down beside them and looked over with a gleeful smile.
They flinched at the jumpscare, looking over in a slight panic. The moment the familiar voice registered in their mind, though, they calmed themself.
"Hello, Chance." They'd replied, smiling at the gambler. This wasn't one of their usual smiles. Their usual smile lacked… well, everything. It was just something to occupy their face. This smile, though, was genuine. It creased their eyes, it made them look.. happy. Like they had something to live for in damnation.
"So, what's the plan?" He asked, slightly leaning forward and resting his arms on his legs. Chance kept his eyes on the cultist, happy when they smiled back. "Are ya just gonna sit here and stare at the fire all night? Do nothin' and be bored the entire time?"
He leaned back again and pointed a finger. "Tell ya what," he started, "I'm keepin' ya company for the night, and you play a round 'o Poker with me. Sounds like a great deal, right?"
Without waiting he pulled a deck of cards from his pocket and shuffled them in the air.
They paused, staring at the cards in confusion. They couldn't.. exactly see the distinct difference between the cards, nor did they even know how to play.
"Uhm. I.. apologize, dear friend, but.. what is 'poker'?" Guilt dripped from their voice. They felt bad, but they also didn't. If the Spawn hadn't introduced it to them yet, that meant it either wasn't for them or.. well, this was the time to learn.
He gawked at them, almost choking on his own breath. "Ya don't know Poker?" He asked in shock, mouth still open.
He moved a bit away to create more space between them and handed Two Time two cards and kept two to himself. "Don't show them to me," he continued, "I'll learn ya how to play Poker."
Chance shifted slightly and glanced at the cards in his hands, keeping his face the same like before. He looked back at Two Time and grinned. "But first, ya gotta bet an ante. Basicly a small bet like a few bux, but we can bet on somethin' else too!"

"Hey! What'cha chewin' on, ster?" Chance asked as he leaned towards her. He seemed to be in a good mood today.
she flinched, immediately hiding whatever it was in the pocket of their skirt.
” nothing. ” came along as an answer, quick and short before taking a breath and sighing- before squeaking slightly at a poke within the pocket, a face like someone that just got stung.
but remained as normal as possible. somehow. “ i- it’s nothing. why ask? ”
He didn't look conviced and subconsciously started flipping a coin. "Ya seem rather interested in whatever that might be. C'mon! Just tell me. I'm dyin' to know!"
He flipped the coin so high now that it slipped from his fingers and fell on the ground. "Oops," he muttered under his breath.
” oh my- what’s so interesting about me biting something? i wasn’t- thinking about anything. ”
she looked at their own slightly bleeding finger, huffing before putting her finger into their mouth to help the wound. half watching as his coin fell to the ground.
with their other free hand, she picked it up and flipped it back at them.
“ you’re dramatic as hell. you are not dying to know. ”
He caught the coin, his eyes locked on their finger. "Ya should get that patched up," Chance commented.
He moved a bit around, trying to catch a glimpse of what could possibly be in their pocket. "You sure ya don't wanna tell me what's in there? I'm great at keepin' secrets, trust me!"

I definitely abandoned this blog for way too long. I'll be honest, after taking a little burnout break, I got anxious to start again and ended up avoiding Tumblr in general. But I wanna give this another shot and rediscover the joy this blog brought me in the first place.
And as an extra apology for dissapearing: CHANCE DESIGN SHEET + HEADCANONS UNDER THE CUT 🔥
(also, I might not answer every question immediately. I'm taking things slower this time around)
-> He's breathing hard, knees knocking together as he leaned on one of the scarce trees that dotted the area. He finally managed to get away from the killer after admins knows how long of running around.

Elliot! Just in time, heh. Ya got some-...
[Chance falls silent as he takes in Elliot's posture. Eventually, a small grin creeps on his lips.]
Man, you look like ya just had a jukin' session with the killer.
Take a breather, alright? I gotcha covered if they decide to come back for round two.
"O-One that lasted longer than it should've!"
-> He breathed out a laugh, smiling at the gambler as he took shaky, uneven steps towards the other. He adjusted his visor, reaching into his bag right after.
"H-Here- Just- Please stay close, okay? I'm-"
-> Oh boy. He feels dizzy!
"Close to collapsing!"
