Re-think & Re-imagine the mundane and ubiquitous.
SUMMARY
On February 21st:
I set myself the brief to produce a body of work which challenges my creativity to advertise item & services which could be considered some of the most mundane or bizarre subjects.
Now, on the 31st May:
A-Z of Advertising the Mundane is a project which challenges my creativity, range of wit, humour and endless inventiveness. With the prospect of working within the industry of creative advertising, I showcase an inventory of creative imagery to revive the mundane in an a to z series. A broad basis of techniques and varying output won’t seize to bore. With no brands, only objects and services, I try to master the need for advertising to entertain and engage.
The project is hosted both by printed media and online; both working hand in hand. I designed the book as something which is precious, a pleasure to receive as an agency, showcases commendable production skills & is ambitious.
All the binding was completed today and then I had to take it back to the printers to have the sleeve fitted for the book. They also has my stickers and wrapping ready! Looking forward to putting the finishing touches together for hand in tomorrow!
I'm happy with how simple and clean you can make websites with Cargo. The orange details really compliment the book too.
I worked on having a splash page of the site too, but in fact keeping it nice and simple was better. The vibrance of the various gridded images get you stuck into the project straight away.
Website Design Tweaks
The colour scheme is coming together now, so I have the oranges of the books on certain parts and have orange boxes when you hover over the project thumbnails.
I also have added some sections for about the project and contact information.
AND...my favourite bit....I have an orange favicon!
soooo....
...the printers called today about the job that should have been finished yesterday.
They hadn't got my paper.
I chased them up today and I chose some new stock to print on, which intact looks so much nicer and I got a better deal with price.
So now:
Contents & Book End Papers is printed on Olin 150gsm uncoated
The wrapping is printed on 60gsm stock similar to bible paper.
BUT.... I got the sleeve printed on the Splendalux 250gsm which is gloss on one side and uncoated on the other, and on the way back home the ink has scratched off! So another job for tomorrow is to find new stock for the sleeve.
The books are now at the binders, so hopefully I'll have the book by 3pm tomorrow to take them back to the printers to get the sleeves re-printed and folded to the size of the book.
Website Development
My final task now is to complete uploading everything to the website and then tweak the design slightly. I am currently working on making the thumb nails all the same as now that they are seen altogether, unlike in the book, the coloured letters don't compliment anymore they just distract from the clean design.
I've uploaded the final logo as well and I have been thinking that maybe I will add a splash page which had the prop pattern on it with a nice big logo on to enter the website.
Everything is at the printers!
phew.
2 x copies of the contents on Munken Polar Rough 150gsm. - 64 pages - 280 x 210mm
2 x Sleeve on High Gloss for logo and uncoated reverse with pattern - 286 x 660mm
3 x The bookends on the Munken Polar Rough at 120 gsm. - 280 x 420 mm
1 x A4 sticker sheet with 45 different sizes on.
4 x large wrapping paper with pattern design on. 60 gsm.
New Book Sleeve Design
Using illustrations of the props used during the project I've created this pattern to go on the inside of the sleeve, this will also match the pattern on the end papers in the book.
Book Sleeve Design
I was planning on having the a to z images in the inside of the sleeve so the sleeve could be used as a poster too, but due to the thick stock and clean design I have so far created I think the a-z would look messy. Instead I was thinking perhaps I could have the prop illustrations inside to match the book ends.
Some illustrations for end papers.
End Papers for Book
The small details of a book are what make it so enjoyable and a pleasure to look through. With such consideration to the logo, colour options & type to compliment the imagery, I thought I shouldn't stop there.
The whole project has had such a lot of planning and organising that I have gained so so so many props since the project began! I have boxes full. Efforts into production sometimes go unseen so I thought it would be nice to have a simple yet graphic pattern made up of these props for the end papers of the book.
