Childcare has taught me again and again that 99% of kids have zero problems relating to fictional little kids who may not look exactly like they do, as long as they recognize them as a fellow little kid.

Adults, however, seem to have a lot of problems wrapping their heads around how quickly/easily their white four-year-old will identify with a fictional black girl.
