How To Use Social Media Responsibly
1. Remember: Respect and Tact can save lives
Cyber bullying isn’t new and should not be tolerated. We interact to a lot of people and we don’t know what they’re going through. Before you post something, be mindful of what of what you’re going to post. Think thoroughly. Maybe that post has a huge impact to them. It’s also no wonder that in social media it is where we express ourselves and we rant there when we can’t contain our emotions. Another one is stop making fun of those people who share their problems or thoughts there. Showing kindness and giving respect does not cost anything.
Learn when to speak\voice out our opinion if we know something’s not right. Learn to call out someone even if that person’s your friend and adore him\her. There are some instances that we’re too blind don’t want to call out something just because you adore that person too much. Even if that person did something wrong, we’d rather side with them. There’s no problem to voice out our thought\opinions as long as we’re not stepping others toes.
3. Avoid putting too much personal info
Whatever we feel, we tend to tell it on social media and sometimes we can’t help it but to post (everything) what’s happening in our lives. We should also know that there are people who waits for us to commit mistakes\downfall then that’s it. And when it comes to winning an argument, there are people who will stoop down level and attack their personal’s. To be blunt, everyone’s watching you. Also, hacker’s are everywhere. So we should limit what we post and we don’t know who’s who behind the screen.
Stop stealing someone’s work/ idea. Especially in arts; the reason why lots of artist lost their drive is because of plagiarism. Behind the artwork, there’s how the concept was made, the time they invested, the revisions and stuff like that. We don’t know all that. Instead of having a recognition that they deserve, this happen. It’s not that hard to ask for permission from the owner to repost their work. Yes, you received compliments and being praised but how can you even sleep at night, knowing you steal someone’s work and you know yourself those praises you receive, you don’t deserve it. There’s no glory of claiming the success of other people.
5. Avoid toxicity if possible
Social media is where toxicity is. However, we can still avoid it because we must protect our inner peace. If you see toxicity, scroll immediately don’t give it time coz you don’t need it. Block some accounts and mute some words if its affecting our mental health. Our mental health matters. If you know that it’s not healthy anymore, rest. It’s okay to cut off some people our your life and don’t let toxicity and negativeness overpowered/ruled you. Plus, we might not know it, sometimes we are the toxic ones. I think it’s fair if we admit our shares of fault and toxicity. Reflect even once in a while. Stay positive.
