In hindsight, you probably should’ve started studying earlier. Only in hindsight though.
But there you were, 2 in the morning, periodic table and formula sheets scattered about your desk as you tried to study for your upcoming chemistry midterm...at 9 am of the same day. As you continued plowing through the practice questions, the words just kept making less and less sense, the numbers scattering in your head as you struggled to even get them sprawled out in your notebook. Why did gases even exert pressure in the first place? What was the reason?
Burying your head in your hands, you were ready to accept that you wouldn’t be sleepingーyou had to pass the class and if the cost for that was a couple of lost hours of sleep, you’d have to take it. With a sigh, you got up from your desk, heading for the door. If you were going to be spending the rest of your night (or early morning?) holed up at your desk instead of your bed, you’d might as well be comfortable with a drink. But just as you reached for the doorknob, the door swung open and you jumped, startling the person on the other side as well.
Taking a second to recompose himself as he stood in your doorway, he smiled, his previously wide eyes smoothing into crescents.
“Sorry for bothering you.” the raven-haired boy apologized sheepishly, “Just wanted to check-in.” Glancing down at the water bottle and plate of cookies in his hands, he handed off the items to you. “Thought you might want these.” Despite how tired you were, you broke into a smile at his words.
“Thanks a lot, Minhee.” you took your roommate’s offerings gratefully, nodding your head towards your room, inviting him in. “How’d you know though?” you asked, looking up at him as you took a seat on your bed, setting the snacks beside you. His eyes narrowed at you, a playful expression dusting his face as he pointed at the desk behind you.
“Bruh, we’re both taking the same chem course.” he grinned, “I’m up for the same reason you are.”
“Ahh..” you nodded in recognition, remembering that indeed Minhee was in the same course as you, though his class section was later than yours was, until you remembered一
“Hey wait, wait, wait,” you jumped off your bed, pulling him towards your desk, “Do you get this question? I have no idea what’s going on here at all.” you asked, pointing at the question you’d been trying to work out for ages.
“Hmm, let me see.” Minhee bent down to get a closer look. His hair tickled the side of your neck as he leaned over your shoulder to scan through the page, sending a slight shiver down your side. Even through all the silly moments you’d had with him as your roommate, you couldn’t help the nerves that came with him getting close to you; he was really attractive after all.
“Scoot over,” Minhee gestured for you to move over, plopping himself onto the portion of the chair you’d cleared for him. Of the tiny desk chair that was way too small for the two of you that was. “Don’t worry, I got stuck on this earlier too but I figured it out.” he reassured, grabbing a pencil from your desk to teach you.
