“Let’s just say I’m not surprised they waited over ten years before having more kids.” Des rubbed the back of his neck, “It’s a little embarrassing but yeah my dad’s really into pie and I’ve never been a fan.” Nodding along he smiled, “It’s enjoyable, though, even though it can be a lot to get down. I love making animals feel better. Maybe I’ll settle on a particular group of animals one day but our vet clinic is pretty small so they need all the help they can get.”
Desmond’s mouth widened as he smiled, “That’s a really good idea. I probably should have wrote some silly short story about my pie nightmare but now it will forever haunt me.” He let out a laugh, “Nah, I’m pretty much over it.” Calming himself, he got a bit more serious, “Really, though, that’s a great idea and I’m glad that you were able to find inspiration from it. Sometimes the dark stuff can bring you down but you can usually find hope somewhere.” Desmond shook his head, “Yeah, man. I’m always dancing. i see her around a lot, too. She’s such a good dancer. It’s mostly just for a hobby now and my lessons are free for anyone who signs up. I used to charge but now I don’t really need to.”
“All of my siblings have different personalities but I think we get along fine. I mean sometimes we act mad at each other or annoyed but it’s never anything serious. I think it helps that I have a twin. It’s like having a built in best friend. Oh, I like it here a lot more. I just get too homesick anywhere else.”
“Ten year age gap? Wow, that is a long time. So how old are your siblings then? If you don’t mind me asking.” Quirking a smile, Holden let out a small chuckle. “I can get that. I’m not super big on pies either. Except for pumpkin. I’ll admit that I get pretty excited for pumpkin pies around this time of year.” As Des nodded, Holden couldn’t help but mimic the action as he listened. “I think that’s great though. Someone should be looking out for them. I mean, I don’t think a lot of people actually think about that kind of stuff. So it’s nice that you do. Do you do surgeries as well or just normal procedures?”
“Hey, you can still try it out now. Maybe it’ll work. Hell, I still write down all my nightmares. My novel that I’m doing now has a lot to do with the things I see in my head which might make me sound a bit crazy but really when you think about it all authors are a little mad if you think about the things that they conjure up in the minds.” Holden shook his head and laughed. “Thanks but like I said, I really got to give all the credit to my mom. She’s truly inspirational. An amazing woman who really helped me become who I am today.” His mouth relaxed into an easy smile as Des spoke about Aimee. “She really is. It’s funny, you’d never think how shy she really is when she’s dancing. She’s just totally herself when she’s up on stage. I’d like to say I’m a pretty good dancer myself, but probably nothing compared to either one of you. Hell, since they’re free, maybe I’ll come by and get a few pointers from you.”
“Oh, well that is good. Better than being the kind that bicker all the time. I had a small period of time where I wasn’t talking to Aimee, at no fault of hers really, and it was one of the hardest things for me. Oh right! You are a twin. I forgot although I don’t know how when you guys look a lot alike. That’s awesome though, especially that the two of you are so close. I agree too, I like it here as well. I guess sometimes you just can’t beat home.”
