In the back of a taxi he rubs his hands over his face and takes stock. He can feel the beginnings of a headache building at the base of his neck, his jaw aches from how tightly he's been squeezing himself together all day and every fibre of his being is suddenly crying out for a cuddle. The thought of not being touched or kissed in the next five minutes is making him anxious enough to text Phil his embarrassing thoughts.
----
At home his pyjamas are set out on the bed for him and there's a piece of cake from their favourite bakery waiting in the fridge.
He strips off quickly and stumbles into the lounge. He'll eat his cake later, right now he wants this.
He's allowed this. He's allowed to take Phil's laptop and put it on the floor and tuck himself around the body, the person he's wanted all day.
"Hello". Phil chuckles, his hands immediately beginning to smooth up and down Dan's back like he knows Dan loves, needs when he's tired like this.
"It was good. I did well I think".
Phil hums in his ear and kisses at his temple.
"I got you a piece of cake, did you see?".
Dan smiles "I did".
Phil tugs the blanket from its place on the back of the sofa and drapes it over Dan's shoulders, cocooning him in.
Dans jaw is still working on untensing itself and his neck aches and he's suddenly exhausted but his chest is warm and he's home and safe and Phil is rubbing his back again and he'll be good in the morning, if not the moment.
