♡ ABOUT:
The origin of its name is from Setimic ‘baraq (shine)’, comparable to Hebrew ‘bereqeth (emerald)’. Greeks started calling it ‘smaragdos (green gem)’, referring it to emerald or malachite. For the Medieval Latins, it's was 'esmeraldus', derived from the Old Latin 'smaragdus'. And finally, Europeans called it 'emeraude', derived from the Old French 'esmeraude'. The meaning of its name is “bright green precious stone”.
As the name says, it's a green stone which is a highly sought variety of beryl. It's colour is caused by trace amounts of a chromophore such as trivalent chromium or trivalent vanadium. It haves an hexagonal crystal system and is very mined in all the world.

♡ MYTHOLOGY:
Emeralds had a lot of meaning in various cultures related to true love and abundant wealth, since it's colour symbolise the beauty of nature, hope, renewal, and growth. It's also a stone of intuition and vision, it's said that it's used to foretell the future and instigate the real truths.
Ancient Romans and Greeks related the stone to the Love Goddess Afrodite/Venus, recognizing it as a conveyor of hope and love. Just like the Incas, Egyptians believed that emeralds were a source of eternal life, Cleopatra was very obsessed with them. Also, leaders just like Alexander, the Great and Aristotle carried this stone as a talisman due to its strong spiritual powers. In Indian astrology, ‘emerald’ comes from the Sanskrit term ‘Marakata’, that means ‘the green of growing things’, it was also called ‘Panna stone’.
It's said that emerald strengthens your connection to the divine energies by opening your heart and mind. This stone symbolises unconditional compassion, love, and acceptance in every form. To the Vedics, emerald was related to mercury.
Emerald is the birthstone of May. Its also a symbol of rebirth, granting the owner foresight, good fortune, and youth. This stone is highly related with Taurus, since it's related to love and kindness, although others say that it's related with Cancer.
