you left me no choice but to stay here forever
hi divassss it's been awhile!! i haven't written anything in quite some time but this has been on my mind so here! be nice and gentle i cranked it out in like two hours and i really didn't go over it so. yeah, hope you like!!
daya was nervous. she kept glancing at the door, laughing halfheartedly at one of camden’s jokes to try and act like she was listening and not thinking about when bosco would arrive. when camden was distracted by angeria, she pulled out her phone to check bosco’s location. she was there. daya pocketed her phone and tried to keep cool, though her eyes couldn’t keep off the door.
finally, it opened.
“knock, knock!” daya heard the familiar sweet voice ring through the apartment, a smile creeping up on her face.
“bosco, willow!” camden cheered, running over to meet the two by the door. angeria followed suit, but daya opted to stay back for a moment.
daya watched as they all greeted each other, watching bosco’s smile grow as she hugged her best friends. she watched as bosco finally met her eyes, both of their smiles becoming even wider. bosco walked away from the group, meeting daya in the kitchen. the taller woman couldn’t stop her eyes from raking up and down bosco’s form, throat going dry. she thought she’d be used to how bosco dressed, especially on nights where they’d go out, but she never did. she didn’t think she ever would.
“hi, daya,” bosco said softly, extending her arms out. daya wasted no time running into them, giving the blonde a squeeze. they pulled away much too quickly for daya’s liking, but bosco’s hands remained on her shoulders as she scanned her friend. “god, you look hot! i love your tights.”
dayas hands subconsciously ran over the fabric of her black tights that were mostly ripped, but looked good enough to still wear out. she suspected they’d be unusable by the time the night was over, though. “i look hot? bitch, take a look at yourself! holy fuck, you look good.”
bosco grinned and took her hands off of daya, waving her off. “oh, shut up. i’m glad you like it though, it only took four outfit changes for me to pick it.”
“like is an understatement.”
the smile that appeared on bosco’s face made daya giddy. she grinned even wider when bosco reached up and scrunched her shoulder. “so, how many shots have you guys had? i’m sure willow and i need to play catch up.”
the other three joined them, gathering around camden’s small island in the kitchen. camden grabbed two more shot glasses from the cabinet. “oh, we’ve been waiting on you two, darling! had we known you were going to take forever though, we would’ve started!”
“blame bosco!” willow shouted, pointing at the tall woman. “i was on time picking her up, she was the one who took forever trying to get out the damn door.”
“in my defense, getting jacob to let me go was even more difficult than usual,” bosco explained, her smile fading. “he’s been especially clingy this week and just… ugh, whatever! let’s do a damn shot!”
daya cheered with the other girls, though she kept her eyes on bosco, who seemed unsettled at the mention of her boyfriend, jacob. bosco and jacob had been together before her and daya even met, and while he seemed great for bosco in the beginning, things weren’t looking so great for the two. jacob was a decent guy, nice to all her friends and treated her decently enough, but daya knew deep down the two weren’t meant for each other.
but that was none of her business.
camden poured them all a shot and handed them out, holding hers up. “alright, here’s to a great night, to getting shitfaced, and to having fun!”
daya clinked her glass with everyone and downed the shot, grimacing at the taste of the room temperature vodka. she was sure she’d need a lot more liquor to get through the night, so she put her glass in the middle for camden to fill again.
saturday nights were always reserved for going out with her friends. every saturday night they’d all meet at camden’s to pregame and uber down to their favorite bar to drink and dance the night away. it was definitely daya’s favorite night of the week, but sometimes she couldn’t bare them, and it was all because of bosco.
daya had known bosco for two years, she considered the blonde her best friend. she liked to think they were the closest out of the friend group, just the way they clicked and got along was nothing like daya had experienced before. if daya was being honest though, the past year being friends with bosco was torture. she had no idea when she started having feelings for bosco, they came out of nowhere and had only gotten worse as time progressed. now bosco was all she thought about. she’d spend all her time with bosco if it was possible, would drop anything or go out of her way for the girl, and it was honestly a little pathetic on her part, but she couldn’t help it. bosco was so beautiful, so funny and snarky in the funniest way, kind and caring, and just… perfect. that was the best way daya could describe her.
daya definitely loved bosco. in what way specifically, she didn’t know. she just knew bosco had a piece of her heart and daya really, really wanted it back.
“you with us, betty?” bosco asked quietly, nudging the brunette.
“yeah, sorry,” daya nodded, giving bosco a small smile. “spaced out for a second.”
bosco giggled and grabbed daya’s hand. “angie got us the uber, it’s here. you got everything?”
daya felt warmth spread throughout her as she gripped bosco’s hand. “yeah, let’s get outta here.”
-
it was safe to say that daya was drunk.
the reason the girls loved going to the same bar every saturday night was because the bartender, kornbread, had a bit of a heavy pour when it came to making drinks. her drinks were always more liquor than mixer, but the girls never complained because they’d get drunker faster and cheaper.
daya was on the dance floor with camden and bosco, willow and angeria were god knows where, probably up at the bar with kornbread trying to get to make them a kornbread special, a drink daya had never tried and wasn’t sure if she really wanted to. she had been dancing all night, loving the attention bosco would give her during songs, not sure if she was drunk off of the alcohol or bosco’s touch.
the two were having a grand time dancing and singing to everytime we touch by cascada when camden got their attention.
“i’m gonna go make sure willow and angie are okay, you two stay here, alright?”
bosco gave her a thumbs up, going back to dancing with daya, putting her hands on her shoulders and moving them down her body. daya kept her hands on bosco’s waist, moving along with the blonde. when the song switched to one they didn’t know, daya let go of bosco, surprised that bosco hadn’t let go of her yet. bosco pulled her in for a tight hug, making daya giggle a bit. bosco was also definitely drunk.
“i’m so glad you’re here, daya,” bosco muttered, squeezing daya before letting her go, her hands taking their place again on the brunette’s shoulders. “i love being with you.”
“i love being with you too,” daya answered immediately, squeezing bosco’s waist. “are you having a good time?”
“the best time. i always do with you. you’re the best,” bosco grinned, leaning in to kiss daya’s cheek. “you know, i’ve never had someone like you before.”
daya’s heart was racing, but she couldn’t help the grin on her face. “what do you mean?”
“just… i think you’re so great and so kind. and you’re my best friend in the entire world and i love you,” bosco rambled, moving to kiss daya’s cheek again. “i’m sorry, you’re too cute not to kiss.”
“i’ll never refuse a kiss from you, sco.” the words left daya’s mouth before she could even think about it. they were true, but she felt the tips of her ears heat up once she realized what she said.
bosco grinned and hugged daya tightly again. “you’re so cute. i love you. you’re so much better than jacob, you know. i always feel so safe with you and… i just want to be with you. i’d rather lose jacob than lose you, daya, you know that?”
the taller woman froze. she had never heard those words come out of bosco’s mouth, and bosco had said a lot of drunken things about daya before, but that had never been one of them. she swallowed hard, smiling to make sure bosco knew nothing was wrong. “i’m glad you feel safe around me, baby, i’d want you to feel that way.”
“i do, i feel… a lot of things with you,” bosco mumbled, finally pulling away from her. “you’re so… fuck, daya.”
before daya could question bosco, the blonde put her hands on either side of daya’s neck and pulled her in for a kiss. the two of them kissing wasn’t anything new, they had their share of quick drunken kisses before, but this was much different. daya kissed her back expecting it to be over just as soon as it started, but bosco kept her in place and deepened the kiss. they were both so drunk, and daya knew they should stop, but with the way bosco was clinging onto her and the way she groaned lightly into the kiss, she chose to be selfish. she wrapped her arms around bosco’s waist and pulled her flush against her, finally matching her energy and kissed her hard.
it felt so good. it was even better than what daya thought it’d be like to kiss bosco, to hold her so close. it made almost made it all worth it; not being able to sleep because bosco was on her mind, staying up until five in the morning with bosco because she wanted to keep talking to her, having the blonde woman on her mind every day, going out of her way for bosco, all of it seemed worth it.
but there was one voice in the back of daya’s head that knew it wasn’t. that the kiss would just be that, a kiss. a very drunken kiss in some bar at one in the morning. that was all it would ever be to everyone but daya.
their spell was broken by someone knocking into them, a slurred apology coming from the stranger as they wove through the crowd of people. the two broke their kiss, but kept each other close.
“fuck, i’m sorry,” bosco said, breathing heavily. “i didn’t even ask if-“
“don’t apologize,” daya shook her head, a permanent smile on her face. “that was… like i said before, i’ll never say no to a kiss from you.”
bosco giggled and pecked daya on the lips again. “you’re a good kisser, you know. way better than jacob.”
daya’s smile faltered a bit at the mention of bosco’s boyfriend. she had to move past it. “you’re a good kisser too.”
“i really don’t know if i wanna be with him, you know,” bosco admitted as she began to sway them, almost slow dancing to a song that was much too upbeat for their movements. “he’s… he’s nice and we’ve been together for so long but then there’s you.”
“me?”
“you. you… you’re so nice and thoughtful, daya. you’re the best person anyone could ask for. i don’t know how you’re single, but at the same time i’m happy you are.”
daya frowned. “what do you mean?”
“i hate seeing you flirt with other girls. i hate the idea of you treating girls the way you treat me. i like having you to myself. maybe that’s awful of me, but-“
“bosco, stop,” daya shook her head, taking a small step back. she couldn’t hear this right now, this wasn’t how she wanted any of it to happen. she was started to hear the slur in bosco’s voice, the liquor coming off her breath. she didn’t even know if bosco knew what she was doing right now. “you’re drunk. you don’t… i don’t want to hear things that aren’t true.”
bosco frowned, moving her hand to tuck a stray piece of hair behind daya’s ear. “but it is true, baby. i’ve always-“
“hello, gay people!” angeria’s voice boomed into their conversation. the two instinctively backed away from each other, almost like they were caught doing something they shouldn’t have been. “i think everyone’s ready to get out of here, you two coming?”
“yeah,” daya answered for both of them. she needed out of there. “let’s go.”
she grabbed bosco’s hand out of habit, always wanting to keep one hand on her when they were trying to maneuver their way through a big crowd. just as they were out of the big group, bosco tugged on daya’s hand.
“please talk to me about this tomorrow, okay?” bosco pleaded, holding onto daya’s hand tightly. “i want to talk about this more. okay?”
daya nodded and followed angeria out of the club, meeting willow and camden on the curb.
“there you are!” camden called out, clapping her hands in excitement. “the uber will be here in two minutes. no one needs to throw up before we get in, right? i do not want to have an angie situation again.”
“that was one time and i paid the goddamn price for it!” angie yelled defensively. “and the uber was so nice about it! i nearly broke my bank account trying to make up for it!”
willow cackled, moving to rub angie’s back. “i know that was probably super embarrassing for you but it was so funny for us.” angeria went to rebuttal, but willow’s phone flashed. “oh, the uber’s arriving! come on, i’m ready to go to bed.”
everyone followed willow into the uber, daya, bosco, and camden sitting in the very back of a van, bosco squished between daya and camden. daya couldn’t even focus on anything that was happening on the way home, her mind replaying the events that just happened. she didn’t know whether or not to believe bosco’s words, she was drunk. so drunk. how could she trust anything bosco had to say? she wasn’t ever sure if the drunk words are sober thoughts was actually true, but god, she wanted it to be so bad.
she’d just have to wait until tomorrow, when bosco was sober. they’d talk about it then, and she’d let it go for now.
though that was proving to be very difficult as bosco cuddled into her side, hand still linked to hers tightly.
daya was so fucking screwed.
—
daya didn’t really sleep that night. she tossed and turned, her mind filled with bosco. how was she even meant to bring up what happened last night? was there a way to be casual about bringing up the proclamations bosco made to her? not to mention the kiss that was so far from their normal, platonic kisses. it was too much. there was no way she could talk to bosco about it, but she wanted to so badly, because what if bosco remembered? what if she woke up and planned to stand by her words, tell daya that she didn’t want to be with jacob and she did want daya all to herself? what if she didn’t regret the kiss and wanted to do it again?
even thinking that was possible made daya ashamed of herself.
she was the first one up that morning, deciding to stop attempting to get any sleep and went to camden’s kitchen to start brewing some coffee for everyone. it was only eight in the morning, and though they all had a late night, she knew her friends would be up soon enough. she enjoyed the quiet as she waited for the coffee to brew. it was the first time in hours she could get a little peace of mind.
fate had never been on her side much though.
“hey, betty.”
daya snapped her head up and saw bosco entering the kitchen from the guest bedroom, shutting the door behind her. fuck, could daya have one minute without bosco in her brain?
“hey, sco. sleep well?”
“like a rock,” bosco chuckled, her voice hoarse from just having woken up. it made daya shiver. “are you brewing coffee?”
“yeah,” daya nodded, leaned up against the counter. bosco joined her and the two sat in silence. daya didn’t know how to bring it up. “how are you feeling?”
bosco groaned a bit, wiping the sleep from her eyes. “not horrible, definitely have a raging headache though. how about you?”
“i feel fine,” daya shrugged, looking down at her feet. she needed to bring it up. “so, ah, did you wanna talk about it?”
“talk about what?”
daya’s head shot up to look at bosco. the confusion written all over her face made daya’s stomach drop. maybe bosco just needed a refresher. “we… um….we had a conversation you wanted me to bring up today.”
bosco frowned, her eyebrows furrowing. she hummed in thought. “i don’t… oh, fuck, is it about you watching the cats for me while jacob and i go to seattle next week?”
the taller woman almost scoffed. she couldn’t believe bosco didn’t remember. she knew bosco was drunk but she didn’t think she was that drunk. “you really don’t remember what happened before we left the bar last night?”
“no, i don’t even remember getting here, to be honest,” bosco admitted, and it made daya sick to see that she was being honest. bosco could sense something was wrong. “what did i say last night, baby?”
“don’t…” daya trailed off, rubbing her face in frustration. god, she was so fucking stupid. how could she ever believe bosco would want her like that? that the moment they had would mean enough to bosco to even remember it? “i gotta get home.”
bosco was so confused. she watched as daya stood up straight and began walking back toward the guest bedroom, but she caught her arm to stop her. “daya, wait, i don’t understand what’s going on, what happened?”
daya sighed and ran a hand through her hair. she couldn’t tell bosco what happened, she’d just look stupid and be let down. she couldn’t go through that rejection, not by her favorite person in the entire world. “it- i- it was nothing. i was just really drunk last night and i think my brain got some things twisted. i just…i just wanna go home.”
“what about coffee and donuts with the girls?”
“i’m gonna skip out on it this time,” daya mumbled, freeing herself from bosco to go into the bedroom to gather her things, making herself presentable enough to walk to her car. bosco didn’t follow her, and daya was grateful, because she was on the verge of tears, trying not to completely unravel. she grabbed her purse and overnight bag, walking back out to the kitchen.
bosco offered her a small to-go cup of coffee, using one of the disposable cups camden had for moments like these. “are you sure you wanna go? the girls are gonna miss you,” she mumbled, then stood up straighter. “i’m gonna miss you.”
daya winced at the words. she definitely needed to leave. “yeah, i just… i’m not feeling well and just want my bed, you know?”
“i get that, yeah,” bosco nodded and walked over to the brunette, extending her arms like she did almost twelve hours ago. “drive safe, okay? text me when you’re home and please call me if you wanna talk about anything.”
the taller woman accepted the hug, making it quick as she pulled back and gave bosco a tight smile. “i will. love you, sco.”
“love you too, baby.”
daya turned and left the apartment, her heart heavy. she got to her car, threw her stuff into the backseat and collapsed into the driver’s seat. she couldn’t even start the car before the tears came flowing down her face, turning into sobs very quickly.
she couldn’t believe she let herself hope that bosco would feel the same way. she was so, so fucking stupid. all she wanted was for it to be her, just this one time.
it would never be her. it made daya sick to think about, and what made it even worse was that she knew she’d do it all over again. she’d always be right there for bosco, even if it would never be her.
