unfriended

The movie unfriended was a unique movie there was no acting in front of a physical camera man but instead in front of a web camera. The movie was based on a group of friends that were in a Skype chat, a random person joined the group chat. They did not notice right away but when they did, they quickly asked each other if they knew who the parson was, when everyone said that they didn’t know who it was, right away they kicked the person out of the chat. A few minutes had passed when suddenly, the same person had joined, they quickly tried to kick the person out but were unsuccessful to do so. One of the friends asked the random person who it was but got no answer back. They also checked what was the name of the person and realized it was one of their friends account who had committed suicide, they thought that some one had hacked into their friends account and asked the person why he would hack into their friends account. No answer was given again, and the group of friends were starting to get frustrated. One thought that it was another from the group trying to pull a prank to scare them into thinking that their friend was still alive. But they soon realized that it was no prank and was more than just a prank it was something much scarier.  

The way that this movie was filmed was to make the audience feel like they are part of the Skype call. The movie starts of in a Skype call and ends in a Skype call, the setting of the movie did not change and is not seen to like that in other movies. The features that the movie had an affect by how I saw the movie, it was sound effect that it had that made it stand out more. Also it did not have as many soundtracks that most of the movies have in the scenes, in the movies to get the suspense up their will be a second of silence and then something would happen. Not many movies have a second of silence for suspense there is most of the time a music in the back ground to raise the suspense.

Based on how the movie was presented, there was no hindering from my observations, it was known what was happening in the movie without making me think twice. On the other side it was enhanced in my perspective I was able to understand what was happening in the scene. The movie unfriended was made to somehow spread awareness about cyber bulling and what someone can do to another person’s life and future. This movie showed how a young girl was bullied after a video of her getting drunk and passing out went viral in the internet. She was made fun of and massages sent to all her social media about the video, all the acts other people made pushed her to killing herself. After a year of her death she came for revenge and killed all the people that were part of the Skype group chat.

movie soundtracks

Lone survivor was a very good move that told a story about how a group of navy seals had mission go wrong. The soundtracks that they used fit the vibe of the movie, it had some inspirational music in the background and some made you want to cry tears. There was one specific part of the movie where the soundtrack was used perfectly for the scene and it was at the end of the movie. At the end of the movie they added the pictures of the fallen men that where part of a navy seals group that were part of a mission called “Operation Red Wings” in the scene they also added a soundtrack called “Heroes” by People Gabriel. It made the ending very sad and emotional because it was to remember all the men that lost their life fighting for our country and to us, they are heroes to our country.

The beginning of the movie also was somewhat emotional but also a motivational song. It started off calm where the soldiers started their journey to becoming part of the Navy Seals. While the music would start pick up a pace and the sound getting a little louder a group of them could not handle the stress, they were putting on their bodies some had to quit. But by the end of the intro of the movie the music had gotten louder, and more sounds of drums could be heard to add some type of motivation while the scene shows a class of Navy Seals graduating from their training school. This shaped the mood of the movie by expressing that it was not easy to become part a Navy Seals, some failed, some couldn’t handle it, and the rest had to work hard to reach their goal. Overall the beginning scenes and the sound track set an emotion of joy and acceptance while still having a motivation.

The argument that they try to make is that they try to make the audience feel the emotion that is put into a specific scene. They will put a suspenseful soundtrack to make the audience feel hyped for example, in the scene where the soldiers got into a gun fight with the enemy, they added music that made the audience feel suspense to make them feel how will win the fight. The soundtracks that they used in the scenes made convincing to the audience to feel an emotion. Another way they try to make an argument is by using sound effects to make the audience feel like they are part of the scene. In the scene where they were in the gun fight you can hear the bullets like if they were going past you ear. A soundtrack is very important when making a movie, it is like a topping on a pizza, it makes the movie better and it makes it more interesting. When movies don’t have or the soundtracks don’t go with the theme of the movies it can make the movie boring or it doesn’t get the attention of the audience.

movie trailer 2

The movie trailer that I saw and really had me wanting to see it in the theater is lone survivor. The trailer starts off with an inspirational speech of not to back down in any situation that you think you can’t do and that there is nothing he can’t do “no sky to high no sea to low”. When saying the speech, it is a voice over and in the back ground there are some scenes from the movie. Next, they start in a conference room on a military base talking about their next mission and who they are after and the bad things that the target has done to a group of marines. The rhetorical device that the trailer uses is pathos because it based on a true story and is trying to make the audience feel how it will be if the audience was in that situation. It also tries to convince the audience to watch the movie by adding scenes that have action and that are somewhat emotional. It also adds that its based on a true story of what a soldier had to go through when a mission where the target had to get eliminated had gone horribly wrong when a group of civilians came across the soldier’s location.

The genre that I was able to determine was action, drama and thriller. The reason being is because of the scenes the trailer provided, in some scenes it shows the moments where the soldiers are trapped and surrounded by the enemy group. Just like in the beginning they tie down the speech from the beginning to the part where they did not give up eve though they knew they lost the fight. In some of the scenes there was actors that were recognizable from other previous movies that were categorized in the same area of genre. The actors name is Mark Wahlberg he has been part of other successful movie for example; deep water horizon, patriot day which are also based on a true story movie. Just like on the rest of the movie trailer the actor has been in their as a lot of action scenes that persuades and tries to encourage the audience to watch the movie and find out what happens in the rest of the movies. And, because they are based on a true story it makes you want to find out what really happened that day, for example patriot day was based on the event that happened in race in Boston. When the trailer gets to the middle there is music plating in the background while there are some scenes being played in the background. By the end of the trailer there is another little speech that goes with the action scenes that are being played in the back ground and at the last cut it shows the group of navy seals and it shows the name of the movie.

Overall the movie trailer had a good balance of action emotional parts and a soundtrack in the background of the trailer. The way that it was set up was they got the most important scenes of the movie to try to convince the audience to go and watch the movie. There was really nothing else to put in the movie trailer that would have changed the decision I made to go and look at the movie, it was really well built not like other movie trailers out there.

southpaw

The movie southpaw is one of my favorite movies out their. the reason being is because it has mixed emotion, it has action that gets your heart pumping and it also has some sad emotional scenes. The movie southpaw has a rhetorical device of ethos, because in the movie trailer it only shows the good parts of the movie to convince the audience in going to see the movie.  it worked because  when i saw the release date for the movie i made plans for that day to go and see the movie. The trailer did have some action scenes and that was also one of the reasons why i decided to go and watch this movie. i was able to determine the genre of the movie based on the scenes that the trailer had included, i was able to determine that it was going to have action and drama. When i saw the movie trailer i recognized some of the actors from previous movies in the past. The three actors that i recognize are very known in other movies that have action, drama/thriller, and crime. 

When i finished seeing the movie trailer i felt like becoming a boxer because of the action and thrilling moments that i saw it had my blood pumping when the action would come. it made me feel sad in some moments and then the next scene it would make me get goosebumps run down my back when he recovers from all the bad stuff that happened to him. also the trailer had some suspense on some scenes that made you want to look at the movie and figure out what was going to happen next and how it was going to end. it shows us some scenes from the beginning, a little more scenes from the middle, and lastly the ending where their was more suspense, drama and trilling action. Overall the trailer did a good job in convincing me to see the movie in the theater, it did not have a lot of scenes where all they do is talk like some other movies.
