Entwined Souls
«Ah.. I think I'm really gonna meet the end here..!» The sorcerer thought as he, with the remaining bit of strength in his body, fought back the knight who was getting the upper hand. «I barely have any mana left, my spells are dying down, I can't keep on fighting back!» Rui's body was about to fall apart, he was wounded and bleeding, his hands were bruised because of some more powerful spells he cast. He has to think of something, and he has to be quick!
Meanwhile, the knight was fighting with all of his strength, however signs of weariness were clear on his face. Both were panting from exhaustion but Rui was worse off.
«Maybe if I gather my remaining mana I can cast that spell... It's this or die here.» After that thought, Rui jolted far away from the knight, clasped his hands together and a transparent violet light orb started surrounding him. The knight prepared for the attack, shielding himself with his sword, but unexpectedly the same orb started to surround him as well. «Huh?! What's this?» The knight exclaimed, confused and alert.
The sorcerer smirked «Fufu... After this, knight, our lives will change, forever.» A blinding light appeared, the two couldn't see for a moment. After Tsukasa's eyes recovered, he found the sorcerer sitting on the ground, with a hand between his hair. Taking the chance, the knight charged at him. The sorcerer noticed and tried to move but the sword already pierced his stomach, making him let out a yelp.
Suddenly... «AGH!» The knight screamed from the pain and placed one hand on his stomach, the other still holding the hilt of his sword. That's when he heard the sorcerer huff out a laugh.
Tsukasa immediately guessed it: could it be that the sorcerer's spell caused this pain? «Rui! What have you done to me?!»
«Ah, what have I done to you? More like to us...» He answered, still winching from the pain. «What do you mean?» Rui chuckled «Our souls and hearts have now become one. It's simple: if I die, you die.»
Tsukasa's eyes widened, he immediately took out the sword from the wound and felt that piercing pain once again. Both him and the man in front of him slightly winched in pain. «Are you crazy?! Using a prohibited spell as if it was something regular!» Bonding souls was indeed something prohibited. Spells are divided into authorized and prohibited ones. This one was prohibited because it erases two souls to create one, and that causes an imbalance in the spiritual world, since there are two living bodies yet there's only one soul.
This spell is only possible if the two parties are a human and a magician, sorcerer or witch and it's very rarely used because: which kind of magic user would want to bond his soul with a mere mortal?
Yet, as we can see here, it can happen sometimes... «Rui, you know that this makes your life as short as mine?»
«I'm very aware.», «You did this just to save yourself from being killed a few moments ago, but now your life is completely in my hands.» Rui's eyebrows furrowed softly and a twisted grin slowly appeared on his lips. «I know. But doesn't that just make everything more thrilling, Tsukasa?»
