Today was really stressful. I had to do a bunch of homework and other stuff because I didn’t get it done during the week. I’m really excited for my new set book for english lessons. I’ve wanted to read it for a long time now. Let’s see how I’ll like it!
1. Have a Positive Mental Attitude- Prime yourself at being always comfortable and confident that u can do a lot better at studying. Remember that you are studying things that will prove to be valuable in real life. 2. Prepare your Work Space- Look for a place in your home or bedroom where u think u can study and maintain concentration in your work. Have materials stocked up and in place before your study. This way, u can finish your work without any interruptions. 3. Avoid Cramming- study an hour a day even when there’s no homework. Scan your notebooks and do a little advanced reading of your textbooks. You can also research through the internet to learn more about the topics u are covering in school. I suggest google scholar, it’s like google but for students, it has the citations, and filters results so that only helpful outcomes appear. 4. Do projects with more enthusiasm and creativity- Don’t be afraid to think of new ideas or ways to present your homework or projects. Teachers always give additional points to students who show great effort in their works. SO, don’t be afraid to do something original, do something that hasn’t been done before. 5. Raise Your Hand- Be active and establish a friendly attitude towards your teachers. Offer to help them out in checking some work, filing papers or just carrying their things. Little good things add up in the end for that extra effort grade, and they’ll always remember you as a very helpful student. 6. Enjoy Reading the Latest News- Find connections or associations with your life as a student, as a child, as a friend, or as a citizen. Certain reports would always ask for u to react so better be ahead with current events which you may be affected with. 7. Listen to Your Teacher, take a few notes- In my experience, the more i copy and take down notes, the more i get lost in the lecture. It is best to listen first and understand before u jot down any important keywords. Yes, use keywords, simple doodles and arrows to make associations. These will help u remember all concepts mentally. 8. Keep Notes on Index Cards- I use personally use the smaller oxford ones, they are more portable honestly pretty aesthetic.. 9. Watch TV Wisely- Yep you heard it, TV, when watching TV I sometimes pick up points which may seem relevant in my life. They sometimes even have something to do with what’s happening in class at the moment so, always initiate conversation about the latest shows and issues you have watched. Don’t be afraid to argue and defend your opinions.
Hey babes! August is here, which means that the first day of class isn’t far for a lot of us! The first day is exciting, but it can also be pretty scary. Here’s your guide to tackling the first day with grace, and setting yourself up for your best year yet!
be prepared
Having the best first day means putting in some work beforehand! This way you can wake up the day-of and have a relaxing morning, instead of rushing around trying to find your textbooks.
Save your class schedule to your phone
I like to add each class (including details like the room #) as an individual reminder in my iPhone. That way all you have to do is swipe right on the lock screen and everything you need to know is there! If you have another type of phone, setting a picture of your schedule as your home screen works as well.
Prepare your supplies
Make sure you have everything you’ll need for the first day, and pack your backpack completely the night before.
Think of some ice breaker answers
I don’t know about you, but for me the worst part of the first day is sharing “a fun fact about yourself” or “one word that describes you” in every class. Save yourself some stress and think of those now!
Pick out your outfit
First impressions are important, so show up on your first day feeling confident about how you look! Make sure everything is ironed and laid out the night before so all you have to do is put it on!
Pack a lunch and prep breakfast
Make sure you have a healthy lunch packed and ready to go before you go to bed the night before, and go ahead and get a head start on breakfast too. Lay out the ingredients on the counter so all you have to do is fire the waffle iron up and go.
Get a good night’s sleep
Go to bed a little earlier than you normally would. Nerves about the first day mean that you may not get to sleep as fast, and you’ll probably be waking up earlier than you’re used to anyway.
the first day!
Wake up early
If you wake up a little earlier than you need to you can start your day relaxed, and that sets the tone for the whole day! Take your time getting ready & eating breakfast, and avoid using your phone (or you’ll totally find yourself on Twitter instead of getting dressed)
Get to school early
It usually takes me a little while to get my bearings on the first day of class, especially if my first class is in a new building. Show up early so you have time to scope out the halls and find your way.
Bring a planner
You’ll be getting a lot of dates thrown at you the first day, so be sure to bring your planner to write it all down!
Introduce yourself
Before class, say hello to the person you’re sitting next to and get to know them a little! After class be sure to introduce yourself to your teacher (or say hello if you’ve had them before). It’ll leave a good impression and may help you out with your participation grade!
Relax!
First days can be scary, but they can also be fun! Try to relax and enjoy it and know that you’ll have the best year ever!
hello class of 2018!! i thought id make a senior year guide since i just graduated, and wish i knew some things before i started!
COLLEGE APPS:
honestly the worst part of senior year was college apps. it made the first half of the year so stressful!! i recommend getting on it STAT if thats the path youre taking after high school!
know where youre applying!!
i only applied to 4 schools because i had no idea where to look. i’m the first in my family to go to college so boy, was it scary! start your research now, i have serious regrets about not applying to some schools. (im in love with stonehill now but wish i broadened my horizons!)
i recommend making some sort of spreadsheet so you can keep track! pick some safety schools (1-2), schools you’re most likely to get in (3-4) and dream schools (1-2).
know the requirements!!!!!!!! omg!
okay so i MESSED UP senior year. in order to apply to ivy league schools i needed to take sat subject tests. call me dumb but remember no one else in my family went through this lol. i couldn’t apply to brown because of this and it made me very upset. so, look up every aspect of each college’s application. sure its all on the common app but theres still different requirements!
same goes for financial aid, private colleges need the css profile, which was hard for me since i had to fill out a NCP, a non custodial parent profile. i have no contact with that parent, meaning i had to fill out waivers for each private school i applied to (only 2, but it was still difficult!) make sure you know this now before youre scrambling to fill out different forms, not just the NCP, but different things that might come up.
early decision?
personally i didn’t do early decision cause financial stuff made it confusing, but if you’re applying to ivy league schools or anything really high up there and want a better chance, go for it! but…
early decision is BINDING. remember this!
early action is NOT BINDING.
i had a close friend apply early decision to brown and got accepted! but i had another friend who applied to brown regular decision and thought she wouldn’t get in cause he did, but she ended up getting in! (she also got into harvard and MIT, and then had a choice of choosing MIT). just keep this in mind!
financial aid:
i recommend applying as early as possible. to have that burden gone helped me a lot while I was applying to schools and scholarships. financial aid can be tough, and i heard they’re making the FAFSA harder to fill out. do this in the early fall, you’ll thank me later.
the essay!
the essay was difficult for me and im an english major. choosing what to write about is nerve wracking! my advice is to find something that won’t show up on any other part of your application. make it unique to you - it doesn’t even have to be about how great you are. look at yourself from a friend’s perspective, what makes you awesome or unique? what do you value?
my essay was about empathy, and having a younger sibling with a disability. at first i thought it was too pitiful, but always connect it back to how youre a better person cause of x/y. make it as memorable as possible. the admissions officer who accepted me to stonehill actually wrote me about my essay, and quoted a line from it. MAKE IT MEMORABLE AND UNIQUE TO YOU. look up some cliches and avoid them.
the rest will be under the cut since its longer than i thought lol

With the new semester starting up soon, I was getting a lot of requests to release 2018 versions of my printable calendars! Like my 2017 versions, there are three design options, different colours (blue, green, grey, purple, peach, pink), and the option of a Monday or Sunday start date.
For ease, I’ve created entire Google Drive folders for each design (version one being the top, two being the middle, and three the bottom), then separated by their starting day. You can then chose your preferred colour and print! The files are in PDF form and feature all 12 months of the year in the single download. Click the links below to pick your calendar!

I hope you enjoy using these and if so, I’d love to see them in action! Feel free to tag me on Tumblr with #emmastudies or on Instagram with my username @emmastudiess in any photos you upload. If there are any problems or errors, please let me know via my inbox.
